Australia Astrology Chart, Australia Horoscope

Australian Flag

The Australian state of Queensland (QLD) has been hit by record flooding since Christmas, when tropical cyclone Tasha hit the coast on December 24 2010 near Cairns. The rain has continued, and flooding has affected a massive are of this large state. The situation escalated rapidly with flash flooding in Toowoomba on January 10 2011, and the Brisbane river is now spilling over in the state capital, home to over 2 million people. At least 10 lives have been lost with 80 still missing. This is the worst flooding in Australian history.

The obvious place to look for some astrological explanation is the December 2011 Lunar Eclipse because it came just 3 days before the flooding started. I believed this eclipse would be significant for Australia, because it was conjunct a very sensitive point in the Federation horoscope for Australia. The tightest aspect in this Australia horoscope is Mercury opposite Neptune (24′). Neptune is conjunct the fixed star Betelgeuse, the same star triggered by the December 2010 lunar eclipse.

Australia Astrology Chart

I was not sure what this aspect would mean for Australia, Mercury and Chiron opposite Neptune, but with hindsight, associating flooding waters with Neptune in this challenging aspect seems reasonable. Even transiting Neptune is aspecting this setup, trine to the Australian Neptune now. The rapid escalation of the crisis can be seen with transiting Uranus square the Australian Neptune, not exact till February 23. Jupiter is also square this Neptune, exact on January 17.

Australia Astrology Chart

As I wrote in the January Forecast, I wasn’t expecting the Jupiter Uranus conjunction to cause the devastating flooding associated with the previous conjunctions, which we saw in China, Pakistan and elsewhere. This was because this January conjunction of Jupiter and Uranus was not on the star Scheat, like the other ones were. Well now Jupiter and Uranus are again closing in on Scheat, the star of catastrophic flooding. Jupiter is now within orb, and hits exact on January 20, square the Neptune in the Australian horoscope. This is the worst flooding in Australian history, and Australia is the “land of flooding rains“. I’m thinking that this sensitive Neptune, opposite Mercury and Chiron is to blame, especially now realizing that this Neptune is activated by the December eclipse, and square Scheat, which is being activated by Jupiter and soon Uranus.

Fellow Aussie astrologer Alice Portman has researched these floods, and also points the finger at the December lunar eclipse, though for different reasons than I have found. Alice used the horoscope for QLD and noticed that the December lunar eclipse was conjunct Mars and Jupiter in the QLD chart. Wow! That singles out QLD for special attention, it has both Mars and Jupiter on the fixed star Betelgeuse in the Orion Constellation, on the Australian Neptune. What I found particularly interesting in her article, Queensland Floods, was the horoscope for the 1974 Brisbane flood, the previous record flooding event. Saturn in that chart is conjunct the fixed star Betelgeuse, on the Australian Neptune, the QLD Mars Jupiter.

The one thing I see repeated here is Betelgeuse, the sensitive point in the Australia horoscope because of Neptune, opposite Mercury and Chiron. Saturn was there in the 1974 flood, QLD has Mars and Jupiter there, and this was triggered by the December 2010 lunar eclipse, three days before the flooding started. These connections are only obvious when we make the fixed stars the reference, not the degrees of the tropical zodiac. You especially notice this when comparing current events to much older charts, like the Australian horoscope for Federation. Precession correction means that Neptune in that chart (27°30′ Gemini), is now 29°02 Gemini, just 19′ from the December 2010 lunar eclipse.

  1. One reason it was easy to miss the crisis aspect of what has happened is because the Federation Chart should be set for its ceremony’s start at 1pm not set at 1.35 as is common. The I pm chart is more accurate and the Part of Catastrophe is conjunct its 12th house cusp (loss and in Pisces, anything watery) and this was hit off by the transit of Uranus (accidents, shocks etc). In addition to the lunar eclipse conjunct Neptune, the solar eclipse of the 4th was loosely conjunct asteroid Flood which is conjunct the Australian sun showing floods are a perennial problem that just awaits its triggers. I hadn’t looked at the Australian chart for a couple of years and wish I had as one might have ventured some prediction, but I fancy it wouldn’t have been heard anyway.

    • Hi Rollan, I believe you’re in Queensland by reading your website. Good to hear from you. Always worth having a go at prediction I believe, I find it’s one of the best ways to learn, because you put yourself under pressure. If you get it wrong, then working out why becomes a priority, and makes you a better astrologer.

Before I settled on this Federation horoscope, I did do a fair bit of research. Good hits to the angles of the Federation chart set for 1:35 pm. I didn’t ever post it, but you can see it now: Federation chart testing. Now that you have pointed out your findings, I would like to go back and test the 1:00 pm time against those major events, yet another thing on the to-do list!

I did also read up on why 1:35 pm is used. “The timing is when the Governor General, Prime Minister and Members of Parliament took their Oath of Office in Sydney, New South Wales. The time of 1.35.42 pm has been recorded on film and slightly rectified by Gwen Stoney (deceased), who was one of the most respected research astrologers in Australia.” This was information given by Alice McDermott: noeltyl.com/discussion/index.php?topic=737.0

  2. Just got the horoscope for Brisbane City from Alice: 28th September 1824, 10.00 am, Brisbane, Australia. When I get a chance I will get it posted above.

  3. Gwen Stoney was arguably Australia’s greatest research astrologer. She was also highly respected in Europian cosmo circles, and her articles appeared regularly in Uranian astrologer. I have her original hand written notes on the Australian 1.34.52 Sydney horoscope, among her many other research projects. Her work on the Australian Federation horoscope took many months spent pouring over microfilm records in the Mitchell Library. I often talked with Gwen about this. She did not ‘assume’ anything, and her charts were rounded to the second, as with the actual Centennial Park location to the foot. I also have the archival film of the swearing in ceremony, which began with a 10.30 procession of various nationalities. And as to the time? Well it’s a bit like a wedding Jamie – it’s only sealed when you say “I do” – at the end of the ceremony. Until then everything is speculative. With my Australian Settlement – the timing came from the First Fleet diaries. Overnight the boats waited in the harbor until dawn when they rowed ashore, planted a flag, blew a few horns, declared the land for King George, and starting chopping down trees for the new settlement. We haven’t stopped since. There are references that clearly show the morning, by cross checking the diaries. I then worked this via 70 major events – Gold Rush, Anzac Day, Whitlam sacking etc.

  4. Hi Ed

Did Gwen time the 1.35.42 pm chart for when the Governor-General officially took his Oath or when the Prime Minister took his Oath of Office?

Rolland I agree with Ed. The time is when the Oath is taken, up until then it is not ‘set’. This chart is the equivalent of the POTUSA chart and responds well to anything and everything to do with the government of Australia and the Prime Minister of Australia.

I deeply respected Gwen Stoney’s abilities and commitment to astrology. Before her death she gave me a couple of her Uranian Astrology books, which I still treasure.

    Alice

  5. Hi Alice,
Good to hear from you Alice. I read your work on the floods and find it very illuminating, and well researched as expected. Great that you’re web posting with your own site now. Re swearing in – my understanding is that it was when Barton was sworn in as PM and signed the register. I should recheck the Salvo’s film to be sure – I still have Gwen’s video copy. You have Gwen’s Uranian books and I have Joan McCullough’s which were handed down to Gwen. Rare indeed these days, these volumes. I also have the Uranian magazines that she wrote for and her Uranian textbooks. She was a marvel, and such a modest woman for her great talents. I’m sure she would be in the thick of this..and strangley seems to be via her work.
    Ed

  6. Eileen Nauman wrote about the effect of Uranian planet Hades entering Cancer end of July 2010, as affecting the element of water, and made some interesting predictions. It’s not always about the eclipses.

  7. Hi AJ

In this case it is! Hades has retrograded back into the last degree of Gemini (29.41) and was conjunct the lunar eclipse Moon (29.20).

Hades seems to literally bring ‘hell’ with it. I feel great sympathy for Queenslanders, who now have to deal with stench and disease as well as rebuilding their lives.

I keep wondering what the Transneptunians are? Planets in a different dimension? Energy fulcrums connected to the orbits of the planets in our solar system? any ideas?

    Alice

    • My sense is that the Transneptunians are the loom on which the weft and warp of the planetary energies are woven. One needs to consider the circumstances in which they were first brought into Earth consciousness, and who was their transmedium at the time. I also sense they are more connected to the Fixed Stars than the ‘faster’ orbital patterns of the planets.

  8. Jamie and Alice,

The Oxley diary entries on the 28th of September 1824 state that he finds an abundance of excellent quality water, fine valley and chain of ponds, with timber. He describes this as, “by no means an ineligible station for a first settlement up the river.”

Oxley goes on to quote times, “At 4 o’clock, after a fatiguing row, we gained entrance to the river and stopped an hour to dine. I took several bearings from the north point of the river to determine its position and returned to the vessel about 10’o’Clock the same night, after an absence of 13 days spent in most interesting and I hope useful investigation.” The latter time is another certainly worth investigating considering the current floods.

The September 28 1824 10 p.m. Brisbane horoscope, when his mission was complete, has a the obvious T-Square of Libran Sun opposite Pluto and square Neptune/North Node. That is almost a signature of destructive (Pluto) flooding (Neptune). The current Solar Arcs show the Sun/Neptune/Node arcing to Uranus. The secondary progressions show the Moon conjunct the Sun and squaring Neptune. The transits show Pluto on the birth Neptune, and transiting Neptune squaring the natal Ascendant.

    More for the mix…
    Ed

    • Thanks Ed. I’ll have to spend more time looking into this Brisbane horoscope. It’s a little difficult at the moment (due to the flooding!). We are OK down here near Coffs Harbour, but I have guests staying at my house who can’t get back to Brisbane. Bit chaotic here, Jupiter and Uranus are opposite my Sun, yet again.

Using precession correction for the transits to this 10pm Brisbane chart:
January 4 solar eclipse conjunct Uranus, upsetting, unexpected change, “flash” flooding, electricity cuts.
Saturn conjunct Mercury, that’s the obvious restrictions, delays with local travel and communications. Also a depressing transit, sad thoughts, heavy and pessimistic, bad news.

You saw the strong Neptune in this chart again, like the Settlement and Federation charts. I’d also add that the Brisbane Neptune is the action point of a very tight Yod aspect pattern (to Jupiter sextile Saturn).

This 10pm time gives the Pleiades rising. I have been looking into this cluster and the main star Alcyone for a while. Many myths from cultures all round the world. There is a lot of variation because some of these interpretations are based on the heliacal rising (varying from place to place, and over time) and what was happening at that time of year based on the season. But there does seem to be a widespread link to sorrow, crying tears, then the association with rain.

  9. Something else I’d like to add, a little away from astrology.

Looking at the pictures on the news from the choppers, a big city center under water. It felt to me very futuristic, as sign of what was to come in the years ahead due to climate change. We still have a lot of wet weather ahead of us in the next couple of months, only one little cyclone has hit so far this season.

  10. Here’s my chart for Greater Brisbane, 1 oct. 1925, 00:01 am, Brisbane: astroqueer.tripod.com/charts/places/brisbane.html . This chart pertains to the large area affected by the floods. Transiting Jupiter-Uranus is conjunct Eris, high in the sky, on the equal 10th cusp, bringing the floods to world attention. Jupiter rules 29 Sagittarius on the 7th cusp (bringing masses of people together in a very successful joint effort) and Uranus rules the South Node in the 8th (the flooding was unusual and sudden but not an unprecedented event). TR Saturn is quincunx Brisbane’s Moon at 14 Pisces, indicating hardship through a mass of mutable water. The Sabian Symbol for 14 Pisces is “an officer preparing to drill his men” — and we can see the QLD premier, Anna Bligh, standing up admirably in this role. The Chiron-Neptune conjunction (of which Neptune rules Brisbane’s Moon) is semi-sextile Jupiter-Uranus on the equal 10th cusp. TR Pluto is square Brisbane’s Libran Sun. TR Mars is quincunx the 29 Gemini Ascendant.

  11. Hi Sy

The link wouldn’t open. What is the basis of this chart? i.e. was it the time the foundation stone for the city was laid, or the time a government was formed?

    Alice

  12. Also fascinating that the lunar eclipse straddled the Ascendant-Descendant of this chart!

  13. Hi Alice, this chart is for the time that Greater Brisbane became a governing body. Previously Brisbane was a small town/city of just a few inner suburbs like Sydney, Melbourne, etc. Sydney and Melbourne city councils never changed, but in 1925 Brisbane merged many town (suburban) councils to become one of the largest single-council-governed city areas in the world. So, today the brisbane city council area encompasses a large part of the conurbation of suburbs, unlike say Sydney city council which still only covers the inner city. Today the Brisbane city council administers a population larger than that of Tasmania, Canberra/ACT and the NT put together. Some people would say that’s why we get things done (so well) in Brisbane, because of the single council. Part of the change in 1925 was the start of the building of Brisbane’s massive city hall, certainly the largest in Australia (completed 1930) and as i understand it the largest city hall in the former “British Empire” when it was built. 🙂

  14. “Free settlers entered the area over the following five years and by the end of 1840 Robert Dixon began work on the first plan of Brisbane Town in anticipation of future development.[18] Queensland was proclaimed a separate colony on 6 June 1859,[19] with Brisbane chosen as its capital, although it was not incorporated as a city until 1902. Over twenty small municipalities and shires were amalgamated in 1925, to form the City of Brisbane which is governed by the Brisbane City Council.[20][21]”

    wikipedia – Brisbane

  15. I’m sorry, because of the flood all my files are packed into plastic tubs stacked all over the place! The reference for the Brisbane City Council chart data is given on my webpage: “October 1st, the date in 1925 when Greater Brisbane, as capital of Queensland, was amalgamated (as stated in the Courier-Mail, 2 October 1925).” I will be adding this chart and charts for other cities to my Aussie Stars website in due course, later this year i hope. 🙂

    • All the best up there with the cleanup Sy. I know there is a great community spirit and that’s really coming out strong right now. The basis for your Brisbane chart look sound. My first impression, without looking at the astrology, is that this chart is probably more suited for the city than the one Ed found for when Oxley chose the spot. Both you and Ed are certainly experts in researching these things. That AC being hit by the December lunar eclipse, and Saturn for the 1974 floods floods does look impressive. BTW, that was nice work on the TMA blog with the Julian Assange horoscope.

      • Hi Jamie, yes the 1925 Brisbane chart is suited to the city today, but of course Ed’s chart would apply to earlier times, pre-1925, and possibly to current events also. You probably have read that at least two biographies of Assange are in the works. Maybe they will shed some light on his birth time.

  16. What do you see when you look at the NSW chart with regard to the flooding? Seems NSW has been much luckier than Queensland and Vic.

    • There’s about 8000 people isolated east of Grafton at the moment, and some out west are going to be cut off for 3 months I just heard on the news. Still nothing like QLD, but with more flooding in Victoria, looking at the Australian chart explains a lot. I haven’t even looked into a chart for NSW but will do so. I’m interested in this also with the NSW election coming up and the apparent wiping out of the Labour party here.

      • Oh boy, a lot to wade through here. Just checked on wiki:

        Australian State
        – Established as Colony 1788
        – Responsible Government 1855
        – Became State 1901
        – Australia Act 3 March 1986

Will have to spend some time on this.

        • Do you have Solar Fire? I think that some of these charts are included in Stephanie Johnson’s Australian Data collection which is included in the SF software.

  17. hi. I was wondering if anyone had an official chart for rockhamption? I gather that there was first a settlement on one side of river, than other side, and the they combined. My best wishes for queensland and now victoria, northern nsw.
    Cheers annette

    • From wiki, Rockhampton became a “City on 31 March 1903”. When I get a chance I’ll do up a chart for noon on that day in Rockhampton and post a link here. Nice place, I lived up there for about 8 years. I remember some cyclone flooded us out, would have been around 1987. Wasn’t as bad as this recent one though.

      • In this case I would use the chart of The Rockhampton Regional Council which came into effect on 15 March 2008, 00.01am AEST (10hE), Rockhampton, with an Ascendant of 3 Capricorn. The flooded Fitzroy River reached its peak in Rockhampton on 5 January 2011 (sorry I don’t have the time of the event): TR Neptune-Chiron conjunct the RRC’s North Node at 27 Aquarius; and TR Uranus-Jupiter close to the RRC’s Sun, making a T-Square to the RCC’s Moon/Mars-Pluto opposition.

        • Better look into this tonight then, just saw the news about this afternoon: “Rockhampton hit by flash flooding”.

          • 1903 chart has tr Jupiter Uranus square Uranus early January 2011.

2008 chart has tr Pluto conjunct AC November 2010, tr Neptune conjunct North Node late December 2010.

  18. The precession of the equinoxes is a much more complex process than mere mechanical attraction Sir Isaac discovered.

A universal picture of nuclear, electro-magnetic and traditional mechanical issues interacting, affecting and altering each other is presented by Dr. Michael Kerjman.

“Of Planetary Change Short Story”, for instance, is easily assessable in The World Net Library via thefreelibrary.com .

I think it is interesting scientific work incorporating, willingly or simply realistically, esoteric well.

  19. More to come. Super Cyclone Yasi should hit Queensland later this week, early February 2011. This is a monster, bigger than most countries. This February, Uranus will be square the Australia horoscope Neptune (exact 23 February). Uranus is exactly square the December 2010 Lunar Eclipse on February 28.

    • Jamie…Nostradamus:
Garden of the World near the new city,
In the road of the hollow mountains,
It will be seized and plunged into the Tank,
Forced to drink water poisoned with sulphur

It was translated as New Jersey, which dubbed itself “the Garden State” would have it’s water poisoned, possibly by terrorists. But I thought of Victoria straight away as we are known as the “the Garden State”.
Due to the floods I wondered if our water could become contaminated…on the radio the other day it said that tests carried out around 2009 in Melbourne showed that out waterways were heavily contaminated by fertiliser…looked it up on the interent and sulphur is in fertiliser!! Problem with Nostradamus you can’t work out his predictions till AFTER the event…then it’s easy to put 2 & 2 together!!
Showed the Yarra River on tv last night…raging…if that overflows then Melbourne city could get flooded. Am not sure if all these country rivers run into the Yarra or not….but they look like they may burst their banks (on news today, Sunday)
      regards barb

      • I was surprised about the flash flooding in VIC, didn’t think the cyclone would effect down there. I was expecting a lot of rain where I am near Coffs Harbour but we have had a heat wave for a week and still no relief. That Murray-Darling river system is our food basket so there would be so much fertilizer being spread through the flooded land.

        • Normally when there is a reply or comment it goes straight to my email address…it’s not happening…anyway I can fix that???…Barb

          • Should work if you do subscribe to comments. This WordPress theme plays up sometimes, could be that. They send me updates fairly often to fix bugs.

PS I keep waiting to see what the next “disaster” is going to be!!

          • no other news about the erruption (it’s not even a full erruption, it’s just spewing some smoke and ash….maybe when Uranus is in Aries it will errupt)…but, from what I’ve read, it hasn’t errupted since 1929. is it a coincidence that the last time it errupted, Uranus was in Aries?

here’s some footage posted in youtube:

  21. Re: Victorian floods
Just found out that my son’s mate George…who had his car flooded with water in ST Kilda on Friday night..that his car is a right-off, due to the water, he even had it checked by RACV…he only has 3rd party fire & theft insurance, so is not covered by insurance…BUT his neighbours, who have car’s worth $60,000, and have full comphrehensive insurance are NOT covered either! George has looked into the flood relief hand-outs…and they are not paying for cars, only houses. It is SO wrong…people depend here on their cars SO much to get them to work etc…can you imagine the people who have taken out car loans…that now do not have a car…they will have to try and get ANOTHER loan for another car…at the same time continuing to pay off the first car loan?
I pay full comprehensive insurance for my car…so that if ANYTHING happens I am covered…well, thats what I “imagined”.
I feel SO sorry for some of these people…Barb

    • Lots of people in SE Queensland thought they had full cover on their houses too. Turns out insurance companies are not paying out in a lot of cases because of some technical loophole, categorizing “flash flooding, storm damage and riverine flooding.”

      • It’s 9.14pm Thursday…rain coming down REALLY hard in Melbourne & thunder…keep thinking we may have more flooding…even though nothing on the news.

By the way…when the cyclone went from Queensland to Victoria, shouldn’t there have been a trail of destruction?

I heard about the insurance companies in Queensland…they all stink….but I think the funds people have donated to should help people out more. Like I would like funds to cover a car…more than say, for example new carpet…’cos a lot of people won’t be able to get to work without a car or pick up the kids…they are going to be stuck at home, paying off a car loan, but don’t have a car..and they won’t be able to afford another car loan on top of the one they already have…a “domino” effect….people need help to “keep their jobs”.
Hey…even though it says “you are subscribed to this entry”..I am still not getting replies to my email address…have had some…but has stopped again…Regards Barb

  22. Hi, can I, as an obsessed sub editor, correct you on your use of the word effecting/effect? When you say something is effecting it can only be used as in ‘effecting’ a cure, or result etc. In effect, the word in your blog should be ‘affecting’, as in when something is affected by, say, floods etc. The effect of the floods was devastating, affecting thousands of homes. Effect is almost always used as a verb. Unless your topic is psychology, you will rarely need to use affect as a noun.
When we say one thing has had an impact on another, we use the verb affect. For example: It’s hard to say how the price of bread will affect the economy. Growing up with three older siblings affected me greatly.
When someone affects you strongly, you may develop affection for them. Effect is almost always used as a noun. When people talk about causes, they also talk about effects. An effect is what is created by some cause. Here are some examples of effect as “the result of a cause”
It’s hard to say what effect the rising price of bread will have on the world economy. One undesirable effect of not wearing shoes is dirty feet.
The hurricane caused many tragedies, and the victims are still feeling its depressing effects. However, it can also be used as a verb, meaning to bring about, as in her actions effected a change in the situation.
    cheers

    • OK Leone, I do struggle with grammar having Mercury and Venus opposite Saturn. So what do I write for this:

Pluto conjunct your Moon effects you like this….

      OR

Pluto conjunct your Moon affects you like this…..
