Fixed Star Algol

Perseus Constellation [Stellarium]

The Sun joins Algol on May 16

Fixed star Algol, Beta Persei, is a 2.1 magnitude, rare triple star and eclipsing binary located in the Medusa’s Head, carried in the Hero’s left Hand, Perseus Constellation. The name Algol comes from the Arabic word رئيس الغول, meaning Head of the Ogre. The English translation became Demon Star, with other names being Satan’s Head and the Spectre’s Head. In Chinese, it belongs to a group of stars called the Mausoleum. Algol appears to blink, as shown in the animation below. Every 69 hours, its magnitude dips for about 10 hours before returning to full brightness again.

Algol Star [en.wikipedia.org]

Algol represents the head of the Gorgon Medusa, who was slain by Perseus. Medusa, who was the only mortal one of the three Gorgon sisters, was originally a beautiful maiden, but her hair was changed into hissing serpents by Minerva in consequence of her having become by Neptune, the mother of Chrysaor and Pegasus in one of Minerva’s temples. This gave her so fearful an appearance that everyone who looked at her was changed into stone. [3]

Fixed Star Algol Astrology

In astrology, Algol is one of the most unfortunate stars. Ptolemy referred to it as “the Gorgon of Perseus” and associated it with death by decapitation: mirroring the myth of the Hero Perseus’ victory over the snake-headed Gorgon Medusa. Historically, it has received a strong association with violence across a wide variety of cultures. Medieval Arabic commanders tried to ensure that no important battle began whilst the light of Algol was weak. It may be connected to the periodic lucky prognosis in an ancient Egyptian calendar for lucky and unlucky days composed about 3200 years ago. The 17th-century English astrologer William Lilly regarded any planet to be afflicted when within five degrees of conjunction. [1]

Astrologers, of course, said that it was the most unfortunate, violent, and dangerous star in the heavens, and it certainly has been one of the best observed as the most noteworthy variable in the northern sky. [2]

Fixed star Algol is of the nature of Saturn and Jupiter (dignified, pious, conservative, acquisitive, retentive.) It causes misfortune, violence, decapitation, hanging, electrocution and mob violence, and gives a dogged and violent nature that causes death to the native or others. It is the most evil star in the heavens. [3]

β Persei is an eclipsing variable star system comprising two components ranging between 2.2 & 3.5 in a period of 2.87 days; the eclipse lasts 10 hours. The spectral type of the main star is B8, with a temperature of 12,500 degrees Kelvin. The eclipsing star is dark, and no color has been assigned to it. Algol, anciently thought to be the demon star, has two well-defined natures. One is high in spiritual values, and the other is on the primitive side, evidenced by extreme misfortune.

The darker side of Algol is similar to a spectral ‘S’ star, while the brighter star is of the spectral B, indicating helium is prominent and can be related to influences of the spectral class stars, W, 0, and B. The darker star circles the brighter star every 68 hours, presenting a periodic change in brightness as viewed from the Earth. Since an ephemeris is not possible or available, the influences are listed as either positive or negative, with the darker side for the negative influences and the brighter side for the positive influences.

Some nativities can have both negative and positive influences. The brighter side, as of spectral classes W, 0. & B. The native is sober, serious, patient, talkative, and has high preferment, honors, and success in their careers. Native dislikes sordid actions, is faithful, not bigoted. The darker side as of spectral class ‘S’: The native is bigoted, violent or nonviolent, deals with the masses, possibly tends to be secretive, subject to violence, either to or by the native, forced changes, a propagandist, one with extreme mental powers, extreme physical powers, for good or bad. Mass vandalism, fanaticism, tragedies, ruthlessness. [13]

Algol symbol (Agripe 1531).svg  Algol is one of the 15 Behenian Fixed Stars. Its image is a human head cut off at the neck. It gives success to petitions, makes the wearer bold and magnanimous, preserves the body, protects against witchcraft, and turns evil and spells back upon those who work them. Rules diamond, black hellebore, and mugwort. [3]

Algol is the Head of Gorgo Medusa. This name is derived from the Arabic Al Ghoul, meaning “demon,” “evil spirit,” or “devil.” Derived from the same root as “alcohol.” The dark one has the property of pure Saturn character; the lighter one corresponds not only to Saturnian influence but also to Mars-Uranus-Pluto nature. If the dark fellow is showing toward Earth’s path, the destructive invisible action is exercised. These will be the hours in which Algol is least bright. In the olden times, people were well aware of this. Dr, Lomer wrote in Kosmobiologie, August 1950: “Arabic commanders-in-chief, in times of conquest, made it a point that no important battles were begun when the light of Algol was weak.”

Despite the appreciable distance from the ecliptic, this double star’s influence is strongly felt, and in more cases, it is disastrous. Primitive natives will be of the base mind inclined to brutality and violence, especially when Algol is found together with Mars or Saturn. Avoiding accidents and severe injuries is difficult if Algol is conjunction Sun, Moon or the malefics. As everything has two sides, it has to be said that “high spiritual rays” are emanating from Algol also, but only those human beings can receive them who have already reached high spiritual development. Even then, it must be noted that those particular persons will have difficulties and obstacles in their way, and they must use much energy to overcome these handicaps. If their endeavors fail, strong counter forces and enmities will be present. [4]

Fixed star Algol has the nature of Jupiter, but it also has a long tradition as a troublemaker. It is said to be one of the most unfortunate, violent, and dangerous stars in the heavens. This is explained by the fact that Jupiter takes on all of its most perverse meanings: too much heat, as it were, resulting in extremist actions that undo all the beneficial qualities of this planet. [5]

Algol, alias Caput Medusa, is the Demon herself. Indeed she is, without doubt, counted the most malefic of all stars in astrology, even though Ptolemy gives her the less obviously ominous Saturn-Jupiter styling. Medusa’s Head, the meaning of the Latin title, is being held in Perseus’s Hand, which is she is star β in his constellation.

What seems to have been missed by the old school is that Capulus and Algol each have a very positive side to them. The sword removed a monstrosity from our world, and the monstrosity’s head did, in turn, rescue Andromeda – and, by the same token, all of us – from yet another monster of great evil. True that Algol comes from an old Arabic word meaning particularly nasty spirit. However, as we have noted, we all too easily look back and within ourselves only to be halted at our traumas and ‘nasty bits,’ failing to penetrate further to the glory beyond them. Lilith is not Medusa at all, not the ugly blockage in us but the beauty beyond it. Once we pass the ‘ghoul’ in Algol, we find the pure Spirit in that word, just as its modern derivative, Alcohol, which does so much damage if used irresponsibly, is also the background material of the Universe, without which nothing else exists at all.

How Capulus, and more especially Algol star, signify on horoscopes depends entirely on how the person concerned does or does not live life with an honest sense of purpose to it, a desire at least to try to live up to some philosophy, religion or ideal. If that is present in the person, question, or event for which the chart is drawn, then all will go well. The author has seen this happen so often once the superstition about these stars is dropped. If purpose and intent are ‘shady,’ then we don’t need stars to tell us that things are likely, with good reason, to go wrong.

Yes, we know that Algol often does show up in disastrous accidents with death as their climax, but we must remember that our too-common state of disbelief in life beyond the one event since birth that is the lot of all of us. We fear because we do not believe, and we fear to overcome our fear, lest to be fearless of death should somehow cause us to love mortal life the less. We fear to let go of the past because we lack faith in the Hand that holds the future. With Algol poorly aspected in our charts, we may well repeat the popular but obscene: ‘Better the devil you know that the devil you don’t,’ but those with the Star of the Spirit better placed, we find the person who knows better than to slander the Hand as a devil. Many a fine counselor and healer has Algol thus placed.

Alcyone, η Tauri, and the whole Pleiades group are noted in astrology for their association with deep sorrows and tragedies, bereavements showing strongly with this star. Its position by longitude soon after Algol in Perseus may account for the gloomy quality since Algol is much connotative with a violent death in mundane astrology, and that, of course, means bereavement for someone else. As a practicing astrological consultant, however, the present author has found that one or both of these stars prominent, even though ‘afflicted,’ on one’s horoscope makes for an excellent counselor to others in the time of bereavement, with a special gift for bringing out the brighter spiritual significance of Death as the transition to Greater Life and this so very often relieves the counselor him or herself from the misery that others so commonly suffer in that area of life. [6]

Fixed star Algol star rules one-quarter inch up the base of the neck in the human body. [7]

I have found that a strong Algol placement in the natal chart corresponds to very distinctive facial features and hair. There may be a striking beard or glorious long hair. The teeth, nose or ears may also be striking in some way, either extremely beautiful, large or deformed.

Constellation Perseus

Perseus Constellation gives an intelligent, strong, bold and adventurous nature, but a tendency to lying. [3] The constellation indicates events affecting large numbers of people, especially those caused by major meteorological phenomena. [5]

Violent death or extreme sickness. If also in no aspect to a benefic, or there is no benefic in the 8th house, and the dispositor of the Sun in a day nativity or if the Moon in the night one is in square or opposition to Mars, the native will be beheaded; if the luminary culminate he will be maimed, mangled, wounded or torn to pieces alive; and if Mars is at the same time in Gemini or Pisces his hands or feet will be cut off. Very difficult to avoid accidents and severe injuries. [4]

A splendid and illustrious life; great, distinguished and opulent nature. [12]

(+) Natives with this conjunction, can develop the ability to gain victory over their competitors. However, they can also experience setbacks prior to their victory. The natives will be dogged, indefatigable, continually striving to reach their goals, and never at a loss for words or expressions. Illness of a sublime nature possible.

Moon conjunct Ascendant or Midheaven with Algol: The natives have a virtuous disposition and respect their elders, have noble feelings, are generous, tolerant, sensible, and love their loved ones. [12]

Moon conjunct Venus conjunct Algol opposite Neptune: This energy point causes a multitude of problems connected with the neck. These people cannot look down to see their feet, and when under stress, they cannot bend the neck forward or in any direction. Their energy is blocked up to the pituitary gland, thus interfering with spiritual development. A great deal of the problem here is the lack of spiritual development, as these individuals wish to remain fixed on the mundane and material areas of their life. These beings should consult spiritual healers who can make life a bit more comfortable for them, as it will help open up the energy at this point and balance it with the rest of the system. Other parts of the body can be affected here, especially the thymus gland, which in turn affects the lymph nodes. Contrary to popular belief, the thymus gland does not discontinue functioning after puberty; it does continue to function and affect the lymph nodes and spiritual development. [7]

Mercury conjunct Algol: (+) Quiet persistence is the keynote of this nativity. The native will enjoy public acceptance, and good business ability can be developed. There can be legal preferment and high advancement in matters dealing with the public.

(–) On the primitive side, these natives will not hesitate to speak out when they would do better keeping silent. They will be inclined to associate with undesirables and/or poor business associates and, if so, encounter legal problems. On the extreme side, such natives could encounter legal problems and a judicial sentence.

Note: Domestic problems are possible with both (+) positive and (–) negative Mercury, surfaced or not. [13]

David Beckham 0°00′ (and AC), Eric Burdon 0°07′, Johnny Depp 0°21′ (and Venus), Alexei Navalny 0°40′, Jay Leno 0°44′, Mark Wahlberg 0°55′, Salvador Dali 1°20′ (and Mars), Clint Eastwood 1°22′, Joseph Gurney Cannon 1°22′.

Venus conjunct Algol: It is imperative that natives with this conjunction marry a congenial, competitive mate, else domestic problems will eventually surface. Natives with this conjunction can gain high public preferment. If there are domestic or romantic problems, any marriages so involved will be doomed to fail. Such natives will earn the displeasure of their family, regardless of who is at fault. There can be health problems. Caution should be exercised to avoid problematic actions. [13]

These natives have the courage of their convictions. They can leave their ‘mark’ on posterity. Turbulence is possible.

(–) The native might seem headstrong or very determined, even at times unreasonable. Some such natives are subject to rash, illegal acts, taking unnecessary chances. They seem to have the strength of their convictions and have complete disregard for public opinion, which could be a minority opinion, but loudly expressed. Turbulence is possible. [13]

If Mars is elevated above the luminaries when Algol is angular, the native will be a murderer who will come to an untimely end. The same is caused by Algol angular or with the hyleg. [3]

Very difficult to avoid accidents and severe injuries. [4]

Jupiter conjunct Algol: If Jupiter is well-aspected in the nativity, these natives can acquire the ability to amass considerable wealth. These natives are inclined to be collectors, be it art or something in their opinion that would be of value at some future date and which appeals to the native. More primitive natives, while they have the same potential, will tend to become recluses later and even reduce themselves to begging or scavenging. [13]

This is the best placement for Algol. It gives wonderful creative talents such as art and music, from which you can make a good living.

Algol Star and Evolution

From the mythology of Medusa, we can see her as a mutant. A mutation is the driver of genetic evolution. It is no surprise to see the Algol star prominent in the history of the Human Genome Project.

On June 1, 1866, Charles Benedict, the father of the American eugenics movement, was born. Mercury was conjunct Algol. He sterilized 60 000 “unfit” or mutant Americans and “strongly influenced the Holocaust in Europe” [8].

On July 16, 1945, we exploded the first nuclear bomb, the Trinity Test, in Nevada. Mars was conjunct Algol. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki that followed killed over 200 000 people and mutated countless more.

On April 25, 1953, Watson and Crick published their groundbreaking discovery on the structure of DNA, the building block of our genes. Jupiter was conjunct Algol.

On December 9, 1984, research on casualties at Hiroshima and Nagasaki led to the Alta Summit, the beginnings of the Human Genome Project. North Node was conjunct Algol. “If genome projects prove important to biology, then historians will note the Alta meeting” [9].

On June 25, 2000, President Clinton announced the completion of the Human Genome Project [10]. Saturn was conjunct Algol.

On May 18, 2006, the last chromosome sequence was published in the journal Nature. Sun and Mercury were conjunct Algol.

On May 21, 2008, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act became law “To prohibit discrimination based on genetic information concerning health insurance and employment” [11]. Venus was conjunct Algol.

  1. David Beckham has his ASC and Mercury on this star. He seems very fortunate to me! haha
I have the moon here (so does Mick Jagger), and I’d be terrifyed of this placement if it wasnt for these two very fortunate people.

  2. The global elites NWO are very familiar with the movements of the stars. If you know what is going in with Astrology then you can predict whats about to happen. Thanks for this post.

    • You got that right.. I’ve been doing charts for years ..you can see they’ve been using it for centuries, .Most of the false flags have all had similar charts to 9-11.. also Waco, Oklahoma city, Japanese timeline for Pearl harbor..
It seems there is two main shapes .. the Hex and the Square ..not being an astrologer I started out t first being very skeptical.. but after several hundred charts..I don’t think they’ve not used astrology for a very long time..

  3. Thank you, I find this fascinating, as is the Perseus myth, a personal favorite. I am a Gemini, mercury at 26 Taurus the last point of Lilly’s orb. Medusa is dead, vanquished by Perseus, the head has power, but no longer agency, an important fact. Perseus is victor by means of reflection, something to “reflect” on,

  4. I have Venus conjunction Algol. Why did you skip that conjunction? What’s your interpretation of it? I do have great teeth though. Lol. But my Venus trines Saturn in Capricorn and I know that rules the bones.

      • Hi Jamie–haven’t used fixed starts a lot but am aware of the major ones like this. I have natal Jupiter partile conjunct Algol (in 9th House Trine First House Sun). I am very creative and a musician. My wife and I also have a full production pottery studio and are accomplished cooks. I am regarded as a “pit master” by friends and family. I’ve always thought my Jupiter (Tr. Sun) was part of my durable physique–52 and only spent one night in a hospital my whole life–very active and very lucky–indestructable until recently but still mostly just accumulated aches and pains. Jupiter is not particularly well placed in Taurus and mine is unfavorably aspected to Saturn also but I’m not “feeling” much malevolence from my new found friend Algol here. Perhaps decapitation can be put off for at least a while longer! Very interesting article as always and I’m using your well organized listings to brush up on relevant fixed stars. Thanks .

  5. Oh Jamie! Just found out that the father of my children is comming back to the city, all defeated after a very bad and destructive relationship. And I had to revive his natal chart.
After having so many years trying to understand myself, in the first place.
We, my children and myself, are in this kind of harmony and stability even though that there is so much movement around (energetically and else…!).
This father of my children shows a very bad mars conjunct MH, conjunct Algol…
Though, I feel sorry about him; this really gave me something to think about (and also chills!)… He might be really dangerous. We three really have seen that he is somehow crazy.
I feel compassionate, and at the same time, trying to be very careful and cautios. I feel that we should try to take care of ourselves and to try to strengthen the little advancements we could achieve after so many struggle.
I wish us well, anyway and him to be at peace (but with this position…!?).
    What would you tell us?
My children are in the middle of college and we three are doing our best to improve… and now he wrote to my daughter that he is comming back (… when he did not take the effort when he went away…! :/). They are really thinking of seeing him just once a week to keep doing efforts in their own life (they somehow worry that he will need very much of them, when they are already struggling hard…).

He was born on the 05.march.1957, Mexico City, at 17:00 hrs.

    Thanks!

    M. del Rin.

    • I would be careful M, but I would not worry too much because your kids are in college so not as impressionable as little ones. My experience is more with Sun on Algol in my extended family. More of a sad story rather than dangerous.

      • Thankyou very much. I really are to be careful Jamie. And yes. Sad. My children really think that their father is a mess and that he is a bit crazy.
Sad, yes, because he has lost so many jobs (authorities cut him off). And he is otherwise so brilliant… very sad. His life is not an agreable one.

        Ok! So I´ll be careful.

        M. del Rin.

      • I’m confused about something. My Sun is in 26 degrees of Taurus. It is in my 8th house. Not only that but I also have 26 degrees of Taurus on my 8th house cusp. Is that all Algol related ? And if so, it must be really bad news for me – !?
        Thanks –

  6. WOW! Just found this – excellent post, Jamie.
I have Algol on my Descendant, my son has it on his Ascendant.
We were both diagnosed with Aspergers as adults, he at age 30, me at age 65.
My significant other has Algol on his South Node.
He is struggling to get his life together and has heart problems.
I have three marriages behind me. I was born 18 hours before Hiroshima with the cord around my neck (!!).
All three of us have markedly long necks.

    Take care, Jamie.
    Charlo~

    • I never thought this star was associated with Aspergers. I have Algol conjunct Saturn and always thought it was maybe asteroid Kaali that was the reason.

  7. Many thanks for this post, Jamie; I found it very informative. With my Moon conjunct Algol in the 10th at 0°43′, broadly conjunct Saturn (just within Lilly’s 5° orb) and precisely conjunct Juno (0°8′), as well as in close aspect with most of the planets—opposite Venus/Neptune, trine Mars/Pluto, quincunx Sun (which is itself conjunct Spica, the “most benefic” of the fixed stars, go figure!)/Vesta—I include Vesta here because she’s conjunct the Sun and, as a vestal virgin and priestess of the goddess herself, she too is a notable figure in this particular equation. Furthermore, asteroid Medusa, which I’ve adopted as my “name” asteroid, is conjunct Jupiter on my IC.

In short, there’s simply no getting around Algol in my chart. And as such, I choose to embrace and work with this powerful energy rather than revile and reject it—to try to hew to the “high spiritual rays.” I suppose I can be thankful to Spica and Vesta for enabling this choice, though the difficulties and counterforces are indeed sometimes legion. I can anecdotally vouch for the ability of counselor and a strange calm in moments of danger or disaster; as well as the strong nose & beautiful teeth you describe, and the glorious hair.

I’d like to add to your synopsis that since learning of Algol’s role in my chart and extensively researching the Medusa myth, the rather long key action phrase I’ve developed for the positive side of Algol is “defend and reclaim the power of the scapegoated divine feminine.” Medusa’s rape (in some versions of the tale) by Neptune was indicative of the desecration of the temples dedicated to the divine feminine, and heralded the uprising of patriarchal culture that persists to this day. Medusa may stand for violence, and she was first by her humiliation and then by her death empowered to sow death and destruction, but let’s remember that the primary violence was done not by her but to her—first by Neptune, then by Athena whom she served, and ultimately by Perseus, who severed her head.

Interesting note about the glorious hair: In my experience, the cutting of my hair has functioned as a metaphorical “beheading”—a sort of female version of the biblical story of Samson (I wonder how Algol played out in *his* chart!): When I was 5, my mother—with whom I have a variety of challenging aspects (which might be expected with Moon conjunct Algol in the 10th; incidentally, my father’s Saturn was ALSO conjunct Algol, argh…) I won’t go into those details here, but I assign her the Minerva/Athena role in this recounting—impatient with my inability to “properly” care for my long, wild, and beautiful hair—and I believe subconsciously threatened by my femininity, as Athena was by Medusa’s—insisted that my head be shorn…and so it was, cropped so close that I looked like a boy and mourned the loss long and deeply. By the time I left my parents’ house at 18 I had grown my hair back almost to my waist and kept it that way for many years until, shortly after my Saturn return (transit Saturn conjunct Algol), my abusive then-husband (Juno conjunct Algol…) dragged me up the stairs by my hair, whereupon I immediately took the scissors and hacked it all off myself—this time, in a reclamation of power rather than a stripping of it. And yes, I left him very shortly thereafter.

So far, just past the mid-life Saturn opposition, neither extreme sickness nor violent death to tell of here—of course, the end of my particular story is yet to be written, but I hope that a healthy respect and regard for Medusa will keep her on my side going forward (with an energy assist from sunnier Spica). I’d love to hear more about any readers who have strong Algol influence in their own charts!

    • elle – your story with your mom and hair is exactly mine too!
My mother is very Gemini-ish (which could be said about Diana too) – and I must say that your story could have been mine. OK, sans the scissors and pulling off hair, but with the abusive boyfriend and “aarrghhh!” father too.

My father was a bit pedophile (in the dark shadow land of unconsciouss drive) – he sought to “overpower” me, as we are so alike me and him. Meet next boyfriend: Perverted, abusive, emotionally manipulative… Slaying my self respect, slaying my boundaries. I think he was the Neptune/Perseus theme in my life, even though he insisted that I kept my hair long, otherwise he told me he would leave me. (Some people…..)

My Chiron is conjuct Algol – talk about some deep healing/scars huh?

      • Wow, LadyLaLa—our stories really are remarkably similar! My mother, too is, a strong Gemini; she used religion to try to suppress any hint of sexuality/femininity in me (her Jupiter is on my Ascendant); when I was eight or nine she told me God and Satan were fighting for my soul and Satan was winning; this only caused me to lose all respect for her apparently weakling God, who couldn’t even win a battle for a child’s soul. And my father was also “a bit pedophile,” as you so aptly put it, in the same unconscious way. He, too, sought to overpower me (more on that below your other post). I would say both were emotionally abusive, under the guise of “good” parenting. Ex-husband: like your boyfriend, emotionally manipulative, extremely verbally abusive and, as described earlier, eventually physically abusive as well. My reaction to all this, similar to yours: raise my chin, set my jaw, proudly disdain the abusers with a remote and haughty gaze. With my ex I used to hold an image of myself as a smooth white pebble; stomp me into his muck he might; but dirty, crush, or truly injure me he never could. Of course, this only frustrated him, inflamed his rage, and caused him to redouble his efforts. I think I’m grateful that Chiron isn’t in my particular mix, although I suppose that means—ugh—that my place of deepest wounding is elsewhere than this?! Truly I believe Algol conveys inner resilience, even as it draws these challenges to us—experiences that I hope are well behind you now, as they are for me, embedded though they may be. I wish you healing pure and thorough—no need to encourage you to keep your chin up 😉

    • Algol couldn’t get any more sexist or misogynist in heteronormative men. Your father’s Saturn on your 26 degree Taurus Moon sounds like the epitome of “fearing feminine power” and as a result you were severely oppressed to the expectations and societal standards of sexism and the masculine ruling class. The focus on your hair to the point of identifying its length to your feminine identity and to it structurally representing a “feminine” ideal is the total hogwash nonsense work of the inferior man, or the man with sexist attitudes that were crystallised in his own childhood by a father who commanded quite successfully a greater level of respect than his wife and a higher regarded role within the family structure than his wife, undermining the value of the feminine archetype and as a result conforming to the patriarchal view that places men above women, and holds women to “feminine” roles and appearances. Patriarchal “puppetry” used against women is marked in disrespectful relationships and is the hallmark for domestic violence, which stems from an abuse of power, such as the mean, cold, restrictive, victim blaming “controlling” father type, who may have controlled subtly through withdrawing or abruptly and overtly controlled with threats of withdrawing security needs and emotional support if you displayed a lapse in rules pertaining to what your father constitutes as “feminine”. These men are so insecure about their own masculinity and their own sense of power they fail to see the structures already inherent in society that through gender birthright already advantages them. To oppress, degrade or disrespect the role of women, or the potential for women to have equal opportunities as men, is at the core of Medusa 26 degrees Taurus. Medusa’s power was so feared, I mean she could turn men into stone. One mention of her name could turn the blood of men cold. That kind of power is something to respect, not cast as “ugly” “evil” or “monstrous”. It is the men that try to make independent women, dependant on them because they want to acquire her power, the ugly, evil and monstrous projections that women need to cut off, and without losing their heads. The only “feminine” role that should be assigned is the one you assign for yourself with the consciousness of a feminist’s perspective.

  8. I have algol exactly conjunct midheaven and would like to reiterate what elle wrote. That Medusa is the archetype of female rage at rape. All I can say is the dalai lama advises us to grasp at some self awareness when in a rage to recognize it as energy that can be directed. Otherwise I can see no upside. Not having a very good year. And of course, Prince died, so everyone’s sad.

    • one—Yes, excellent point! There’s an intense and ongoing face-off between power and powerlessness in this placement. Athena should have protected Medusa but instead punishes her; Neptune should also have protected her but instead first violates her and then abandons her to her fate. My particular Medusa is more sorrowful, despairing even, than angry…I find it very hard to access my rage, so clearly I still have a lot of work to do with this archetype to integrate its lessons. But awareness is the first step 🙂 I hope this year improves for you! Blessings and light, elle

      • and this rage is hardly ever acknowleged as a legit thing. Like it’s even more enraging that the thing that enrages you (ie that you have been raped) is proportionately dismissed and diminished. Which continues to enrage….

      • I want to apply my thansk to @one also, you are absolutely right!
Whether it’s verbally raping, physical or emotional raping, it’s still rape! It’s power and powerlessness in a constant fight for control (hello control freaks….) – and about the injustice of it all. Betrayal and injustice makes for sooo much anger, despair and sorrow.

I wish you much healing <3

  9. Since I started reading about the Algol star, and discovered my own Chiron was placed upon it at 25 degrees with a natal square to my Sun-Venus-Jupiter Stellium in Scorpio 9th house, I have come to realize that these energies are spilling over into my life and my way of doing things.
When I’m most beaten and put into a corner, I somehow rise up, chin up and stare the world straight into its face, daring it to give me its worst. I don’t know, I just rise like a queen (or so it feels), vulnerable yes, but strong. “They dance in their own blood” are words I’ve heard about algol natives, and that is true, even if my Chiron is positioned “inward”.

My dad was verbally abusive (My Chiron is located in the 3rd house) and when I grew up in my teenage years, our fights became brutal (verbally). But when he put me down, I stood tall, refused to let him see my pain, and somehow I overcame my fear of his anger, because I saw through it, saw how “small” he was inside, that he wouldn’t even dare to do all the things he threatened with. I laughed and called him weak, which of course angered him even more.

So yeah, I have this “sadistic” streak in me. I have not used it often. My BF says I get this little snarky smile on my face when he is angry at me and I just stand there, refusing to take it in. I’ve had my fair share of nasty bosses, nasty partners etc., and sometimes I wonder “WHY do I always get the same result: I overpower them and then they get nasty”…

Well, algol and the medusa myth has somehow provided some of the answers into that…!

    • LadyLaLa, I so identify with your phrase “rise like a queen” (and pretty much everything else you’ve written). With Leo rising, too, I suppose the queenly response comes naturally. I’d never heard “they dance in their own blood” before, but that sounds about right as well. With a Libra Sun I avoid confrontation as much as possible, but if I’m shoved up against a wall, the survival instinct rises and I’ll come out fighting—and I will win, and take no prisoners. I guess that’s the “sadistic” streak manifesting.

My dad used to tell me “I can out-stubborn you, I’ve been at it for a lot longer than you have.” But in truth his frustration was that he rarely did get the better of me, in spite of near-daily spankings for several years (which only galvanized my resistance) and not-infrequent “interrogation sessions”—my label, not theirs; it seemed karmic, as if we’d been in some true interrogation setting in another lifetime—in which they would keep me awake for hours past my bedtime, determined to uncover “why” I had committed some transgression. I quickly learned no answer I might give was satisfactory, so I would simply set my jaw, pick something to stare at (ah, the Medusa stare!), and fix my gaze upon it. For hours, while they’d prod and pry and moralize, I’d be as mute and immovable as stone (thank you Algol and Saturn, for lending the Moon a spine of steel) until at last they’d give up and send me to bed. It was only when I learned, around age 12, that they couldn’t distinguish between true submission and a facsimile thereof that life at home became easier, although at a high cost to my soul’s authentic expression in the world. But all that constant confrontation was doing my debilitated Libra Sun in the 3rd no favors, so I just went underground—and Sun/Moon ruler Venus in Scorpio had no problem switching to the subterranean.

As you observed, this dynamic also spills over into the outer-world life of work, school, or any setting with an authority/power dynamic. I detest petty power mongers…for the last 20 years I’ve avoided nasty bosses by working alone, freelancing from home, but every few years in school I’d get a control-freak teacher who had it in for me—this in spite of being a good student and a quiet one; they just sensed that I wasn’t falling for their power trip, and my time in their classrooms was hellish. I always ascribed that to my Mars/Pluto conjunction, but they do trine Algol in the 10th… I also stay away from government, the legal system, or any sort of bureaucracy insofar as possible.

In the 15 years since my divorce, I’ve kept “intimate” relationships at arm’s length (via long distance and/or idealized/unrealized love) to avoid engaging the power dynamic. A little lonely for a Libra Sun, and with North Node in the 7th I suppose I’m shirking destiny, but sisters and friends and dog and cat must suffice for now. I feel like Medusa’s earned a respite for a while, even if she’s going to have to be reawakened to ultimately find resolution.

  10. Beck, I appreciate your comments and insight. While I agree with much of your assessment, I think you’ve misinterpreted the context of the hair comments. I was specifically supplying anecdotal evidence to support and amplify a quote from the original article, “I have found that a strong Algol placement in the natal chart corresponds to very distinctive facial features and hair. There may be a striking beard or glorious long hair. ” Medusa herself was famous for her glorious hair, hence the symbolic association (not original to me); and my account does not reflect how I believe femininity “should” be characterized but rather is a simple statement that hair did in fact, in the cultural and familial context in which I grew up, denote femininity or lack thereof; and that the loss of it therefore denoted to me a corresponding symbolic loss of both femininity and, not incidentally, POWER—another major Medusa theme—as I had no say in the decision. I empathize with your eagerness to denounce the dysfunctions of patriarchy and again can accompany you a fair way of that path, but I’ve no desire to demonize either men or women as a matter of course; let’s not forget that in the myth it’s Minerva/Athena, not Poseidon/Neptune, who has Medusa beheaded, though he certainly bears his share of blame—and by the same token it was not my father but my mother who insisted on the traumatic shearing described. I also wouldn’t characterize Medusa as “ugly, evil, or monstrous”; on the contrary, as I believe I said earlier, working with her energy in my chart represents to me an opportunity to reclaim the power of the scapegoated divine feminine, a theme I’ve been dealing with my entire life—as you might expect of someone with a Medusa that not only conjuncts the Moon, Juno, and Saturn but also aspects Mars/Pluto (trine), Venus/Neptune (opposition), and Sun/Vesta (quincunx)—and I have been consciously unpacking what the Algol energy means to me for at least fifteen years. Let me reemphasize, “what it means TO ME”; overexposure to sermons in childhood gave me a lifelong allergy to proselytizing of any stripe, and so I have to take exception to your use of the obligation-inducing “role that should be assigned”, which bears an unfortunately close resemblance to the very sort of paternalistic attitude you so pointedly deplore. I shall indeed decide my own role, heeding “should”s from NO external quarter—and here you would not be wrong in detecting the steely glint of Medusa in my eye.

    • Not demonising men. Feminism, or intersectional feminism is about equality and also considers the ruling class (white, heteronormative, middle class) as oppressing men of colour, homosexual men and working class men.

Long hair within this myth is gendered through bigotry and is socially constructed. Sexism and misogyny needs to be called out, not just by women but also by men. It’s at the core of domestic violence, and in my country 2 women per week are dying at the hands of loved ones. There’s more money being spent on protecting borders from terrorism when the real terrorism is happening to women. It’s not an act of demonising men to call sexism what it is, it’s an act of calling sexists what they are, and in 26 degrees taurus, it’s fully loaded sexism, same as heteronormative men with Moon square Venus. It’s really important to note not all men are inherently sexist, as you feeling I was demonising men implies. 26 degrees taurus is however, inherently sexist. Grab a book on intersectional feminism – it will be transformative.

      • And it’s important to note that strong pluto to personal planets has the capacity to transform attitudes if they become conscious of their inherent behaviour. So in terms of manifesting change through exchange, it’s really important that the message is clear, and the path from dark to light is exemplified and the option to undertake that path is sound advice. Not that I expect the authority of a women will suffice.

  11. Beck, it seems we’re talking past one another to some degree, and unnecessarily so, for there is much on which we agree—including, I think, that we are all products of a patriarchal society of long standing, and that this is problematic, inviting both examination and alteration, perhaps even revolutionary change. You have a specific and passionate reading of 26 Taurus, rooted in your personal perspective on feminism and sexism, as informed by your experience and academic understanding. I, too, have a specific reading of 26 Taurus, quite similar in many regards but likewise rooted in my own personal experience (which, as noted, does include domestic violence) and reading (which, in fact, includes a rather wide range of works on feminism as well as the rise of the patriarchy). Our perspectives can certainly inform (and thus, indeed, as you say, transform) and enhance those of others. But in my reading your invoking of “the” path from dark to light hints at an underlying dogma, for there are infinite paths to enlightenment, infinite facets of truth, and yet religions and secular “isms” alike so often fall into the trap of believing that their own path is the sole correct one (and indeed in some cases of defending this belief to the death, or even going on the offensive in the cause of forcing it on others). While I’m open to expanding upon my basis for understanding and experience, and indeed eagerly seek out new knowledge—thus my sincere appreciation for your interpretation and recommendation for further reading on intersectional feminism—I do not subscribe to the notion that I must accept or adopt wholesale anyone else’s interpretation of a truth as “the” truth. This has nothing to do with “the authority of a woman” being insufficient (and in suggesting that this would be the case, you make a rather vast assumption about me on the basis of very limited information; and in fact, i had not formed any prior idea of your gender identity so could not have assessed your advice through that lens). I’m simply hardwired to test all external authority and recoil from all dogma, in favor of following my own authority and my own path—this being, as I see it, fundamental to my purpose on Earth in this life. And as I continue to work with Algol energy as well as with the rest of my chart, no doubt my thinking will indeed continue to grow and change, but I do not see life exclusively or even primarily through the lens of sexism. Incidentally, in my country women may soon be subject to the military draft, even as the pendulum of political will swings backward and they are increasingly restricted again in their decisions about their own bodies (abortion, birth control). I think we can readily agree that the second instance is regressive, and I certainly would not call it progress that we may soon be liable to being pressed into military service to fight the wars that uphold the patriarchal order. But some will cheer this development as indicative of equality, even as some will vote for Hillary Clinton in our November election simply because she is a woman, irrespective of any other factors. These are examples of particular interpretations of feminism in action; I, examining the same information, come to different conclusions. I am happy to allow them their views and you yours; as for me, like all of us, I form my own: “For the self is a sea boundless and measureless. Say not, ‘I have found the truth,’ but rather, ‘I have found a truth.’ Say not, ‘I have found the path of the soul.’ Say rather, ‘I have met the soul walking upon my path.’ For the soul walks upon all paths. The soul walks not upon a line, neither does it grow like a reed. The soul unfolds itself, like a lotus of countless petals” [Gibran]. Personally, I delight in the process of unfolding and in the mysteries of the self that will always lie tantalizingly beyond us, and have found that my most difficult experiences have been the greatest sources for the deepening of my self-understanding and growing into my own power—again, part and parcel of the journey of Medusa.

    • I should add, I hope and believe that what we’re collectively engaging in here—examining Algol and the Medusa myth—is itself a furthering of the process of unpacking patriarchal assumptions and having a closer look at their underpinnings; and that I very much value the discussion and exchange of thoughts on the subject (or I wouldn’t be participating in it).

  12. I have Algol conjunct Chiron at the apex of a Yod involving Neptune in Sag and Pluto in Libra. Using mysticism and power to transform and heal feminine wounds perhaps?

Also…the hair thing…totally true. I have about two feet of hair and feel naked without it that long.

  13. I have 26 degrees of Taurus on my 8th house cusp. My Sun is in the 8th house and is also in 26 degrees of Taurus. Pluto squares my Sun from the 10th house. I’m not sure where Algol itself is in my chasrt.

As far as hair….I’ve never had short hair in my life, except when I was a little child and had no say in the matter.

  14. I would think it would be meaningful only if you have a planet (especially a luminary or personal planet) or point conjunct Algol. I have Moon(0°)/Juno(0°)/Saturn(5°) conjunct and Algol aspects every planet in my chart except Jupiter (which, however, is conjunct asteroid Medusa). I definitely feel it in the trine (to Mars/Pluto) and sesquiquadrate (to Uranus), but I think that’s mostly because of the Algol Moon.

  15. just a note: Not sure if Algol conjunct one’s node pertains. Example: Albert Einstein had Algol conjunct his North node and surely he was a good man. But when he died, his head was cut off so that the scientist could examine his brain. This was not Albert’s request as he wanted to be cremated. So it seems Algol reacts even upon death.

    • Great information Thank you Judith. People aare always asking about the lunar nodes with fixed stars. This is one more piece of excellent qualitative evidence in support.

  16. 24 degree’15 Midheaven so would this be considered conjunction because Algol is 26’10. How close does it have to be? 29 degree Asc.

    • I believe there was at least one prominent ancient astrologer who used an orb of up to 5° with Algol because it’s an especially powerful star. But an orb 3° seems more typically used, and only 1°30′ is common for most fixed stars—the closer they are to your planet or angle, the more likely that you’ll feel their influence. At an orb of 1°55′, I’d say your MC conjunction is in the ballpark. Also note that 26°10 is where Algol is now, as opposed to the date of your birth, so your actual conjunction is going to have a slightly tighter orb. For instance, Algol was at 25°46′ when I was born, conjunct my Moon at 25°27′ for a 0°19′ orb, but now the orb in its current position has increased 0°43′. I don’t think your Asc would be affected as conjunctions are the most powerful aspect for a fixed star (and the only one some astrologers use for these), and IMO any other aspects would need to be very exact to factor in.

  17. Just a note: Algol will figure prominently this year as it is square Trumps mars in Leo where the eclipse will occur.. I think Algol has a lot to answer for for sheer destruction: Recently OJ Simpson is being considered for release from prison and I looked at his chart and there you are: His Venus is conjunct Algol square moon in aquarius. No denying if you study Simpson’s chart it shows clearly he was a murderer and its too bad because he was a great athlete and star. Trump is busy destroying “killing” most laws that protect the environment, education, women’s rights, research medicine and scientist research, etc. but instead sells guns to countries which speeds up more killing.

    • Good point, Judith! I hadn’t considered the Algol square before—and not only that, this solar eclipse will be with Regulus, conjunct Trump’s Mars and Ascendant—plus visible along a path that spans from coast to coast of the U.S. for the first time in I think 218 years? or that Mars will be approaching a natal Mars conjunction in the 12th (that natal Mars in the 12th along with Pluto, and Mars conjunct the Asc, is such an apt descriptor of him) with the transiting NN between them, plus a Jupiter return squaring his natal Saturn, the long-term Pluto transit square his natal Jupiter and quincunx his Uranus, transiting Saturn opposing his chart ruler Sun/NN/Uranus conjunction in the 10th from the 4th, and on and on. Seems the conditions are right for something big (dare I say huge?) to boil over in this presidency. Interesting times we live in, indeed…

    • hi Judith,
Can you please tell me how to find Algol in a chart ? I have nio idea and have tried looking up how to find it,without any luck.

If you have any insight into these details please let me know ? Thanks –
I have 26 degrees of Taurus on my 8th house cusp. My Sun is in the 8th house, and is also in 26 degrees of Taurus. Pluto squares my Sun from the 10th house.

      • Anne, you need a couple of books that show where the fixed stars are. Try Vivian Robson on fixed stars. you might want to watch both the new moons and lunar returns as well as solar returns each year and month as having algol conjunct your sun depends on careful watching. don’t forget progressed sun. And scrutinize your living arrangements.

        • hi Judith,
Thanks very much for the book suggestions. I’ll certainly look for that author.

I was finally able to find a site where I could compute a free chart that shows where Algol is my birth chart. That was fascinating. If I computed it correctly Algol is in my 7th house in 25 degrees of Taurus. Which is odd since the Sun itself is in 26 degrees of Taurus and so is the 8th house cusp. But I’m not an expert.

I agree, keeping an eye on current astrology is a good idea. I have some software so I’m able to compute lunar charts, solar and progressed charts, hit lists of daily aspects. I also purchase solar reports every year.
I’ve been pretty safety-conscious since losing an older sibling when I was 12 years old,{but of course as you grow older you get better at being safe than you thought you were when you were younger}.

I’m not sure why you mentioned living arrangements ?, but I do avoid unsafe areas and have always been
lucky as to having nice places to live. I keep my doors locked and so on. I’m not into having room mates or house guests.

I have a lot in my astrology that’s concerning. Not just my Sun being in 26 degrees of Taurus,in the 8th house with the 8th house cusp also in 26 degrees of Taurus {whew}, with Sun opposed by Pluto in
10th….but also Mars squares my Ascendant. And Pluto opposes my Part of Fortune in the 4th house. My 4th house is opposed by both Uranus and Pluto in the 10th.The 4th relates to the end of life, how it ends or conditions at the end ,as well as home life and so on as you probably know.

I had an extremely psychic friend who, years ago, accidentally let on that she was concerned about me. But refused to say why. But I could see she was upset.Great, right ?! I knew she was afraid to say anything in case it made things worse or brought it closer. But I wish she could have given some sort of advice anyway. She refused to.

I’ve had plenty of near-misses in my life as far as my safety goes but as I get older I’m more aware of all the things that can suddenly come up and catch a person unaware, and so I avoid far more situations than I used to. I’ve learned to think ahead as to what all can go wrong before I even get involved in anything or go anywhere. As a parent you do that for your children too, so that also helped me get into the “what if” mindset because I’ve raised children of my own.

Again thanks very much for the reply and the advice ! I didn’t know New Moons would have anything to do with an Algol type. New Moons are potentially an especially dangerous time for Algol types ?

          Since most astrology people are curious types who compute almost anything they can, I’ll just post my birth info in case any of this has touched off any curiosity;

          “Anne” {not my real name}
          17 May,1959
          04:59 PM
          Mesa,Arizona

{As if all this wasn’t enough, I’m a birth date 17 and an 8 in numerology. 8 being especially unfortunate ! }. Oh well ! LOL

  18. OH NO…my heart just dropped into my stomach after reading & learning about this…my natal Moon is at 26°29′ Taurus/2nd house which is pretty much right at the exact starting placement of the dreaded Algol – and I just read here that an Algol/Moon conjunction means that I’ll (possibly)suffer from a “Violent death or extreme sickness.”???????? – my moon is also exactly opposite my 26°Scorpio Uranus in the 8th house which both are part of a T-square with 1°Virgo/5th house, if that may indicate something else, please, ANY KNOWLEDGE, FEEDBACK, INFORMATION or OPINIONS of ANY KIND about this disturbing new Algol aspect that I just spoke of, ANY REPLIES WILL BE IMMENSELY APPRECIATED!!! Thanks a ton…..

    David

    • I have an Algol Moon as well. Don’t let it worry you—every factor and aspect in your chart can be manifested positively or negatively; it just depends on how you work with it. Traditional and Vedic astrology interpretations are often fatalistic, but you always have to look at the whole picture to get a sense of how each chart factor plays out in your own life. Also, the Moon is naturally exalted in Taurus, so we have that going for us even though the degree itself is considered challenging.

And, too, the Sabian degree symbol (another fatalistic system and again, not to be taken too literally) for 26° Taurus is by no means a negative one: “‘An alchemist works in his laboratory. A heap of gold coins are on his table. The window overlooks a field covered with wheat.’ Ingenious, simple, and noble character. Success and wealth are achieved in an unusual profession or in activities dealing with metal. It is most likely that a major discovery or invention is rewarded by a prestigious prize. Even though one earns a lot of money, one does not change one’s frugal lifestyle.”

I recommend really digging into the myth of Medusa and thinking about how it manifests in your life…I’ve found plenty of “gold” in that study 🙂 Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia in Star Wars) was a famous Algol Moon person, btw, who did not die a violent or extreme death. Her hair certainly did become iconic, however! And I think her long-term struggle with substance abuse was more indicative of the Algol influence than her manner of death.

I’m not sure I understand the “T-square with 1°Virgo”—do you have a planet or point at 1° Virgo, or is that just the 5th house cusp? I don’t tend to use aspects to house cusps other than conjunctions, and even those I take with a grain of salt since there are numerous house systems and the cusp degrees differ depending on the system you’re using. Even if you do have a planet at 1°Virgo, it would be a 5° orb out-of-sign square and thus less powerfully felt than an in-sign square (i.e., 26° Leo or Aquarius).

  19. I’m really freaking out after reading this article and how it indicates that having my Moon/Algol exactly conjunct eachother will equal a “Violent death or extreme sickness” for me! My retrograde 26°Scorpio Uranus in the 8th house is EXACTLY opposite my 26°Taurus Moon/2nd house and those 2 form a T-Square with my Venus in 1°Virgo/5th house, if that could maybe be indicative of something? ANY FEEDBACK, OPINIONS, INFORMATION, KNOWLEDGE or replies would be immensely appreciated! Thank you….

    David

    • Also;
With Uranus in the 8th house you are likely quite psychic. And Uranus in the 8th can mean a sudden, unexpected demise but don’t worry about that so much, When you think about it, very often people have no clue when they’ll pass away. Unless they’ve got an incurable illness, you know ? But that’s some of what I know about Uranus in the 8th house. With Uranus opposing your Moon, likely you are not “straight”,just saying. I hope you enjoy your creativity and I hope it helps you with any stress. I’m creative too, I can’t do without art.
I have something that seems scary as well, I know the feeling… and I wish people would give me their opinions – I have 26 degrees of Taurus on my 8th house cusp. My Sun is in the 8th house, and is also in 26 degrees of Taurus. Pluto squares my Sun from the 10th house. I’m not sure where “Algol” itself is in my chart. I need to find out more about how to find it. Do you know how to find Algol in a chart ?! I don’t know how.

      • Anne: There are several books that will show you how to find fixed stars in your chart. Try Fixed Stars by Vivian Robson to start.

        • hi judith,
OK thanks very much I’ll look for the book.

Do you think having 26 degrees of Taurus on the 8th house cusp is a worry ? Plus I have my Sun in the same degree of Taurus, and it’s in the 8th. A lot of emphasis on 8th house and the 26 degrees !

          • You can also go to Astrodienst (astro.com), where you can find almost any element, including fixed stars and asteroids, in your natal chart (and a wide variety of other chart types besides). Hover over Free Horoscopes at the top of the home page for dropdown menu > choose Extended Chart Selection from third column under Drawings and Calculations > click on Add a New Person > plug in your birth info > scroll down to near the bottom of the page > click on List of fixed stars > check the box next to Algol (or just type Algol into the text window just above the list link). You can create a free account to save up to 100 birth and/or event profiles, which you can then use to create any number of charts.

      • Pluto square Sun can be an indicator of a difficult childhood, sometimes in relationship with the father in particular—who, especially with your 8th house Sun, may have been quite rigid in his attitudes and beliefs. But people with this aspect can also attain a high degree of personal power and capability as they learn to overcome early challenges. Both the Sun placement and the Pluto square to it are strong signs of personal transformation—you grow by repeatedly reinventing yourself throughout life.

Youtube is a great resource for delving into the meanings of house placements and aspects. I personally resonate with Jewel Mayberry’s videos, but there are many others out there to choose from as well.

Jamie, I hope it’s okay to link to another astrologer’s videos here, since as far as I know you don’t make videos? But please delete, with my apologies, if it’s against comment rules.

        • Hi Elle,
You’re right. My father was an “authoritarian” type, and I never knew him very well even though he retired early by the time I was born and I spent a lot of time with him when I was small. He was great with young children. I realized after he passed on that I knew very little about him, although I went through a period of time of asking questions so I did find out some things – but only because I asked. After I started growing up he didn’t seem to know how to relate.

Odd thing is, despite the Sun square Pluto my childhood difficulties mainly came from my mother instead.Although my father growing distant didn’t help much either.

The Sun-Pluto thing for me mainly manifested in a personal way through the types of men I’ve fallen in love with or married. Also, I lost an older brother when I was young. All 3 of my brothers had difficult lives. So I guess it may have “described” my brothers too, and I had “difficulties” with my younger brother.

My father was rough on my half-siblings but far more neutral with “his” children. Myself and my youngest brother. We weren’t treated in a heavy-handed way at all. Confusing growing up seeing my older half-siblings treated differently. Sad,too.

Yes that’s right about re-inventing myself. I’m fairly “aware” or at least think I am,and enjoy learning things, With Neptune rising in Scorpio “transformation” is emphasized again.

Thanks, I’ll check out Jewel Mayberry videos, I know right, YouTube is a great source of all sorts of info.

I also collect astrology books of all kinds and studied it to a degree by taking courses.

Thanks for the links and everything !
          🙂

    • hi David –
Don’t worry too much,I know it seems frightening though. I think a good astrologer would tell you that benefic or “good” parts of your chart can help to combat or protect you from negative areas of your astrology. At least to some extent, so don’t let it worry you too much until you get some thorough chart readings. If you focus only on a negative area you’ll miss the better parts of your astrology. Perhaps get a few good chart interpretations or readings. Don’t go with only one opinion or one astrologer, since opinions can vary. Often too, “negative” aspects have various meanings, not just one and not all are usually horrible.

    • Oh, now I see, Venus is at 1°Virgo…Moon square Venus usually indicates that your emotional needs and your desires are quite different and this can cause internal friction as you try to satisfy them both, but in this case with the out of sign square they’re actually trine by sign (both in earth signs) and probably get along quite well. Remember, too, that “difficult” aspects like squares are places where we have been working with the competing energies since we were born; they may be places where we struggle, but by the time we’re full-fledged adults we’ve often learned how to integrate them quite well. A natal chart is something to both learn from, and eventually in many ways to depart from, although it’s always part of us—in much the same way that we learn from and are nurtured by our parents, and eventually grow up and leave them; their DNA and the things they taught us will always be part of us, yet we no longer rely wholly on them to feed and shelter and clothe and teach us. Your chart is a picture of you at birth, but you are not your chart, if that makes sense.

  21. My father…who has always been terrifying for me…I just discovered that he has a triple conjuction with ALGOL in his 4th house His Moon is perfectly conjuct..and his moon is conjuct Uranus (think jumpy tazmanian energized demon), conjunct Saturn

Could this mean ..that my father’s mother….was Algol like? She is remembered as a calm, religious, tolerant woman…practical..she kept a very dry journal that was just a record of daily events..for decades.

My father’s moon is trine Mercury (he was very verbally abusive)…his pet name for me..when he was happy with me..was “shit for brains”

Moon square Chiron (he was very sensitive…anything that you would not imagine would be meaningful..would cause a deep personal wound and cause rage as though you had stabbed him in the back…with vile intention.) ..like if you didn’t follow his casual advice…this could happen and cause him to hold a grudge on this for a decade..

    Moon opp MC

He was of course an alcoholic which I always knew that he drank in order to put the demon to sleep…And when he was drunk..he would be very sorry for the actions that he did when he wasn’t drunk. It was horrible to witness..and it happened almost every night. To offset the fatigue of heavy drinking…I think he took uppers…which as you can imagine put the nightmare parade on fast forward…

I have always observed my father with appalled curiosity..not understanding how a man like this could be a functioning doctor…and how he could even drive a car… He was finally fired for drinking…but I never hated him…I was more afraid of what was going on with him. Because I couldn’t predict him..and I prided myself on spotting patterns and predicting (virgo sun)…and he would still suprise and astonish me. Mostly when he would become outraged over things that he imagined…and he would harass and harangue and punish and yell and become violently indignant over things that DIDN”T HAPPEN! and I had the opportunity at this time..to go deeply within into a very still place….while facing the storm. So this was a valuable if terrifying ability…to learn to stay calm in the face of a raging bull like this..

Right now…he has Pluto transiting his ASC..and he has Natal pluto opposite his ASC…

So…after learning all of this..I just have to say…considering the challenges…I would have to say that it is a miracle that he turned out as well as he did. He is not in jail,he hasn’t killed anyone, he functions roughly within normal parameters from an outside view..which I think is like a Astrological Olympic feat really…

    • Moon conjunct Uranus, he could have bisexual tendencies, or repressed tendencies. I’m only focusing on that because I’m tired at the moment, and that was what seemed obvious to me. So that would also add to his drama queen/hissy attitudes. He sounds a bit dramatic for a straight man. No offense. He does sound very complicated too.

    • P.S. He might also have psychological issues, sounds like at the least he could be a Narcissist. They’re usually abusive.

  22. Great article! I’m realizing Algol has some higher meaning with female empowerment too. I have Jupiter conjunct Algol and my Jupiter is conjunct my MC. I’ve had my fair share of women who’ve shouted, “off with her head!” But I always get through. One even wore my head on her shield like Athena- she stole my ideas (my head) from a proposal I had made and claimed them to be her own (her shield).

Something interesting: I notice you wrote about Watson and Crick and DNA. There was a woman just as involved in the research. Rosalind Franklin had also discovered that DNA was a double helix. As a female, she was eclipsed from the credit, which was given to 2 men (Watson and Crick).

  23. Ok, so the Sun joins Algol on the 16th of May.
My questions is simple: when does Algol leave the Sun?

  24. Often people get too upset with knowing algol plays a significant part in their life but there are many meanings attributed to this star. For example, I have found some people who have this star describing their relationships or marriage partner. Two examples: one person was financially destroyed by his spouse who ued all their assets for drugs. They got divorced but he lost his house. Another person also had a similar experience when their spouse used all his hard won money to play on line casinos. No matter, algol does signify serious conditions but it would be wise for people to use a good astrologer or excellent psychic if they can’t figure it all out alone. This year and next would be a good time to watch the events and happenings in both their and life in general as the total solar and total lunar eclipse in Leo will target Algo in square.

  25. Checking out Stephen Paddock’s chart there is Jupiter conjunct mars conjunct pars fortune on Algol with his natal Pluto in Leo square these planets. Algol was triggered in square to Pluto when the total eclipse occurred in August 2017. Paddocks chart shows a man prone to violence, selfish, and contentious. Again, Algol is triggered causing mass murder with this total eclipse and this evil man’s chart should be studied including the stars.

    • hi judith there are also many other points here: his dominating moon-pluto opposition (moon is his chart-ruler !!!) – the soul is in the underworld – hate, depression, loneliness etc. Then look ast his sa-ne-conjunction in his fourth house opposition his sun and venus and also square his ac/dc axis….again you can see some strange feelins here – he is in deed a damaged soul which causes damaged relationships… then he wants to free himself from this difficult emotional constellations whit an explosive, but deranged action = mars-jupiter in 11 sextile uranus in 12, and ur in 12 is the ruler of his 8th where his ac-ruler moon is in….jupiter is conjunct capulus and zaurak and widely also algol…. uranus in 12th is conjunct sirius and mars conjunct nessus from 11th makes also a slight square to pluto in 2th house and to his nodes – warped and ill-psyched violence !

    • i think it is also a massive self-hate he projected here by murdering others…

    • Further on his mars is also conjunct menkar which is described as: bad relationships, violence, murderous, ruthlessness and a violent death…. and together whith nessus it really doesn’make it any better….

  26. Get this. My 8th house Sun is in 26 degrees of Taurus. As if that’s not enough, the cusp of my 8th house is also in the same degree of Taurus, 26 degrees. Apparently, that’s not so good, ? My 8th house Sun is also squared by Pluto in the 10th house.

  27. My 8th house Sun is in 26 degrees of Taurus. As if that’s not enough, the cusp of my 8th house is also in the same degree of Taurus, 26 degrees. Apparently, that’s not so good, ? My 8th house Sun is also squared by Pluto in the 10th house.
    Any comments ?
I’ve noticed the person who made the page doesn’t reply to comments. Why not ?

    • I do reply to comments just not all of them. I don’t have the time with writing free weekly, monthly and yearly horoscopes, moon phases, aspects and transits, then fitting in personal readings and raising three kids on my own and in and out of hospital.

      • hi,
OK, thanks. I saw the question from 2017 further up the page unanswered and assumed it went unanswered because you just don’t, since it was from last year. Good luck with the hospital.

        • Usually other people answer questions too but we are all really beginners with fixed stars. That’s why I wanted to write these pages so the comments would add more detail. Eventually I want to add more celebrities to the fixed star conjunctions which would be very helpful.

          • Oh that explains a lot. I assumed you were an expert !
            🙂
Yes, famous people’s charts help illustrate. I used to have Lois Rodden’s Astrodata bank, still do but not uploaded anymore but I have the disc. It was fascinating.

          • I noticed that dancer Isadora Duncan had a fixed grand cross involving Pluto on Algol, Mars-Lilith, the Moon and Uranus. She was strangled by her long scarf when it was caught in the wheels of a convertible. I’ve also been wondering about the latest spate of celebrity hangings (Bourdain’s passing really broke my heart). As Algol was so active as Uranus ingressed into Taurus, it makes me wonder if we’ve heard the end of these high profile hangings.

  28. Hi Jamie, If you have time, was hoping you could tell me the significance of Algol conjunct Neptune in the 10th house.

    Love your site!!!

    Thanks in advance, Margaret

    • Not a substitute for what Jamie can tell you, but here’s a little historical background:

The last Neptune–Algol conjunction occurred in roughly 1885–1887 (Algol was at around 24°32 Taurus back then).

I’d have a look at what was happening in the world then, as well as at the bios of people born in those years, especially around the exact conjunctions in June and September 1885 and April 1886.

In a cursory search, I was struck by the number of prominent authors born around the 1885 conjunctions whose works are still widely read in the present era, including D.H. Lawrence, Ezra Pound, Sinclair Lewis, Karen Blixen (Isak Dinesen), and Edna Ferber. A glance at their lives might help provide some context.

The 1886 group also contained a few authors and composers but had a broader representation from the fields of architecture, science, philosophy, astrology, theology: Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (architect), Louis Pasteur Vallery-Radot (physician & his famous grandfather’s biographer & editor), Frederick Lindemann (physicist), Karl Barth (theologian), Ellen McCaffery (astrologer), Jean Verdier (engineer-author-astrologer), Geoffrey Hodson (theosophist). Soldiers who went on to become writers and influential thinkers were also a recurring theme in the latter group.

    • I don’t use House only Ascendant axis and Midheaven axis. But Algol with Neptune would be good for creative talents like music and dance I would think. But it would make you very sensitive when you see bad things on the TV news like disasters that affect lots of people.

  29. Thanks for taking the time to respond and keep up the great work. Love your site and best regards!

  30. Very interesting, thank you. I never considered where this star was and just took the time to research it. Apparently I have Algol at 25 deg. Taurus. Therefore it is a return I believe. Any thoughts Jamie?

  31. Oh Jamie!
I did my solar return over the weekend and was gob-smacked to see that Algol is on my MC! Orb 0:57.
In my natal chart, Algol is on my Desc, orb 0:19, and the baleful star seems to have been following me around lately in that it appears in a prominent position in most of the charts I calculate for progressions or transits to my chart. A few months ago I was quite ill, and Algol was on something or the other when the illness started.
    But there’s more.
I ran my son’s solar return, which will occur in December (mine happened in the last few days). He has Algol on HIS MC, too, with a tight orb. His natal Algol is right on his Asc. – We were born in opposite hemispheres, it occurs to me.
Not only do our Algols match in the solar returns, every single house cusp matches as well, within a degree or two of orb.
What can possibly be going on?
I must say that I’m not really scared of Algol. I’m pretty much accustomed to his energy after all this time. But I AM wary. Your interpretation on this page says “murder, sudden death”. We DO live in quite a volatile country…

    • hi Char !
Try having your natal TAURUS SUN in 26 degrees inside the 8th house,!
plus the 8th house natal CUSP in the same 26 degrees, like the 8th house Taurus Sun !
      That’s what I’ve got ! Augghhh !
      🙁

I wanted clarity too, but from what I’ve understood here, everyone’s learning, no one is an expert
      on it so, yeah,
      🙁
      🙁
      🙁
I hope someone can explain it to you though, if they do maybe they could give their 2 cents about
my natal Algol ! I sure have a ton of it for my Sun and 8th house. Freaky !

    • I think (or should that be – I hope?) we’re past this hurdle.
Both of us had a moderately severe bout of Swine Flu, from which we’re now recovering.
      We’re still here!

  32. Jamie, I was looking at the Star Trek chart, Sep 6, 1966, 8pm Halifax, NS…. and Algol is Sextile Jupiter in a Yod with the Galactic Centre. The GC is at the top of the chart conjunct the Mid Heaven. The Yod looks like the Arrowhead insignia from the tv show and NASA symbology …. could it be?

  33. I weeks I understood all of this…I feel like I’m reading a different language that I don’t speak…sucks because it seems do intetesting

  34. Well… I know someone who has both the Sun and Mars conjunct Algol. Of course never say never, but he is 67 now and is one of the luckiest people I know, on all fronts.
If I am not mistaken, Pope John Paul II also had the Sun conjunct Algol. While he was sick towards the end of his life, it would be a gross exaggeration to call it “extreme sickness” – or violent death, for that matter.

    • Perhaps he had a great deal of benefic aspects and placements. Maybe lots of Jupiter.

  35. what no one seems to recognize here is that neptune as the ruler of the feminine sign pisces should also be a female godess – as the counterpart in the medusa-myth to the patriarchal jupiter/perseus and also pallas athene. The first thing here is in my opinion that the old greeks as a patriarchal culture turned the great mother pisces into a male god – neptune. As pisces and sagittarius squre each other, jupiter, his son perseus and also pallas (who is in deed jupiters daughter with metis he ate up because he feared her female power and then came out of his head as a patriarchal transformed kind of woman) – they all stand for and defend jupiters patriarchiarchal sytem of a state. And – further more – this also has a tremendous meaning for political and social structures in society: It is no wonder that pallas athene punishes medusa/neptune for breaking the rules of her temple whitch is the patriarchal state itself – because she was the guardian of the city and state of athens – just loook at this ! Now what does that mean ? Just look at jesus – and christianity often is assigned to the pisces sign and neptune- in my eyes he prayed universal and unconditional love and forgivness – and this is not an archetypical male thing as spiritual knowledge and science is which is more associated to uranus (and jupiter) – therefor for me he is a similar matriarchal guy as neptune is. And what happened to him ? He was slaughtered by patriarchism as medusa was…Because at first the jewish spiritual establihment (once more: jupiter !!!) condemmed him and that was the main reason the romans began to prosecute him. In deed – as written before by some others – the algol/medusa myth indicates total destruction the last rests of matriachal influences in state and society and total taking over by patriarch jupiter… The same happened again in slaying jesus by the jewish-roman establishment of that time and also – whitch is even more serious – by the “christian” religious institutions that followed like the roman-catholic church… So do you even wonder why the “christian” churches (and the lutherian-calvinistic equally worse) did prosecute women whith long hair and maybe also practising old matriarchal forms of plant-healing as evil vixens ??? So – now can you see how important the whole algol-medusa story in deed is ?! And why algol is oftenly called a very political star too ? Just look at donald trump….or josef stalin whith his mars-pluto on algol ans his sun-saturn squre from sagittarius to pisces (and here again the battle between jupiter and neptune !!!) and so on….

  36. And you can also interpret the rape of medusa by neptune in athenes temple in another way : medusa was overwhelmed by her own female spiritual power in an patriarchal system – she was overwhelmed (=raped) by unconditional universal love in her heart whithout any boundaries as jesus was in a male body – therefor she was slaughtered by the jupiter establishment…
I call the neptune energy in its highest manifestation “the cosmic love” – this is not to know the origin of all but to feel it as the heart of a mother- it is the universal/spiritual female in astrology like the universal and spiritual male is uranus (which i call the holy spirit – it is about knowing there instead of feeling it…) So again in my eyes there is a misinterpretation here of that part of the story by most of the posts here….Also remember that jesus is mostly pictured whith long hair – a stunning parallel to medusa – and – he is supposed having a relationship to maria magdala – so he respected women as equal even if they were in prostitution – but the “christian” church did not…And what about the role of jesus’ mother maria in catholicism ? Here again you have neptune in disguise…

    • Thank you kindly for sharing! May you please expand upon Neptune, or point me in the direction of where I might read more of your perspectives on Neptune? I have read and listened to some folks describe Neptune positively, but this is a very refreshing perspective as well! I am quite interested and would greatly appreciate any further expounding on this subject as I was born during a Neptunian eclipse (Neptune 18’40”, Sun 18’54”, Uranus 18’09”, Odin 18’20”; all parallel). I know this is an older comment but am grateful for your time in the past and in advance!

      • Jayne Mansfield cause of death was said to be “crushed skull with avulsion of cranium and brain”, which fits Algol’s interpretation. I had heard that she was decapitated in the car accident in which she died, but apparently this was not true, according to Wikipedia – what a horrible rumour to have spread!

      • My Taurus Sun is at 26 degrees {Algol}. It’s in the 8th house, and my 8th house cusp is also at 26 degrees of Taurus. I hope I’ll be OK ! Pretty serious stuff.

        • I’m sure you’ll be ok, Anne. After all, these positions have been there all your life, and here you are posting on the Algol blog!
Don’t forget, either, that it’s the dramatic incidents that get the attention. Another thing to remember is that the 8th house is also about transformation, which can be uncomfortable while it’s going on, but ends up having been worthwhile.

          • With astrology it can be’ symbolic ‘ also like the loss of a high position in government ( I.e H.Clinton has it on her S.Node , and she never reached the top of her game.) Bill also had his moon wide conjunct hers.)
On the opposite end Marie Antoinette.doesn’t have anything conjunct hers.I’m sure there can be other aspects that can be mitigating also.I agree these examples are sensational and should not be construed the wrong way.Astrology is interpretive at best.Everyone has Algol in their chart but few people have this kind of ‘ harsh’ result.I wrote in another comment section , about an astrologer that had the same exact birthday as someone I know that doesn’t know anything more about astrology than her Sun sign. “There ya go ” !
Does that invalidate astrology in any way ? I’m not saying that at all. There is too much beyond coincidence that happens , but each individual is unique and their life experience will be. ‘ colored ‘differently for that reason alone.Have a good day ! 🙂

            • Thank you Doug, for injecting some much-needed sanity here! I must confess that I have been concentrating on the sensational OMG!! aspect of Algol, in spite of the fact that Jamie posted both positive and negative interpretations.
Algol is on my Desc. Ok, so I was born with the cord around my neck, and my “foetal distress” supposedly precipitated my birth four days earlier than expected, but who knows whether that didn’t happen to give me the horoscope that matched my needs for this incarnation?
I’ve had some fairly dramatic relationship experiences, mostly from not choosing my associates more carefully. So up to now, I can say that I’ve “failed” at relationships – thank you for pointing out Hillary Clinton’s failure to reach the top of her game, it gave me a different perspective on my Algol position.
I feel quite sorry for Medusa – she wasn’t originally a monster, she was a beauty. I must revisit her myth in detail.
Oh, and I kinda like snakes and get along with the non-poisonous ones quite well…
My last Solar Return has Algol exactly at my MC – and so has my son’s. I felt like running away when I saw that – but where to??
Quite a few astrologers are sceptical of the value of the SR, after all, it’s really just a transit, as are all planetary returns, with Saturn’s being the best known one.
So far, the time periods since our birthdays have been fairly horrible, but there HAVE been bright spots too. And the current storm going on among the planets apply to everyone that I know, and have nothing at all to do with Algol generally.

            • Did you know that at birth M. Antoinette’s parents had an astrologer do her chart ? And her astrologer was fearful about her future and literally said so ?
And if I recall, her father had his fears as well. The biography was by Anunziata Asquith, it’s out of print but can be bought used.

            • hi Doug,
Thanks for the reply about the comment I made to E.C.A.M. {further down the page…again I had the problem of no “reply” button to click on to answer your comment, so I traveled up the page here}.
For a while I did study astrology and wanted to be an astrologer, as you noticed when I said 10th house Uranus. That’s no surprise right ?!
              🙂
But the math bugged me. I didn’t have the desire/ability to get into just how complex astrological charts can be {as a perfectionist I’d want to know <<>> and knew that wasn’t possible}. I love reading about astrologers, I have Evangeline Adams and Sidney Omarr bios. Also have a collection of antique astrology books, which I adore as well as a ton of newer booksThanks for the compliment, I agree if you can be a natural with astrology or at least to some degree. As with anything.

I totally agree with what you said about not necessarily needing extensive education with everything. I’m mainly a self-taught artist. I’m also a small, home-based business entrepreuner, so yeah, you can do plenty without a degree specific to what you’re developing, without any formal training. I didn’t study business.
I was married to a Physicist who worked in high tech/chip design although he’d never studied it. He was in on the microchip industry when it first began. He has a Physics degree and just “became” a high tech engineer, by the seat of his pants so to speak, like all the other budding engineers back then when the industry was being invented.

Thanks also for the parenting compliment. I did try to be a good parent. I wasn’t always…failed in some respects but I did make sure my children could defend themselves {includes the martial arts}. Their father is from NYC, so they grew up more savvy than maybe some of their friends. I began studying astrology in order to understand my son when he was about 3 years old. He was more difficult and I wanted to understand him. It really did help,! his chart kind of blew my mind even though it was the first chart I ever really studied besides my own.
Just a partial on his birth chart – Sun and Mercury in Aquarius, Scorpio Ascendant, Pluto rising real close to the Ascendant line in the 12th house and square to his Sun, Mars rising in the first house {at least Mars is closer to his second house cusp than his Ascendant but still, it’s in the first house…}. That, all by itself without adding anything else, is like “poor kid” ! Saddled with all that !

            • hi Doug,
              Here’s the comment you addressed to me,{my answer is below it}
“Just saw your comment Anne .
I believe we all choose our lives , some souls go deep into the physical matter and it becomes depressed. Its still there , but it forgets its origins momentarily.
Some like you have some recall giving you an advantage I would say rather than like an automaton that only goes thru the motions of ‘ animated ‘ life and then death , and life and death and life and death….Consider yourself blessed that u have this awareness and self awareness I’m sure it was earned.
Most people don’t have charts loaded with grand trines.I don’t think.we would be here if we werent meant to face challenges. To me life on EARTH. ‘ is ‘ PURGATORY !!!
Here’s a book I want u to read. You will find it fascinating : Reincarnation by: Sylvia Cranston and Carey Williams ( a new horizon in science , religion , and society. )
P.S. if you want to see some challenging geometry look up Bruce Lee’s astrological biography ! Talk about tough ! (but I know you can be a ‘ tough mama meat shakin’ on the bone ‘ too if you have to.)Lol ♍👍Have a good day !”

              hi Doug,
Thanks, very nice of you ! I’m tempted to post my full birth data just for the heck of it but I’m already like a Narcisissist, all over this page, writing “I” this, “I” that….I – I – I, !!!
Being sensitive isn’t rare but yes, seems maybe some people aren’t so sensitive. Sensitivity’s a blessing but stress due to sensitivity is ongoing. I identify with the Victorians and their “fainting couches” ! ha ha.

Grand trines ? Who has “loads” of those, {me ?}.I think someone once said I have a T-Square but I can’t remember much about it.

Life on earth is “Purgatory”, that’s precisely what my mother used to say. Life here is also pretty cool in so many ways. The intangible is just as close any visible thing here as well.

Thanks for the book recommendation. How do you know I have recall ? Now my son, with Pluto in Scorpio in the 12th house, plus his Scorpio Ascendant would definitely be capable of recall. One of my favorite reincarnation books is “Raymond”. I’ve had dreams too. I’m not 100% convinced of anything, but I was very mediumistic until I stopped encouraging it. Not sure of the origin of where it really came from but the psychic and mediumistic experiences were usually really beautiful, breathtaking.

P.S. Buce Lee had lots of Scorpio, which makes sense. Scorpio is innovating, like Jimi Hendrix’s Mars in Scorpio, which might have been in his 10th house. But I couldn’t begin to see geometry in a chart ! I’m not a professional.
              🙂
P.S.S. ‘ tough mama meat shakin’ on the bone ‘ ?! What ?! Doesn’t sound very dignified.
Despite the more concerning areas of my birth chart, I gravitate to the arts, spirituality, book collecting, film, poetry,Europe, pets, gardens and flower-growing, time spent alone. I’m overly polite.Introspective. I’m no Girl Scout, but usually someone has to really, really be “asking for it” for me to show much temper, and even then I might not get overly angry.

            • “I think anyone that has an interest in metaphysics has a conscious or unconscious notion of some sort of universal source even at a basic level as u say with your astrology.. I think ‘ martial arts have a lot of metaphysical discipline in their ‘ethics’ rules.😄”

              Hi Doug,
I’m not trained in martial arts though. My ex and my kids are. I was initiated in Reiki healing, but that’s about all, and I rarely use that anymore. Sure, a Universal source, probably there is.

          • Hi Char,
Oh yes I know the positions have been there all my life. But in every Algol tragedy, same deal right ? The person was “fine”, up until the Algol was activated.
I’m still convinced it’s not the best to have 26 degree Taurus Sun in the 8th and the 26 degrees Scorpio cusp on the 8th.

I know about transformations, I agree with you. I’ve been aware of that for most of my life. I really like transformations.

            • Hi Anne ; I know lots of the aristocracy had their ‘ soothsayer ‘ sleuths.I think the future is the only thing that is somewhat malliable. That’s what Cayce said , and no doubt some of his prognostications didn’t come out exactly as planned about the future .No one has a chart without challenges , but therve been times I thought maybe joining a monestary might not be such a bad idea for awhile ! ( hehe )That’s might have been good advice for the New Zealand shooter. ( going thru his ist saturn return , 29 yrs.old.Some life paradigm shift to go thru huh ?)

        • Hello Anne, what a coincidence, I also have Sun at 26 degrees Taurus, conjunct MC. No other aspects. Isolated, only Sun, Algol, MC conjunct. Having a difficult life, with Uranus/Pluto conjunct ascendant in opposition with Saturn on descendant. Always nervous stress and anxiety. Helas! Poor me!

          • hi E.C.A.M.,
Conjunct the MC sounds interesting though. Wonder what things you’re drawn to as a career.

Uranus and Pluto both Conjunct your Ascendant ? Sorry to hear it’s been hard on you. Sounds like it could be used as an advantage too, though. No other aspects, do you mean to your Sun, ?

My son has Pluto rising, in the 12th house. Scorpio Ascendant too, {!} so I get an idea about your rising Pluto somewhat from that.
He tended to be a magnet for idiots while growing up, but it still happens once in a great while, even now that he’s a young adult {his Pluto being in the 12th}. It mostly worked out OK {other than the stress and annoyance}, he stayed away from fights if he could, and if he couldn’t well he was Kung Fu trained, so not many worries thanks to that. Just don’t tell it to everyone if you do have skills. The element of surprise helps.

A rising Uranus might be hard on the nerves. But you’d be original, the Pluto would give the intensity to further it. But opposed by Saturn, oh yes “poor you” indeed. I have Saturn doing similar, serious things in my solar chart for the year {in fact I wondered if I’d survive this coming year}. I saw that and thought, ohhhh, effing GREAT {!}.
Since it’s Saturn on your Descendant, sorry what effect that must have on relationships, ?, with the other planets aiming at it too.

You qualify as a “Uranian” and a Plutonian” from what I’ve heard so far, {I’m not a professional astrologer but if I remember what I read, certain planets in angular houses create that}.
            Try being a Neptunian {1st house}, Plutonian{10th}, and Uranian {10th}, it’s even crazier.
Hard to decide day to day who to be,
            🙂

            • Hi Ann ! I spotted your comment.I felt compelled to comment on it :
I think your interpretations are very good ! , and I think you have an intuition for astrology. You have Uranus it’s ruler in the 10 th ( hmmm ?) , maybe your an astrologer by definition.
I read a biography one time about Thomas Edison .I don’t think he had a formal education or a college degree. No doubt one would help , but u still have to have the interest and drive. My parents were honor students , neither one ever made a lot of money. My mothers brother dropped out of school at a young age and became master automobile mechanic. Without much formal education. When they changed over the ‘ guts ‘ and computerized everything he went back to school and studied it. I was a bottom feeder academically , but I did much better , but I studied subjects I was interested in ; always !
              It sounds like you’ve given your son a good mental foundation ! ( that’s good parenting ! ) ♍😄

            • Just saw your comment Anne .
I believe we all choose our lives , some souls go deep into the physical matter and it becomes depressed. Its still there , but it forgets its origins momentarily.

            • Hi Anne ‘ the ‘ meat shakin on the bone ‘ is a line from an old Bob Dylan song.I meant it as a figure of speech in reference to something you said in a story about you and your family where you said someone asked who was the toughest , and your family without hesitation pointed at you.It was meant to be a ‘tongue in cheek ‘ compliment , not meant in an insulting way at all..
I think anyone that has an interest in metaphysics has a conscious or unconscious notion of some sort of universal source even at a basic level as u say with your astrology.. I think ‘ martial arts have a lot of metaphysical discipline in their ‘ethics’ rules.😄

  37. If you noticed Char Edgar Cayce and Albert Einstein. had theirs conjunct Pluto.2 people with some of the most’ far out and far reaching ideas of all time ! like the metaphor that Jamie used about the Medussa.” You cut off one head and another one grows back ! ‘ (Sounds like one of the vortices of the ‘ collective ‘ almost . ) I work with a lot of exotics , and snakes don’t bother me.I see them by my house all the time.I know all the species and I’m not afraid to pick them up.They are welcome on my property . Fear of them is just .caused by mythologocal bias. Knowledge is the enemy of fear and brings light to all things ! One of the things I forecast for the Pluto in Aquarius transit is I think Astrology will lose its status as a ‘ pseudo ‘ science. Have a good day!
    Doug ♍

    • I noticed that Johnny Depp ( mercury / Venus) Robert De Niro ( mars) , Nancy Pelosi ( mars ) have these on Donald Trumps midheaven.
      # 1 made a negative public comment that alluded to Abramam Lincoln.# 2.a negative public comment about ‘ punching ‘ him in the face.# 3 I’m not sure of any open public comments , but leads the party that no doubt has advocated impeachment.
Here are 3 public figures. that spoke in a figurative way.( I’m sure ) that almost seems like a ‘ Rico Act ‘.
This should bring pause to anyone. ; that words ‘ carry ‘ weight especially for public figures and that comments like these being ‘ they’ are
‘ powerful’ people increases the ‘chasm ‘ between their maturity as adults and the immaturity of their words and or inclinations of thought.
In America we have one of the best systems in the world ! its called democracy. If you don’t like someone vote them out ! ( that way we can all keep our ‘ heads ‘ !!! ) have a good day ! ♍

      • You can’t vote anyone out. You can only vote for someone, not against them.

Voting because you don’t like a politician? People benefit all the time from parties, systems, and elected politicians that they don’t like. On the flip side, if a politician is a liar, ignores the Constitution, and is flagrantly immoral, you can like that person, but vote for someone with better qualities.

So I say: vote for good people who care for their fellow human beings, even if those who aren’t in their “party”.

        • A vote ‘for’ is a vote ‘ against ‘.You don’t have to vote ‘ block ‘ politics. If you don’t like a candidate you vote for the other one.
Besides that I was talking about ‘ Algol ‘ symbolism useing a political example.
Sorry if my point was misconstrued.
.I don’t care who people vote for.
I don’t want this to digress into a political argument.
Any talk of suggesting physical harm to a president is immoral to me whatever party they belong to ; however.♍

          • We all know who you’re trumpeting.

No one but you brought up physical harm to a president.

            • Kathy Griffin also with her effigy stunt. And I just mentioned 2 of three that did or it was implied.Robert Deniro and Johnny Depp.( watch the news clips. )
Nancy Pelosi .daughters comment about her mother ‘ cutting off your head before u know u are bleeding ‘( defer to the news video. )
I think she has a planet on Algol also.
These are people on Jamie’s list above where I made a connection stringing comments they made with ‘ Algol ‘ symbolism. These are ‘objective’factual public statements and have no connection to a persons political affiliation. You may gleen ‘ what u want. ( Back at you ) CASE CLOSED !!!!

    • Doug, I hadn’t noticed that Edgar Cayce and Albert Einstein had Pluto on Algol. Interesting. They were both Pisceans too.

      • I was born May 17th, with my Sun in the 8th house. Sun in 26 degrees of Taurus with the 8th house cusp in same 26 degrees of Taurus ! Kind of unsettling, but I don’t focus on it too much.

        • I forgot to add, Pluto squares my Sun as well. Pluto rules Scorpio, and both rule the 8th house where all the Algol is going on in my chart ! Pluto for me is in the most angular {strong} house, the 10th….giving it even more power. Gad.

          • You sound pretty evolved Ann ! I think that’s the key ! Have a good day ! : )

            • hi Doug,
              Thank you,
Evolved ? Why or how ? Because of the Algol and Pluto and so on ?
I’m more “scared’ than evolved !, with such heavy emphasis on Algol in my chart, focused on the 8th house.

I try to be evolved. Neptune in Scorpio is rising right next to and almost on top of my Ascendant line, I read somewhere that brings a desire for evolvement, maybe the 8th house Sun does as well. Probably explains why mundane life bothers me so much. I’m an artist. My subjects are dreams, spirits, unexplained things, portraits, nature and other things.

Anyway, I hope I survive the Algol. I’ve had many near-misses throughout my life, as far as my safety is concerned. I try to stay safe and not take chances.

            • Anne, Doug’s comment that you appear to be “evolved” is something that had occurred to me too. The fact that you’re an artist, and the subjects you paint, make me think perhaps you’re one of the people who have managed to tap into the positive aspects of Algol. Note what Jamie says (quoting Elsbeth Ebertin) about the “high spiritual rays” that come from Algol too!

Click on the Diana Rosenberg’s (“Medusa’s Head” link as well, it’s a good article. I found it very comforting when I first discovered – quel horreur!! – where my Algol was.

        • Hi Annie ! The last sentence in the 2nd to last paragraph tells me everything. That would relate nicely to your Scorpio / Neptune rising.I think Jim Carry has that also ; so if that equates to talent I would say u have alot.( probably quite a sense of humor also ! )
Your.interests are those of a ‘ seeker ‘and you are interested in the deeper meanings of life. ( 8th house Sun ).Pluto in the 10th ‘ is’ a ‘ Power’ placement and relates to your’ Scorpio /Neptune asc.(Pluto) ruler and with 8th house Sun .A square to Pluto with your Sun would have to be really tight ( like zero degrees almost.) If it is , then Pluto in your 10th might indicate a potential for a possible abuse of power in some way.
By evolved I mean that it looks like u are utilizing your energy in a ‘ creative way and for a more nobel purpose ( self growth ).I think that’s the most mature way to use that energy. ) Have a nice day ! 🙂

          • hi Doug,
I wrote you a huge reply, then LOST IT ! Hit awrong button or something, it disappeared.Aaauuuggghhh ! I’ll try to re-write it soon,!!!

            🙁

            • Happens all the time ! I think this merc.retro. is screwing with me.2twice this week I paid for gas at the cashier , and drove off without pumping the gas in. !!! ( duh) that never happens to me.Then yesterday I bought a bag of food and forgot to take it home.I left it by vendor’s booth .behind a table and thought it was safe.I went to get it this morning and someone must have heisted it over night.( oy vey . )♍

          • Thank you Doug, I wrote nearly an essay in reply and like I said earlier, I deleted the dang thing accidentally and it didn’t get posted.

So I’ll make a shorter statement. I agree I mainly handle my energies through art and you’re right about being concerned about the deeper meaning of things. Very much so.

But I admit, I still do {rarely} flip out. Then all the Pluto is very evident. Thankfully it never got me arrested. Yes Pluto in the 10th house. That’s a “dictator placement”. Mainly what used to trigger all that was anything related to defending my children, especially during their school years. I’m older now, and a lot of what used to trigger that is either gone or changed {children are grown, for example}. I’m less of a hot head/less inclined to be drawn into things these days, but I used to be a legend.
            🙂

            • There’s an old German saying : ” too old , too soon , too late , too smart .”
I could have drowned 2twice , ( I’m not a very good swimmer. ) I was lucky each time I was with a powerful swimmer that ‘ shagged’ me back to dry land.I was younger and more carefree.I’m surprised I survived at all sometimes , but with age sometimes wisdom follows , and now I’m just a passive observer rather than a willing participant.
Now if I can get through the eye of a needle on that back of a camel., that would be great !

      • Ya Char. ; Pisces has that sensitivity thing goining on naturally..With Cayce it was a spiritual thing ( which makes sense.) , but with Einstein it was more ‘ corporeal ” , but even so the Pisces influence still seems to manifest and have an ‘ ethereal ‘ quality to his work.I think he was a pretty good violinist also ! Pisces is a very musical sign. After reading about so much of this stuff much of my life has made me conclude that when these physicists find the last smallest particle .; they’ll discover what we already know.It will be the ‘ God ‘ particle ( ie LOVE !! ) Have a good day ! : )

        • Hey Doug,
All the latest replies I get here, there’s no “reply” button for me to respond back ! Would you know why ?

So I am answering here, the post you made just below a post you wrote to me, just so I can use a “reply” button !

I was going to say, yes, isn’t it awful when you spend time writing a reply then somehow it practically disappears on it’s own. I’m sure I did something spastic but what a tragedy ! I spent quite a while answering what you said about my Pluto/Sun square !

LOL, those 2 examples you gave of Merc retro were really funny {sorry !}. Reminds me of the time I bought a huge bag of paper cat litter and left it right outside the store on the curb.
Went back to get from the inside the store where they were keeping it for me, {someone turned it in},there was a message taped on the bag “paid for it, left it outside on curb”. LOL.
I sent a photo of the message to people I knew and I told them “story of my life” !!!

          • Hi Anne again ! I m glad you were entertained by my story.I have Venus conjunct Neptune conjunct exact natally , so I tend to be more mystified and observant philosophical about life .( Sometimes I feel.like an alien visiting another planet.) I just feel like asking some people to ‘ take me to your leader ‘.I want to find out about this interesting planet.’These’ Venus / neptune also conjunct Spica , Arcturus, and Ceres.Nice hearing from u.I’ve found there are several people that comment on this site that have very legitimate astrological interests ; it’s refreshing to read ‘ ‘ ‘you guyses ” thoughts ! Have a good weekend ! ♍

      • Hi Char,
I had to come up the thread to reply – for some reason any time now I get a comment there’s no reply button under it and I can’t post anything. Would you know why ?

        Here is your nice comment – I’ll post a reply directly under it;

“Anne, Doug’s comment that you appear to be “evolved” is something that had occurred to me too. The fact that you’re an artist, and the subjects you paint, make me think perhaps you’re one of the people who have managed to tap into the positive aspects of Algol. Note what Jamie says (quoting Elsbeth Ebertin) about the “high spiritual rays” that come from Algol too!”

Click on the Diana Rosenberg’s (“Medusa’s Head” link as well, it’s a good article. I found it very comforting when I first discovered – quel horreur!! – where my Algol was.

        hi Char,
Thank you very much. That was really nice. I’ve always been sensitive, intuitive too, and yes the subjects I paint are no accident. I have mediumistic ability, I’ve had all sorts of psychic experiences too. That sort of thing.
A sibling died when I was 12, {almost 13}. Another sibling was in Vietnam, and I knew my whole family expected he might be killed {during the entire 2 years he spent in the war}. I was in gradeschool at the time.
My life has been heavily imbued with certain subjects that are represented in astrology.

I didn’t realize Algol can possibly make a person negative {as dumb as that sounds}, I didn’t realize it. So when people say “evolved” I didn’t realize that could be lucky. I only thought my Algol meant danger. {Which I still believe is possible anyway}.
I do have the square between the Sun and Pluto. 8th house Sun, 10th house Pluto {the dictator placement for Pluto}. I found out when I got older I had a certain “aura” ,many people perceived me as “tough”. I prefer being refined. I guess people sense something though. I tend to be serious, but smile easily. Imagine Saturn in the 3rd house, with Sag on the cusp ! I don’t know whether to look stern/put on a front or crack a joke,ha ha.
        🙂
Anyway, whether it’s Algol or the Pluto or all the Scorpio, I’m seen as tough and/or get looks from people as if I seem dodgy/not to be trusted. I care a lot for my appearance ! So it’s not that. My eyes are almost black and my hair is dark, long and thick. People think I’m Italian, or “something” as one man put it.

Here’s a funny story that illustrates what I mean. It happened years ago. My children, as well as my {now ex} spouse, are martial artists. I’m the only one who doesn’t know how to fight. Keep in mind too, I’m of middle height, slender build, polite and sensitive. Don’t look like a big thug lady or anything.
OK, so my children were still dressed in their martial arts uniforms, it was after their class was over.Their father was trained in Kung Fu, and looks tough. As we all walked along, another child around my kid’s ages {about 10 or 11 years old} called out to us as we walked by “WHICH ONE’S THE TOUGHEST” ?! , obviously referring to my 2 children in their martial arts uniforms. Instantly though, my kids and my husband, as if on cue, all quickly turned and pointed at ME. What floored me was how none of them hesitated, it was as if they’d rehearsed it or something. And they weren’t joking.

Where is your Algol at ? You mentioned in other words,it’s a little worrisome ?

Thanks for the mention of the link too. I’ll have a look !

        • Hi Anne
I’ve also noticed that the “Reply” link disappears on some comments. I think it happens when a comment is too far into a hierarchy of posts, ie. reply reply reply appears six times, then its missing on the seventh comment.
          Maybe?

You’ve had it difficult, no doubt. Do you think Algol was involved each time?
Algol is always dangerous. It’s just sometimes difficult to predict when she’ll zap you (SHE because that’s Medusa’s eye!).
The way you describe yourself, it’s difficult to tell what comes from Algol and what comes from Scorpio. I think Algol reinforces the Scorpio. The fact that you’re recognised as the toughest is not surprising at all – you’re the one who doesn’t NEED the martial arts to prove anything at all. All you have to do is look at someone in a certain way and they’ll wilt. Medusa’s gaze had the power to turn people into stone…
I know about Scorpio. Pluto is conjunct my Sun, I have quite a bit in the 8th house, and Scorpio is rising.
I’ve heard about Algol being a scorpionic star, mine is right on my Desc.
People have said about me that I’m “not afraid of the dark”. Maybe that’s because my Sun shines into Pluto’s darkness and illuminates all the bogeymen and turns them into wimps.

I looked at Marie Antoinette chart (she who told the people to eat cake seeing that they had no bread – I’ll bet that story’s apocryphal!). She’s on AstroDataBank and I put her onto my personal list of charts at astro.com.
Only one little asteroid is at Algol in her chart, but it’s called Moira which is Greek for fate.
But Diana Rosenberg says Algol is so powerful that she can influence via other aspects than the conjunction. Jupiter is sesquiquadrate to Algol (and we know her luck was ultimately rather bad). Saturn is trine Algol and Uranus is quintile to her and her Part of Fortune is sextile – all of these within a zero-degree orb. Within Jamie’s orb factor of 2 degrees are an opposition from the Vertex and a trine from Pallas.
Just for interest’s sake, the Queen Consort has a packed 5th house in Libra and Scorpio so it’s little wonder that she was pleasure-loving! But I guess you know most of that. Her Moon in the 5th house is on fixed star Spica, Vesta is on Regulus, the most royal star.

Doug mentioned Ann-Margret on this page too – she has Moon, Jupiter and Uranus conjunct Algol. She had a terrible 22-foot fall from the stage, broke her arm and all the bones in her face (Uranus) and healed in record time (Uranus sextile Pluto). Check out her chart, it’s very interesting! Because she was born so far north, all her main planets, except Neptune and Pluto, are in her enormous 12th house that spans more than 120 degrees. Her Asc-Desc axis is on the opposing stars of Aldebaran and Antares.

Then there’s also something about Kathy Griffin and her effigy of The Donald’s head, I think also posted by Doug? I did a chart for the incident. Algol is right at the top of the chart near (but not conjunct) Mercury. There’s a yod from Saturn sextile Part of Fortune, with Algol at the Apex!

Now, I think this post is QUITE long enough – don’t you??

            • For some reason, I took a look at Roger Smith’s chart (Ann-Margret’s hubby). He has Lilith, Chiron and Vesta on Algol in his 7th house! It was a VERY happy and devoted marriage.
Roger was in a serious car accident with head injuries, but there is no (visible) connection with Algol there, I might find time to dig into that a bit more – on the day he had surgery after the accident though, tr Lilith was con Algol and tr Chiron was square to it. His Pluto is sextile to Algol, and his Moon on Regulus squares Algol.
There’s a lot more, but I find it all gets a bit confusing when I list it instead of looking at a chart.
Interesting that you link Pluto / collective / Akashic records. Well, of course the records are imbedded in everyone’s subconscious. From the time when I was a teenager, I’ve felt that I had easy access to at least the top layer of my subconscious, so I guess that was Sun con Pluto at work.
I haven’t worked with Vesta much, I believe she’s linked with Scorpio as well, so maybe I’ll take a closer look because she keeps cropping up lately. Oh, I just saw she’s quincunx my Desc/Algol!
What do you mean by the expression “owning the farm”? I’m not familiar with the expression.

            • Hi char , you are so thourogh ! That’s the way to do research !
I don’t make the connection with vesta at all with Scorpio.
I may be wrong , but the best word I come up with is devotion. ( ie if your vesta fell on someone’s Sun , you would have an instinctive feeling of devotion for that individual. ) So far that’s how it comes across to me.it’s not necessarily an emotional.thing , more of like .having an unconditional ‘ trust ‘. I would use vesta as an adjective. When black lilith is triggered this is a place where there is no compromise. Its rebellion for the sake of rebellion , whatever it contacts in a synestry it will be automatically against it almost by instinct.
              lilith , Chiron , vestsa , algol
.in the 7th conjunct her Sun.It seems the vesta makes sense there ( devotion ) , each seemed to be in a position to nurse one another at times ( Chiron maybe ? ) , not sure how black lilith fits in.Looks like a complex relationship.
‘ Owning the farm ‘ I’s an expression that means : ‘others have to do bidding to an individual ‘ ‘
I use it as a metaphor with Pluto as well as Uranus and Neptune.this is how I illustrate : Useing Pluto as an example here conjunct Sun.Because Pluto moves so slow as the days go by many people will be born without Pluto hardly haveing moved at all.So the Sun person is going to meet many that ‘have the same Pluto generational placement. They will be attracted to the Pluto / Sun person like moths to a flame.Does that make sense ?

            • Doug, I tend to agree with you in not seeing an obvious connection between Vesta and Scorpio. I got that from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_asteroids_in_astrology#Vesta, where it’s said: “It also seems to bear influence over Scorpio”.
The only link I can see is Scorpio – Pluto – Hades – hell-fire – but Hades was a COLD place, where does Vesta’s altar flame fit into that??
Isn’t Hestia the Greek version of Vesta, and didn’t Hestia leave earth in a huff over humanity’s foibles, making room for Dionysus in the pantheon of 12 gods? (I may have all this completely wrong…).
I don’t think I’m one of Sun-con-Pluto’s owning the farm types. Venus in Cancer and Libra on my 11th house cusp make me a bit more compliant than is quite comfortable, though I’ve at least learned to stand up for myself in my old age! I think I use the conjunction to shine light into dark corners, and in going to considerable depth if a subject truly interest me. (BTW the conjunction is in house 9).
I think I can see how I use my Vesta. She’s in my 11th house, and I know instinctively on first meeting whether or not I can trust them. And Lilith tells me, also instinctively, whether I should RUN from someone. The only times I’ve ever gone wrong was when I ignored their messages.
I’ve learned a great deal from your comments here, Doug. Thank you!

          • I’ve known some people with Sun / Pluto conjunct.Pluto is the collective ( akashic records and all that. ) People with the Sun conjunct ‘ own the farm ‘, and their life seems to be Pluto themed. ( Jerry Garcia ‘ Grateful Dead ‘ ) one example.
‘ Vesta in my research so far seems to indicate a type of devotion to the planet that triggers it in synestry.( if it’s mercury themed then it means lots of communication as an example and the ‘ vesta’ person lends support to the. ‘ideas ‘ of the other person.( notice ; vesta is the root for the word investment. )
When Pluto transited my n node I had a lot of weird ‘ stream of consciousness ‘ conversations with people , and was made aware of a lot of ‘ synchronistic ‘ connections I had with people. ( superconscious brought up to the conscious level. ) of course aware of .’ this ‘ transit I was looking for it , it was a very interesting time indeed.
Interestingly , once it was over I seem to be able to access it easier , but it’s not as forthright as it was when it was transiting the vortice of my node.
Eric Burdon with a lot of planets on Algol always sang those deep ‘ blusy ‘ types of songs not that light stuff like the Beatles. ( have a good day enjoyed your post ! ) ♍

          • Hi Char , in response to your last comment : A cancer Venus would mitigate some of the Sun / Pluto heaviness for sure , because it by itself would be a very nurturing placement , and Libra tends to ‘ weigh ‘ things before they act , a good quality to have.A lot of people tend to ‘ leap ‘ before the ‘ look ‘
The black lilith thing : I’m hearkening to an individual that has his at 3 degrees on my 2 degree Scorpio moon.
In certain areas it seems he is hell bent on destroying me emotionally , I’m pretty tough so when we get into discourse on certain subjects I can point out fa ct after fact , but nothing registers. He will shout , call me all sorts of names … work overtime to embarrass me in front of groups.I’ve known him since we were 4 years old. Finally usually he will concede that I make good points , but never totally., ( it’s a rebellion thing for the sake of rebelling , see ? ) but it’s ok I’m better than a lawyer defending my points. It frustrates him WAY more than it does me..So I’m just using one example ., however you know the mythology of it she didn’t want to submit that’s why I m using that metaphor.
I have to do more research on vesta
but I tend to use my chart as my ‘ guinea pig ‘ and that’s how the energy seems to work in synestries with me when it’s triggered..If I recall.’ Vesta’ doesn’t really have any ‘ procreative ‘ connotation which I would attribute more to Scorpio energy
I may be wrong.I only go by my own observation. You guys are pretty good too ( .Ditto ! : )

            Doug Chiron

            • That’s a detailed and dramatic description of Lilith, Doug! A very good teaching example. I’m going to need to check my Lilith against everyone I know; some things about hostility towards me, and perceived hostility by me towards others, may just stop being mystifying to me.

Using your own chart as your guinea pig makes perfect sense to me – I do that too.

The more I think about Vesta and Scorpio, the less likely it seems to me that there’s a fit. UNLESS – didn’t the Vestal Virgins in ancient Rome act as custodians of wills, and that’s an 8th house issue. Seems a bit contrived to me… Although the Vestals weren’t all virgins, they undertook to remain chaste for 30 years, and that’s SERIOUSLY un-Scorpionic, isn’t it.

            • Hi char. , I’m the 1st to admit that I’m not the biggest expert on Greek Mythology.
I do believe this however ; that the plays , stories , and God’s were human metaphors for the personality traits of the planet’s , stars , asteroids …they probably learned about these things from more eastern cultures like the babylonians and Hindus .
who were very well versed in ‘ cosmic ‘ connections. The plays and such were sort of like taking this ‘ cosmic ‘ stuff and setting it to music to help illustrate it to the masses better.Sort of like when Jesus taught the law of karma to the masses he used the metaphor of ‘ what we sow , we will reap.’ It was more of a familiar concept to the masses he was preaching to.Cayce called it : ‘ tit for tat ‘
I have a lot of earth : Taurus asc. , Sun., mercury , Virgo , ( 5th ) Mars , n.node Capricorn 9th ) Chiron Capricorn ( 10th ) So I like to water it down and make it as simplistic as possible example : Venus conjunct. Pluto : (obsessive love ) would be one way of looking at that combo.(The movie Fatal attraction comes to mind. ) but on a higher vibration it could mean a love ( obsessive ) of a quest for answers to the undercurrents of life.It just depends how the person is using the energy.
The Vegas shooter : they have no official public motivation released for his deed , but you could tell me by focusing on just this one hint ill tell you.
All.the planets associated with females are afflicted ; especially his mother. If you add some of the asteroids and fixed stars you could probably get even more detail , which I did not do.
By the way about the Trump exoneration I defer you to my comment about his relationship with Mueller at the REGALUS blog a couple of weeks ago .considering the outcome I think you’ll find it interesting
I saw that Juno / Regulus / Sun thing with your significant other.Sounds like you treat each other Royaly ! ( have a good day ! )♍

    • hi Doug,
I had no way to reply {strange} to your reply about Annunziata Asquith’ sbook on M. Antionette, and the fact the astrologer and her father both feared for her, before she ever left her homeland. I wouldn’t pass it of fas mere soothsaying, and all. I think it was quite remarkable. The astrologer was seriously worried about her. I forgt whether the father had a psychic reason to be worried or of he believed the astrologer, but in any case, it was a very interesting bit of information.
Yeah, we all have LOL, “challenges”. But really.

      • Hi Anne , I have to apologize I didn’t really look at M.Antoinettes chart.I just glanced at it to see if there were any planet’s conjunct Algol. That was the research I was interested in at the moment , and trying to make the point that Algol.doesn’t necessarily mean an automatic. ‘ physical.’ beheading ; it could be ‘ metaphorical ‘ .
My intension wasn’t meant to dismiss the validity of the court astrologers concerns or. analysis made by him or her.
I believe she had a lot of Scorpio.Scorpio at its best is great for doing research , because they generally have a lot of stamina for staying focused at finding answers to problems.Which can also take them into the not so benign areas of life at times. ( Lieutenant Joe Kenda pops into my mind right now. ) hehe. )
Scorpio used at its .’ base ‘ energy operational level can bring about some of the tougher negative Scorpio traits to deal with.
Scorpio or people wth lots of Scorpio have a lot of natural volatility.

        • I’m sorry too, if I sounded cranky, don’t apologize !
          🙂
I’ve read a lot about M. Antoinette {this time I spelled the name correctly – hate typos !}, reading that interesting tidbit electrified me. Gawd ! An astrologer basically called it before she ever left Austria.

As for Scorpio she had Sun and Venus in that sign. Pluto in….6th house,{!} 6th house Scorpio cusp {!} Saturn in the 8th. Terrible , I think can represent fear, yes ? Saturn can indicate fear. No wonder. And Mars was in opposition. That poor woman.

I don’t know Kenda but could look him up. I’ve got Jupiter in Scorpio, Neptune rising in Scorpio, Scorpio overlay on my Sun because it’s in the 8th, Pluto in the most angular house giving 8 aspects to planets including Asc and MC.

I’ve read Scorpio “walks the razors edge between good and evil”. I believe it. I’ve known some very
Scorpionic people. That ain’t no picnic. I think even Scorpio types who “seem” to be on a higher level/evolved could open a can of you-know-what any time – it just takes the right situation.

So you have Neptune conjunct Venus. That’s lovely, I’m jealous !

          • Hi Anne !
You have Jupiter conjunct Neptune ( I’m jealous ! ) hehe ) Where is your N.Node ? That would tell you A lot about your ‘ life path.’
M.Antoinettes astrologers were probably looking at her mars opposition saturn in the 8th as : some type of. ‘ judgement ‘ (
saturn ) possibly by a ‘ male ‘ or a. ‘ male ‘ific type energy ( aggression perhaps ? )Sometimes you have to plug in different synonyms to see which ones fit best ie ( Saturn could mean discipline , judgement ,shrinkage , fear , I suppose. , study …) It might be more interesting to find out if her executioner had anything on her ‘ Algol ‘ Hmm ?
            Have a good day!
            Doug Chiron

            • Anne and Doug, please excuse me for barging into your conversation—I’m thinking that since the French Revolution was a national event in which more than 16,0000 people were beheaded, perhaps an investigation into Algol’s relation to contemporaneous transits in France’s birth chart might reveal the larger themes at work during that time?

            • Very interesting Elle !
I hope for the most part we’ ve grown beyond that ; although in some parts of the world it still seems to be an accepted practice ; other than that it kind of puts a pall over what I think of when I think of France. ( kind of takes the romance out of it. )

      • One last point Annie .Transiting Pluto in Capricorn will be Making a trine aspect to your natal Sun/Algol soon which is going to be a transit that should be empowering. It will be a long transit also. : )

        • Thank you so much !
Sounds very helpful AND interesting. I’m single ! Sun trine Pluto ?! Sounds REAL good ! LOL ! Thank you to Pluto ! LOL ! {LMAO}. Seriously though, thanks, that’s a real good aspect !

I do as much scouring as I can. I order several different astrology reports every year, I compute my aspect hit lists with software that I have. I compute different chart wheels, lunar charts and so on. I like the way you wrote “Sun/Algol. I knew the degree of course, but to put the words back to back makes it really stand out. I hadn’t fully realized something about my Sun despite knowing the degree and what house already. “Sun/Algol”. Oh my God. That’s unnerving. Now I’m on another freak out. Will be researching all that all over again. I love astrology !

          • The trine indicates that it should be a relatively smooth transformative period , but don’t let ‘ empowerment ‘ become.’ Overpowerment ‘ For a natal square Pluto your natal Pluto had to be in Leo probably conjunct or near Regulus the ‘ royal star ‘which in and of itself is good , but don’t let its’ grandiosity ‘ overpower you.Always remember to be humble , and don’t use the ‘ good ‘ transits to be exploitive of others. This natal square is probably what your family meant when they pointed at you and said ‘ you ‘ were the tough one.” The wise person rules their stars. ”
Astrology is just a road map it suggests our inclinations , but it’s your free will decision what road your going to take..By the way Ann Margaret has a lot of Algol planets and she made out pretty good ! I think her Sun is there also , and she even played an ‘ artist ‘ in the movie ‘GRUMPY OLD MEN ‘ ! Have a good day : )
            Doug Chiron ♍

            • hi Doug,
No, my Pluto is in Virgo, not Leo. It’s in the 10th house. My only Leo planet is Uranus.

I don’t have Jupiter conjunct Neptune ! Sounds lovely though. But I do have Neptune conjunct my Ascendant, plus Venus trine Neptune, Saturn sextile Neptune.

You asked where my North Node is. It’s in my 12th house, in 12 degrees of Libra. It has to do with my life path ? I’d love to hear what you think ! If it helps, my 12th cusp is 2 degrees of Libra and my 1st house cusp is 27 degrees of Libra {Libra N. Node cradled in between those 2 Libra cusps}.

You said don’t be exploitive and stay humble…I’m not usually, or even unusually, exploitive of anyone ! Egad, I might have stuff like Algol conjunct my Sun and a Pluto square to my Sun, but my morals are high. With all the Virgo I have {Moon and Pluto}, I’m pretty critical of myself and tend to reevaluate things regularly {take stock,self-awareness}. Got 2 planets in Cancer, 2 in Scorpio, Neptune rising. I’m sensitive to people. I prefer keeping things polite and being a decent person. I can’t stand bad manners, uncouth individuals or conflict {Libra rising}. I can forgive and forget. Not everyone does.

            • Also, I’m talking in terms of Western astrology, in everything I speak of. Thanks,
              🙂

            • Hi Anne ! Its been awhile so I think I was just gaugeing where your planets were located by some of the things that you mentioned in your natal chart.Apparently I was wrong , as you’ve given some more specific information now , I apologize for any misinterpretation I may have made.I’m sure you’re a fine person .I always thought you were ! 👍

  38. Reading about Mars and Algol on Marjorie Orr’s website made me wonder about my ex-boyfriend’s native Mars and Algol and led me here – sadly, they were close enough (2 degrees) and seemed to contribute to the more brutal, violent parts of his personality, as well as his attraction to alcohol and drugs (tho he did have other aspects for this, such as a grand water trine, a Jupiter-Neptune as well as a likely a Moon-Saturn opposition).
He also has Jupiter in Taurus, not close enough for a conjunction but seemingly protective; he had great physical skills and never got sick, to the point of having no empathy for anyone who might be ill.
However, when transiting Saturn opposed his Jupiter several years ago, he was diagnosed with tongue cancer, which meant that he needed horrible throat surgery to remove everything, and lost the ability to eat and talk normally. Thankfully his great stamina allowed him to survive multiple surgeries, and he recovered the rest of his health, although he will never be the same again.
When I also read about Capulus, a nearby star, giving defective eyesight, I was again struck, as he was born with terrible eyesight, corrected only with the thickest eyeglasses. Jupiter may have prevented him from going blind altogether.

  39. Interesting ! I pulled some other charts and whether figuratively or literally it seems like there’s a connection with the neck up in some way.
Bill Clinton has the Sun regulus conjunction with Monica Lewinskys Venus there. His moon is at about 20 degrees Taurus too wide for the conjunction , he almost lost the ‘ head ‘ position in government , but not quite.Kathy Griffin has her moon near his.She almost lost her career with the’ effigy ‘ stunt , but not quite. She also had plastic surgery done on her face I believe.
Liberace was into some bizzare facial plastic surgery stuff also.He was a Taurus.
Ill have to look up his chart.

  40. Had a few girlfriends in High school. One was a May 16. Sank her tooth in the helmut one night. Still have the mark, 40 years later. She moved away and became a nurse. Why am I sharing this? Because you may wish to consider other parts of parts of the body

      • What actually happened when I was 17, is my May 16 gf vaccinated me from the hazardous effects of Algol. Anyone considering the USA sibly Progreseed chart, and what was going down in the first few weeks of March 1777, may wish to ponder on this.

  41. I vote for policies. , not politicians. As we’ve seen recently too many follow the media ‘ blitz ‘ ( Jussie Smollet situation comes to mind.) , only to have to walk their comments back when the facts come in.
Politicians have always spoken out of both sides of their mouths , depending on what focal group their addressing . It is only more front and center today because of the way it communicates thru social media. I had spoken to many people during and after the 2016 election of all races , creeds and colors that voted for Donald Trump , because they didn’t like their option. So their vote ‘ for’ translated as a vote against.
    Will he still be the ‘ head ‘ ‘ Algol ‘ in 2020 ? Time will tell.Have a good day !♍

    • 2020 winner winner chicken dinner depends on who Putin wants in the presidency. Putin’s chart should be analyzed to see how he feels on the day of the election, and on the inauguration day. I’m serious.

          • There must be another reason why he won the election then ? See if you can give me an astrological answer .I would like to learn from you ! ( Aspirin is spelled with one ‘ S ‘) by the way . Better take 2 of them and call a spelling teacher. I wouldn’t want you to read the label wrong and take the wrong pill , and u might want to ask about your comprehension skills
            also. ( Have a good day ! )

          • Just out of curiosity I decided to look it up again : Transiting Uranus in Aires was sextile his SUN / N.NODE /URANUS .natal.It was trine his natal MOON , and his natal MARS / REGALUS.on his ASC. That’s what I look at.
Your 1st and only free lesson.Next time I charge.

      • I did the transits of the 2 candidates in the 2016 election. Those are the only ones that r important. Hillary didn’t have the astrological support.

  42. After BML, Algol is the highest entity in my chart, about 5 degrees from Mars, 10th house. In 2011, I had spinal fusion on three disks in my neck after debilitating pain for several years. This year, I have developed pulsatory tinnitus and am beginning the process to address it. Hopefully to stop it, because it is consuming my life.

    • Gotta ask J.L.; are you in close proximity to cell towers, lots of wifi, smartmeters, 5G? It may be worth looking into, as they cause inner ear and sensory problems. Wishing the best, of course. Check out electricsense.com

      • Hi dangerous. I just started working as a radio news reporter. I spent the first month of the job training at the station, where we transmit to 22 stations. Lots of electro- magnetic waves there. I’m also Aquarius, and sensitive to stuff in the air. I wondered if the EMF might have set something off in my head. But I work from home now, and the ringing hasn’t stopped. Not for a second. Thanks

  43. Man, I have to confess that I kinda like Algol’s persons because mysterious people are pretty attractive for someone like me who speaks a lot with my bigmouth. But when it comes to the lunar nodes, I mean like DAMN MAANNNN… Algol square nodes are those people who: a) either talks a lot but in the end you’ll notice they’re saying nothing at all; b) either are too freakin’ non-verbal which turns to be REALLY annoying at some point. Like, how can I even properly establish some type of real and serious communication under these circunstances?!! I guess maybe I should invest my time into a relationship with an statue, since there wouldn’t be much difference on it. LOL
