An accurate horoscope for North Korea has never been available to us because there is no recorded time for the proclamation of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). We do know that independence was declared on September 9, 1948 in Pýongyang, and this date is still celebrated as the national day. I have rectified the North Korea Horoscope to 12:39 pm. North Korea Horoscope Interpretation
Moon conjunct Ascendant makes North Korea sensitive, insular and reactionary. The citizens identify most strongly with their nation, making them patriotic, devoted, and strongly affected by international relations. The security of the people is of paramount importance for the nation. They were brutalized for 50 years during the Japanese occupation. Then the Korean war killed 300,000 of their soldiers and resulted 1.5 million civilians killed or wounded. Since then, the most powerful military force in the world has been on their doorstep.
Saturn square the rising Moon causes isolation, fear and hardship. It makes this already insular and sensitive nation even more defensive and lacking in friends. This also explains the repressive and controlling nature of the dictatorship. A dynastic military dictatorship with Saturn on the fixed star Regulus, “The Crushing Foot”. This is a military star associated with violence, destruction, controlling power and revenge.
The Sun and the Midheaven (MC) in mundane astrology both rule the leader. Sun conjunct MC means that the leader totally dominates the national identity, another indicator of dictatorship. Sun square Jupiter causes an inflated ego, exaggeration and lack of restraint. As Jupiter rules trade and treaties, this aspect results in border disputes and trade deficits. Between the Sun and MC, at 16°42′ Virgo, is the Arabic Part of Catastrophe (AC + Uranus – Sun).
Venus generally rules peace and diplomacy, but in mundane astrology signifies war in hard aspect. In ancient Mesopotamia, she was the Goddess of Love and Procreation when the evening star, and the Goddess of War when the morning star. In the North Korea horoscope she is Goddess of War, visible before sunrise. The furthest she can ever be in front of the Sun is 48 degrees, so at 46 degrees ahead of the Sun in this chart, she is a very fired up Goddess Ishtar. “her morning appearance woke them up to go to war” [Deborah Houlding].
So an angry Venus woke the North Koreans up at half past two in the morning to go to war. The square from Mars, ruler of the military and war, turns her anger into blind fury. The lunar eclipse before the declaration of independence was at 03°17′ Scorpio, less than half a degree from the North Korean Mars. This increases the aggressive and reactionary nature of the country.
Secrecy, paranoia and propaganda come from Mercury conjunct Neptune. This is made worse with this conjunction on the fixed star Algorab, “Kill or be Killed”. It is associated with lying, assassinations and covert military attacks, “Delays and restraint are indicated to come about by fiascoes, losses, wrong handling of matters and enmity in general.”
In summary, the North Korea astrology chart is a blueprint for a powerful and aggressive dictatorship, paranoid and out of control. The people suffer through repression, isolation and poverty. The only way for this nation to avert a violent and catastrophic end, is to throw this horoscope in the bin and start over.

I have not looked into the South Korean chart yet. I did look at the chart for the torpedo strike and found no links to the North Korean chart, but some interesting ones to the USA chart. Hearing what Hilary Clinton said yesterday it looks like North Korea is going to pushed further into a corner.

Yesterday it was widely reported around the world that the Communist State of North Korea would finally agree to give up its nuclear weapons program, in return for massive US aid and assurances that it would not be attacked by the same. It appears that the six-way nation talks, which include Japan, China, Russia and the USA, has finally bourne fruit.
Looking over the North Korean chart (Sep 10, 1948 12PM, JST, P’yongyang; Placidus 25 Scorpio 45, Campion), we can see that it’s under tremdous pressure for change in the way it has been doing things: transit Neptune opposes the chart ruling Pluto from the 3rd; a 2nd Saturn Return is in progress; transit Uranus opposes the MC; and transit Pluto conjuncts North Korea’s Jupiter (this latter transit reflects the “big chance” North Korea has).
Scanning this year’s Solar Arcs, several pop up: SA Mars=Uranus (Apr 05), SA MC=Mars (Jul 05), SA Mars=Pluto (Aug 05) and SA Pluto=Neptune (also in Aug 05). The former three pictures of course, speaks to North Korea’s defiant tone, but the latter measurement speaks to a potential weakening of the centers of power (Kim Jong-Il? Pluto rules the Asc, Neptune in the 11th House of Cabinet Ministers, etc.). Then, we see two more very interesting measurements upcoming in North Korea’s future: SA Neptune=MC (Oct 05) and SA Uranus=Neptune (Nov 05). BOTH of these pictures speaks very strongly to the Party in Power being weakened in some way, either through scandal or illness…or even through the Opposition elements within the country, since Neptune rules the 4th.
The ties between the USA and North Korea are very interesting: North Korea’s Moon-Jupiter conjunction rises in the USA Asc (I’m using the Sibly Sag Asc chart for the USA); USA’s Uranus squares the North Korea MC (USA wanting Regime Change?); North Korea’s Uranus (at the Aries Point!!!) is tightly conjunct the USA Jupiter (chart ruler) and Venus (culture shock, North Korea alienating the USA); North Korea’s Neptune sits on the USA Saturn (concerns over political ideology, particularly Communism versus Free Market Capitalism); USA’s Moon is squared by North Korea’s Asc and opposed by its Saturn (USA not liking North Korea’s regressive ways); and finally, North Korea’s Sun is conjunct the USA Neptune (issues over ideology). Lots of square aspects between the two countries, and as we all know, the last thing you want to see is a lot of squares in a synastric analysis.
Something else is interesting here: The USA also has transit Pluto square Neptune in the 9th (other countries, in this case, North Korea, a state known for its ideology) and opposed its Mars in the 7th (potential violent actions with other countries); Pluto of course, refers to atomic and nuclear energy and the weapons made from it. North Korea, again, has Neptune in transit opposed the chart ruling Pluto, in the 9th (in other words, North Korea has Pluto in the 9th, the USA has Neptune in the 9th, and both have contacts from transits).
I don’t think this is a ruse on the part of the North Koreans. Their system of government has been dying a slow death for sometime now. The Neptune symbolisms, both in terms of transit and arc, suggests strongly that the DPRK has been greatly weakened.
More major changes are onroute.

Cathy, I am struggling a bit at the moment, Jupiter and Uranus are opposing my Sun and I am dealing with issues of over-expanding too quickly. Readings are taking up more of my time, and I do like to chat on our Facebook page. I also have 3 kids on my own and transiting Saturn on my Sun is teaching me a thing or two about time management. I would love to teach at some stage in the future, but for the time being I’m sharing what I am learning along the way by posting about current events and working through the meaning of the basic planetary asepcts. I think these current difficult transits are also causing some technical challenges for me with this website, the last few post titles are not coming up on the search engines, nor the tags. Jess, as far as North Korea is concerned they are at war with the USA. Last May they withdrew from the Korean war armistice. The last lunar eclipse sextile North Korea Mars sounds good for war. Tonight’s full Moon opposite North Korea Venus sounds bad for peace.
The solar eclipse two weeks ago on the North Korea Vertex has signaled that this moment in history is crucial turning point in the destiny of both Korea’s.
My feeling is that the hostilities over the decades cannot continue indefinitely, and that whatever happens now will lead to reunification. The USA is definitely putting the pressure on North Korea. They seem to be provoking a reaction so they have a legitimate excuse to finish off another of the “Axis of Evil” states. Just as they lynched Saddam Hussein, they want to do the same with Kim Jong-il.

Leone I have been thinking about this post lately too. June 2010 Lunar Eclipse sextile North Korean Mars – good war war, especially initiating it. July 2010 Solar Eclipse conjunct Vertex, dependant on my rectified time but now I’m even more confident about that. Issues brought up by eclipses start rearing their head if they haven’t been dealth with properly, as the next eclipse approaches. We are now in the last Full Moon cycle before the next Lunar Eclipse. Also we have transiting Neptune opposing North Korean Saturn – on Regulus, a military star.

Whereas the major daily trigger for the shelling seems to have been the Mars’s transit over Jupiter, the all-important planet in the North Korean chart, it is a bit alarming that the next full Moon of December 21st which is going to be a lunar eclipse as well, is going to hit natal Uranus by a very exact conjunction, thereby activating the Uranus square to this point of the last solar eclipse. Could this point to another sudden upheaval? The major long-term influence for the future to be watched is, imo, the Nov. 25th 2011 solar eclipse which is going to be exactly conjunct natal Moon and ascendant of the national chart, with (retrograde)Mercury hitting natal Jupiter by conjunction. This in itself doesn’t seem dangerous but it does suggest a reorientation of some kind, maybe involving the leadership of the country.

Regarding your last entry posted above (dated November 27th)….. we have crossed the December 9-10 threshold without incident.
The Dec 21, 2010 lunar eclipse is certainly a factor to consider. Other natal degrees being triggered…. NK leader Kim Jong Il’s natal Mars at 28 ’41 Sag (DOB Feb 16, 1941), North Korea’s progressed Jupiter (29 ’01 Sag) and South Korea’s natal Uranus 29 ’26 Gemini (Aug. 15, ’48). Also, Pres. Obama’s progressed Sun (0 Libra), natal Venus (1 Cancer) and the US Sibly MC (1 Libra) are close to those degrees.
South Korea and the US are planning additional military exercises towards the end of December which includes live artillery fire surrounding the five islands under dispute – see related article: globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=22252
A quick glance at the aspects for the end of December…. Mercury goes stationary direct on Dec 30th (19 Sag), possibly re-activating the grievances that began on November 23rd with the North Korean bombardment of Yeonpyeong island. The Mercury station also occurs right at the time of the Dec 29th Mars-Saturn square (16 Capr.- Cancer). China has its natal nodes at 16 Aries – Libra, so I would expect if hostilities on the Korean peninsula should flare up, China may be drawn into the conflict.
Do you see any other points of contact with these aspects that could suggest a war-like situation in late December?

I’m in Seoul right now (visiting from US) and because of my medical procedure doctor asked me to extend the stay till end of December. Before I flew to Seoul in mid Nov. I had already read somewhere that there would be tension between N and S (from astrological stand point) but I didn’t think too much of it until the recent incident, it really scared me.
I’m thinking maybe I need to forget about getting further medical treatments and just go back to US than risking the eclipse on the 21st.

Some analysis on the aspects may be in order. Generally speaking, Mars-Saturn squares often spawn wars. Given that as a consideration, I think there is a real risk of military confrontation on the Korean peninsula towards the end of the month.
Drawing a chart up for the Dec 29th Moon/Saturn – Mars square in South Korea (5:42 am local time – refer to the following chart: i55.tinypic.com/2nimp7p.jpg ), one notices the Mars-Saturn midpoint hovers directly over the November 23rd Yoengpong Island bombing chart Sun (1 Sagittarius) thus raising the specter that most likely there will be resumption of hostilities. But this time, South Korea has vowed to respond convincingly with surgical air strikes on strategic military facilities deep into North Korea. The possibility of a wider war dragging in the US and China makes this situation rather apocalyptic given that nuclear weapons may enter into the equation at some point.

Now I’ve caught up to date with the latest news, seems the North is ready to hold the live firing drill on that dangerous island despite calls from China and Russia to back down. Bad weather has delayed the drill from yesterday so this is rather exciting astrologically to look at the transits.
From Reuters, today, Dec 18
‘YEONPYEONG – South Korean marines were poised on Saturday to conduct a live-fire drill off the west coast despite a threat by the North to launch a new strike and Beijing’s call for restraint from the rival states.’
And the ABC yesterday evening:
‘North Korea has warned that another war with South Korea would involve nuclear weapons, as diplomatic efforts continued to ease tensions over its deadly artillery attack and atomic ambitions.’
Looks like they are ready to start now following a delay for bad weather.
The Moon is nearing its full, we are on the brink of the eclipse (see my post above) but let’s hope it’s just angry words… (today, tr. Mars exact square to North Korean Mercury)
However, if Uranus tension is to be released with this lunar eclipse that would mean an unpredictable course of action… As David pointed out, Mercury goes direct at 19 Sag (!) on the 30th, with Mars squaring Saturn on that day too. But Mercury direct conj. Jupiter in the charts of both Koreans could also mean a peace negotitation, don’t you think?
This brings up the question of whether eclipses have effect before the actually occur. Personally I think the effect of the previous mid-year is in effect and building up as the next ones approach. The CNN headline supports this idea of increasing energy toward the end of the eclipse cycle, “”Korean tensions are a tinderbox”. June lunar eclipse sextile Mars and July solar eclipse conjunct Vertex.
I am hopeful about peace negotiations in the liong term. Maybe this will depend on the South Korean leadership and interferance from the USA, both seem to be very provacative at the moment. I believe the [people of both countries deep down want peace but have to put up with ridiculous ego maniacs running the show. Just like Germany was unified, so sould Korea.
You mentioned the upcoming lunar eclipse conjunct the North Korea Uranus as a possible trigger for further sudden upheaval, but I do like using precession correction (53 minutes here) for transits and this is what I get:
December 2010 lunar eclipse sextile Saturn (18′), conjunct Uranus (107′). So hopefully the positive steadying influence of Saturn will prevail.
Hi Jamie, interesting 🙂 I use precession corrected solar returns and like the idea of using it for transits too… Eclipses certainly have effect before their acctual aoocurence. Bill Meridian, building upon the findings of Johndro, writes about this phenomena quite extensively in his book on eclipses which came out I think last March.I think he mentions a period of some 6-7 weeks before the eclipse for lunar eclipses…
And, Jamie and all, solar eclipses are in effect several motnhs before their occurence. For example, I bore my son in June 2003 whereas a solar eclipse occured exactly upon my ascendant (1 sag) in November of that year. As this is, incidetally, the degree of north korean asc. and the Moon too, it would be interesting to know what happened there in that year… 2003. because it’s going to be a repeat of the 2003 eclipse, although belonging to another saros cycle… food for thought! 🙂
I forgot to mention in my previous post, the 2011 solar eclipse (november) is going to re-charge the 2003 solar eclipse. This is what I found on the net, about 2003…

Transiting Mars square North Korea Mercury. This Mercury is also starting to come under pressure from transiting Pluto making a square from the same place in Capricorn.
Mars squaring Mercury is known for rash decisions which might turn own regretable. I just have to quote from Robert Hand for this one, Planets in Transit page 233 “you are quick to take offence…you quickly become angry and irritable…considerable danger of arguments and disputes…Others may seem to be picking fights with you”. South Korea carried out the controversial military exercise without incident. North Korea blinked. No major outbreak of hostilities, at least not at this point in time.
Which brings us back to the original discussion….. Jamie, in addition to the Dec 29th Mars-Saturn square, what do you make of the Dec 29/30 Mercury station (19 ’37 Sag) in close semi-square to Pluto? Not only is the November 23rd Moon-Mars opp. activated; the degree of No and So Korea’s n Jupiter – 19 Sag that saw NK’s aggressive bombardment of Yeonpyoeng island, but Pluto at the 5 Capr. degree is in a firm position to trigger the 6/25/50 Mars-Uranus square (5 Libra – Cancer) of the Korean war chart.
I miscalculated. My mistake. The Pluto-Mercury degrees are not in semi-square as I originally thought. There is however a close Sun-Pluto conjunction. Whether this creates more tension in the region remains to be seen.
One obvious aspect I missed…. South Korea’s natal Mars (Aug. 15, ’48) at 17 ’25 Libra is frightfully close to the Dec. 29th Moon/Saturn-Mars square (16 Libra-Capr.). These are all malefic aspects that could elevate tensions in the region.
Hey David….your posts are in line with all the saturn/mars/pluto aspects…with the saturn/mars square upon us, thepossible outbreak of conflict is around a lot on the world stage…the soviet era ruler, the african nation that might split, the christians being pushed out of iraq, the Korean situation….i feel the world body has chosen to ”manage” the korean conflict, thus controlling any possibility of resolution for the actual nationals in the area…and yes, the Sun conjunct Pluto has great power, especilly with the preceeding Total Lunar Eclipse and then the lead up Mars Square Saturn…I have actually noticed the separation of aspects to be much more visible in their actions than the approaching or the exact itself…on a personal level, MY life is amazingly accelerated with creative projects,launching a new cafe, and having a deep release from a very core conflict…the transformation in my life is quite extensive and total…but then I do not deny what is ”up” for me…I encourage the externalization…with whatever confrontation might ensue….keep on that mars/pluto/saturn tangent….Korea is a true reflection for us…

Also in the equation, we have to consider the US Sibly charts progressed moon conjunct the US midheaven at 1 Libra and President Obama’s progressed Sun at 0 Libra in the Spring.
The March 19th, 2011 Full Moon at 28 ‘48 Virgo forms a grand cross square to the December 21st Lunar eclipse (South Korea narrowly averted a full blown war then). The mid March nodes at 28 Gemini-Sag are intricately woven into this dynamic. This all comes within a degree or so of tr. Uranus and the 0 cardinal ingress degree.
Leading up to it, there is the March 18th Mars-Moon opposition (19 Virgo – Pisces).
