Cursa Astrology

The spectra of fixed star Cursa is A3 which indicates a Venus nature with a touch of Mercury. These bluish-white stars give great honors, artistic appreciation, unexpected gains, good fortune, riches, good judgment, sociableness, creativeness, idealism, and impulsiveness. Challenging aspects cause wantonness, indiscretion, scandals, foolhardiness, destructiveness, cleverness, many anxious moments and self-seeking nature. Being a variable star, its influence is diluted, for example, creating an argumentative nature, an inconstant nature, and a degree of unreliability. [1]

Cursa, β Eridani, is the most northerly star in the river and effectively its source spring. At 15°17′ Gemini it is only 0°33′ from Orion’s foot, Rigel. The name, in fact, comes from the Arabic for ‘The Giant’s Footstool’. Although bright, it is far outshone by Rigel, and this can be read as the inspiration to set out on the long quest to the Divine Source of that brightness. The weariness to come, marked by Zaurak, lies far away yet, so Cursa is a Sign of Enthusiasm for the Quest, surely meriting a Jupiter-Mercury simile. Look for that enthusiasm in those who have this star strong and well aspected. [2]

Constellation Eridanus

The River, with the exception of Achernar, is like Saturn. It gives a love of knowledge and science, much travel and many changes, a position of authority, but danger of accidents, especially at sea and of drowning. [3]

This constellation portends rain. Modern astrologers claim that the constellation gives a love of knowledge and science, but there is no support for this contention in classical astrology. Eridanus does, however, indicate events concerned with rivers and streams. Ptolemy states that the star at the end of the river has a nature like that of Jupiter, and the other stars in the constellation have an influence akin to that of Saturn. [4]

  1. Tomorrow, it will be necessary to have my elderly pet put to sleep. I cast a chart for sunrise tomorrow and compared it with my birth chart. The relevant bits are: In my 6th House (I can’t seem to get away from using houses just yet), Vertex (15Gem29) will be just touching my Arabic Part of “Sudden Parting” (14Gem26). The star “Cursa” will, if I did my adjustments for the Precession of the Equinoxes correctly, be at 15Gem01. I looked and noticed the bit in the Lunar Mansion connected with Cursa on this page of your website ~ “It is good for… funerals… Burials on this day confer honor to the deceased” (both the funeral and burial will be done shortly after she’s put to sleep). Other reinforcements in the chart are Saturn (14Cap51) which I interpret as an “enforced” sudden parting, and Part of Fortune (15Cap30) which I interpret as “it’s for the best.” Also involved is Retrograde Neptune (16Pis17R) in my 2nd House, which I interpret as paying for the *drug* that will put her to *sleep*. For me, the retrograde facet is that I had to revisit this situation many times in my mind. I thought the astrology of the day, involving one of the stars, warranted sharing… maybe it will provide some research data. I haven’t taken a look at other stars which appear to be involved ~ Saturn & PoF Conjunct Manubrium (14Cap44) and Vega (15Cap03); Neptune conjunct Achernar (15Pis03)… maybe I’ll take a look after I get over the stress of the situation.

    • Additonal:
While reading the information regarding Manubrium, Vega, and Achernar, the following phrases caught my attention and seemed applicable to the situation:

Manubrium (Saturn conjunct): “…a karmic position involving a woman in a
former life who was very close to the individual.” My comment: I knew that this was a reincarnation of a pet I had just previous to this one coming into my life (confirmed by a third party who didn’t know either of us, but who was chatting with me at a bookstore; I had told nothing to this particular individual about my pet).

Vega (Saturn conjunct): “… sudden death.”
My comment: It certainly was a sudden death for her.

Achernar (Neptune conjunct): The following phrase caught my attention: “The entire body is weak and they have little energy.” She developed into early stages of this condition about two weaks prior, the worst of it occurred about two days before she had to be put to sleep; she could barely stand up for a few seconds during the final two days.
