Dong’ou
25♍59 to 07♎19
The Book of Jin, Treatise on Astronomy, records that “the five stars south of the Wing constellation are called the Eastern District, which are the stars of the barbarians.” This explains the symbolic meaning of the Eastern Ou star official as a “barbarian star” in ancient Chinese astrological culture. [3]
Ma Duanlin (1317)
The five planets of Dong’ou (东瓛), located south of the Wing, are barbarian stars. Zhang Heng states that they govern the three barbarian tribes of Dongyue (东越), Chuanxiong (穿胸), and Yue (越). If Venus and Mars guard it, there will be war in that region. If they move, there will be internal rebellion.
The Treatise on Astronomy of Two Dynasties states: The five stars of the Eastern Ou constellation are 129 degrees from the southwest star, entering the Zhang constellation by 7 degrees. [4]
Song History (1346)
The five stars of Dongou are located to the south of Yi Su constellation; they represent southern barbarian stars. The Tianwen Lu says: “Dongou refers to Dongyue, now Yongning County, Yongjia Prefecture.” If these stars display 芒角 (radiant projections) or vibrate and move, southern barbarians rebel. If Venus or Mars remains over this region for an extended period, warfare occurs in that location.
According to the Jin Zhi records, the five stars of Dongou are outside of the Twenty-Eight Mansions; the Qian Xiang Xin Shu classifies them as part of the Zhang Su constellation. Wu Mi’s work associates them with Yi Su, aligning with the description in the “Bu Tian Ge.” [5]
