Ma Duanlin (1317)
The three stars of the Heavenly Vessel are located south of the Five Princes and govern the provision of gruel and porridge for food and drink. Zhang Heng says it is for the poor and hungry. Brightness indicates abundance, darkness indicates desolation, or some say darkness brings good fortune. [2]
Song History (1346)
Tianzun (the Heavenly Vessel) consists of three stars located south of Wuzhu Hou (Five Feudal Lords), alternatively described as being north of Dongjing (Eastern Well). “Zun” refers to a vessel or container, symbolizing the provision of porridge and food for the poor and hungry. If these stars appear bright, it signifies an abundant harvest; if they are dim, a bad year follows. [3]
