Chesi the Commodity Market

The Che Si (Carriage Market) star official belongs to the Tian Shi Yuan constellation. The Carriage Market refers to a shop selling general merchandise, or sometimes it refers to a cart shop. Its English name is Commodity Market.
Its name comes from Zhang Heng’s Zhou Tian Xiang Da Fu: “There is a high wall in the middle, which is named Tian Shi or Che Si.”
The Book of Sui, Treatise on Astronomy, states that “the two stars inside the left star of the market gate are called the Chesi (车肆).”
The Bu Tian Ge states, “The two stars to the left of the gate are the carriage market.”
The Book of Sui, Treatise on Astronomy, records: “The two stars inside the left star of the market gate are called the Carriage Market, which governs the area of merchants.” [2]
Ma Duanlin (1317)
The two stars of the Carriage Market, located inside the south gate of the Heavenly Market Enclosure, govern carriages. If dim, all carriages in the country will travel. According to the Sui Shu, they govern the area of merchants. [3]
Song History (1346)
The two stars of the Chesi (车肆) are in the center of Tian Shi Men (Celestial Market Gate), governing a wide variety of goods and commodities. If these stars are not clearly visible, all carriages will be in motion; if they are clearly visible, it is auspicious. If a guest star or comet guards this area, all military chariots will be mobilized. According to the Qianxiang Xinshu (乾象新书), it is slightly east of the south gate of the Tianshi enclosure. [4]
