Theta Leonis is a star on the hip of the Lion, constellation Leo. Since 2016 it has been officailly named Chertan, but has also been known as Chort and Coxa. Chertan is derived from the Arabic al-kharātān ‘two small ribs’, originally referring to Delta Leonis (Zosma) and Theta Leonis. Chort is from the Arabic al-kharāt or al-khurt ‘small rib’, and Coxa is Latin for ‘hip’. In China, this star represents 西次相 (Xīcìxiāng), meaning The Second Western Minister, spelled Tsze Seang by R.H. Allen, meaning “the Second Minister of State”.

Coxa Star Astrology

Fixed star Coxa gives the ability to prophesy. On the Euphrates, Coxa and Zosma, were Kakkab Kua, the constellation of the god Kua, the Oracle. [2] Coxa is of the nature of Saturn and Venus (slovenly, very immoral, shameless, revolting, mean, sorrows in love.)

Leo Constellation

Ptolemy makes the following observations: “Of the stars in Leo, two in the head are like Saturn and partly like Mars. The three in the neck are like Saturn, and in some degree like Mercury. Those in the loins, Saturn and Venus. Those in the thighs resemble Venus, and, in some degree, Mercury.” It is said that the stars in the neck, back and wing all bring trouble, disgrace and sickness affecting the part of the body ruled by the sign, especially if they happen to be in conjunction with the Moon. By the Kabalists, Leo is associated with the Hebrew letter Kaph and the 11th Tarot Trump “Strength.” [1]

In mundane astrology Leo Constellation is associated with royal events especially the ascension or death of kings and queens, the election or death of heads of state, assassinations, uprisings and massacres, currency and the stock exchange, the Vatican and European Union.

11th Arabic Manzil – Al Zubrah

Good for voyages, gain by merchandise, redemption of captives.

With Moon: Plant, marry but do not navigate.

26th Chinese Xiù – 張 (Zhāng) Extended Net

The name of this mansion is taken to mean “spreading”, like a net. Associated with festivities, such as after a good hunt (game collected for a feast). As it was customary to bring presents on such occasions, this mansion indicated gifts/presents.

Right conduct is rewarded. It brings harmonious relationships and rewards due to industriousness such as promotion and salary increase. Good for family reunions and acquiring new property. It also presages the sickness of the authority figure.

  1. Interesting. My South Node is on this star and my natal Venus is also in Virgo. It says about problems with Venus. I think, from reading my natal aspects, I had problems with regards to love from my past live/lives. And also, because I’ve continued to have many trials and tribulations with love in this life. Time to investigate my north node star now.

    • Much closer to Zosma which is a stronger star:

      11 ♍ 09 Zosma
      11 ♍ 24 South Node
      13 ♍ 15 Coxa

      • I’ve just read about that star. It doesn’t sound very nice at all. It’s nothing like me. My South Node isn’t 11.24, it’s 12.52. I’m not a selfish person at all, as the star describes. In fact – I’ve taken time out from my business to look after my Mum who has been suffering from ill health. I can’t be that selfish. I’ve got another sister who not working, but she’s not interested in looking after my Mum everyday.

        • Remember we are talking about your nodes, not the Sun, Moon or AC. Do you use true or mean Node?

          • I don’t know which one, as I just put my date of birth in cafe astrology and it just said ‘south node.’

            • Cafe Astrology uses true node and my software is set for mean node. Astro.com also uses true node so I will change over.
