Fixed star Coxa, Theta Leonis, is a star on the hip of the constellation Leo the Lion. Magnitude +3.32, spectral type A2 V.
θ Leo is officially named Chertan.
Applied in recent times from one spelling of the indigenous Arabic lunar mansion name al-khurtän, “the Two Small Ribs (at or near the breast),” for δ and θ Leo. The more common and apparently correct spelling of the lunar mansion name is al-kharātān, of unknown meaning.
or Coxa
From the Latin term “in coxis,” intended as “in the Hips,” originally for θ Leo and the unidentified 21st star of Ptolemy’s Lion constellation. The term was used in a Renaissance translation of a late Islamic star catalog (the latter Persian source, with many terms retained from the Arabic Almagest). The singular “Coxa,” “the Hip,” was then applied as a star name to θ Leo in recent times.
In comparison, the Medieval Latin Almagest consistently used the word coxa to mean “thigh,” not “hip,” and the word appears as such in the constellation Leo in describing the stars ι and σ. Furthermore, our teo stars θ and the 21st of Leo, were poorly described as on the pixis vertibri, “socket of the vertebra” (where vertebrum was intended in the same sense as ancha, a word properly used for “hip” elsewhere in the Medieval Latin Almagest [for example see θ Aqr]). [A Dictionary of Modern Star Names, Kunitzch, Smart, 2006, pp. 42.]
θ Leo belongs to the Chinese asterism Tàiwēiyòuyuán, “Right Wall,” and has the traditional names Tàiwēiyòuyuánsì, “4th star of Right Wall,” Xīcìxiāng, “The Second Western Minister,” and Xītàiyīnmén, “Final gate in the west.” [Leo in Chinese astronomy – Wikipedia.]
In China it was Tsze Seang, the Second Minister of State. Star Names: Their Lore and Meaning, Richard H. Allen, 1889, pp. 262.

Coxa Astrology
The ability to prophesy. On the Euphrates, Coxa and Zosma were Kakkab Kua, the constellation of the god Kua, the Oracle. [1]
The spectral type A2 of fixed star Coxa indicates a Venus nature.
SPECTRAL CLASS A: These bluish-white stars give great honors, artistic appreciation, unexpected gains, good fortune, riches, good judgment, sociableness, creativeness, idealism, and impulsiveness. Challenging aspects cause wantonness, indiscretion, scandals, foolhardiness, destructiveness, cleverness, many anxious moments and self-seeking nature. [2]
Leo Constellation
Ptolemy makes the following observations: “Of the stars in Leo, two in the head are like Saturn and partly like Mars. The three in the neck are like Saturn and, to some degree, like Mercury. Those in the loins, Saturn and Venus. Those in the thighs resemble Venus and, in some degree, Mercury.” It is said that the stars in the neck, back and wing all bring trouble, disgrace and sickness, affecting the part of the body ruled by the sign, especially if they happen to be in conjunction with the Moon. By the Kabalists, Leo is associated with the Hebrew letter Kaph and the 11th Tarot Trump “Strength.” [3]
In mundane astrology, Leo Constellation is associated with royal events, especially the ascension or death of kings and queens, the election or death of heads of state, assassinations, uprisings and massacres, currency and the stock exchange, the Vatican and the European Union.

Interesting. My South Node is on this star and my natal Venus is also in Virgo. It says about problems with Venus. I think, from reading my natal aspects, I had problems with regards to love from my past live/lives. And also, because I’ve continued to have many trials and tribulations with love in this life. Time to investigate my north node star now.
Much closer to Zosma which is a stronger star:
11 ♍ 09 Zosma
11 ♍ 24 South Node
13 ♍ 15 Coxa
I’ve just read about that star. It doesn’t sound very nice at all. It’s nothing like me. My South Node isn’t 11.24, it’s 12.52. I’m not a selfish person at all, as the star describes. In fact – I’ve taken time out from my business to look after my Mum who has been suffering from ill health. I can’t be that selfish. I’ve got another sister who not working, but she’s not interested in looking after my Mum everyday.
With the rate of precission it makes my South Node 13.02 Virgo.
Remember we are talking about your nodes, not the Sun, Moon or AC. Do you use true or mean Node?
I don’t know which one, as I just put my date of birth in cafe astrology and it just said ‘south node.’
Cafe Astrology uses true node and my software is set for mean node. Astro.com also uses true node so I will change over.
moon 14 18″26 in virgo
What does it mean for this fixed star to conjunct with the south node?
hi- thoughts on natal mars conjunct coxa with an orb of 0°24′?
