Asterism Nu – Girl

The 10th Chinese lunar mansion is named 女宿 Nu Xiu, “Girl Mansion.” It is the third of the seven mansions of the Black Tortoise of the North.

The first asterism of the Girl Mansion is also called 女 Nu. It resembles a winnowing basket and is composed of four stars in the constellation Aquarius. [1]

Constellation Nu the Girl

People born under the sign of the Girl are helpful, well-suited to learning specialized skills, quick-thinking, and will strive diligently for their beliefs. Their setbacks often stem from their strong-willed nature, lack of tact, or being too frank.

The day when the female constellation is in charge is auspicious; construction and building will be successful, burial and marriage will be held on this day, and within three years, one will acquire land and property.

It belongs to the Earth element and is associated with the character “幅” fú, “bat”. It is the third constellation in the north, and its star cluster is shaped like a winnowing basket or the character “女” (nǚ). If Jupiter afflicts Xu Nu, the empress and concubines rejoice, and foreign countries offer women; if it guards Xu Nu, there will be floods, national famine, loss, high grain prices, and great disaster for the people.

If Mars afflicts Nu, ministers and the empress worry, cloth prices are high, and the people suffer great disaster; if it guards Nu, the people are uneasy, crops fail, the people fall ill, women die, and there will be war; if it enters Xu Nu, grain prices are high; if it retrogrades and afflicts Xu Nu, ministers worry; if it is in the sun, it is joyful; if it is in the shadows, it is worrying.

When Saturn invades the constellation, there will be oppressive rule, floods, destruction of houses, and women visiting the palace. Later, the emperor will seize power, and many bewitching women will appear. If the emperor stays for fifty days, the people will flee.

When Venus invades the constellation, cloth will be expensive, war will break out, and many widows will appear. If the emperor stays, women will die, and the army will be mobilized.

When Mercury invades the constellation, there will be famine and illness among the people. If the emperor stays, there will be floods, a general amnesty, fire in the south, water in the north, war, and expensive cloth.

When a guest star invades the constellation, war will break out, and women will cause chaos. If the emperor stays, palace women will be worried, feudal lords will wage war, the Yangtze and Huai rivers will be blocked, and grain will be expensive.

When a comet invades the constellation, war will break out, and women will cause chaos. If it appears, there will be war and chaos, floods, and expensive rice and salt. When a comet appears, war will break out, women will cause chaos, and strange women will appear. If it appears or disappears, the country will be in trouble, and the king will dislike it.

When a meteor invades the constellation, the emperor will take in a beautiful woman, and it is also said that a noblewoman will be imprisoned. If it appears or disappears, the female ruler will die. For the divination of the year Yi Si: If the meteor’s appearance is yellowish-brown, a concubine will be established; if it is white, a concubine in the harem will die.

The woman, eleven degrees, nine feet below the midline of the sun and moon, is the lesser treasury of heaven. It is called the “needle woman” because “needle” is a term for a lowly concubine, representing a humble position within women’s work, and it governs the position of women. This star resembles the pattern of women’s work, governing cloth, tailoring, and marriage.

A bright star signifies abundance and flourishing women’s work; a dim star indicates a depleted national treasury; a shifting star signifies misfortune for women, with many deaths in childbirth and the dethronement of empresses.

Solar and lunar eclipses signify national distress.

If Mars afflicts it, women will die; if Venus (Metal) afflicts it, disaster will occur.

If Saturn afflicts it, silkworms will be damaged.

A lunar halo signifies misfortune for women.

It is also said that if Mercury guards it, all things will fail to grow.

If Mars guards it, cloth will be expensive, but many will die.
