Asterism Niandao – Imperial Passageway

The 9th Chinese lunar mansion is named 牛宿 Niu Su, “Ox Mansion.” It is the 2nd of the 7 mansions of the Black Tortoise of the North.

The 11th asterism of the Ox Mansion is also called 輦道 Niǎn Dào, “Imperial Passageway.” It represents the road for the Imperial carriage or chariot and is composed of 5 stars of the constellations Cygnus and Lyra. [1]

Niandao the Imperial Passageway

The five stars at the western foot are called the Imperial Carriage Road, the road for the emperor’s leisure activities. When Venus and Mars guard it, the imperial army rises. [2]

Niandao consists of five stars west of Vega, and they govern the royal road for leisure and recreation. The Han dynasty’s chariot road connects the north and south palaces, and this is the celestial counterpart. symbolizing this. When Venus and Mars guard this road, imperial troops rise up. [3]
