Li Gong Asterism – Resting Palace

The 13th Chinese lunar mansion is named 室 Shi, meaning “Room” or “Encampment.” It contains 11 asterisms from the constellations Aquarius, Pisces and Pegasus.

The second asterism of this lunar mansion is also called 離宮 Li Gong, “Resting Palace.” It represents the Emperor’s Palace outside the capital city, and is composed of six stars in the constellation Pegasus. [1]

The six stars of the Li Palace (離宮) are paired opposite each other, flanking the upper star of Room, representing the emperor’s separate palace and a place of hiding and rest. [2]

The Asterism Li Gong

23♓03 to 01♈59

The asterism Li Gong, the Resting Palace, represents the Detached Palace, also called the Summer or Winter Palace. It was a permanent residence built by ancient Chinese emperors outside the capital, and also a temporary palace used by ancient emperors during tours.

Their functions encompassed entertainment, religious worship, military affairs, and the deposition of officials. The layout of the detached palace is characterized by its emphasis on the supremacy of imperial power, clear functional zoning, and strong religious elements. [3]
