New Moon July 17, 2023 – Dignified Malevolence

New Moon July 2023 Astrology

The New Moon in Cancer on 17 July 2023 aligns with a powerful star that acts like Mars. So the meaning of the New Moon July 2023 astrology is to harness your anger and channel it into hard work and achievement.

The July 2023 New Moon is also influenced by Mars opposite Saturn. This frustrating aspect reinforces the need to use self-discipline, patience, and determination to channel aggression.

New Moon July 2023 Horoscope

The New Moon on Monday, July 17, 2023, is at 24°56′ Cancer. That tells us that the Sun is conjunct the Moon, the most potent single influence in astrology.

The New Moon horoscope below shows the Sun and Moon aspected by Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. But their influence is weak because they are outer planets, and the aspect orbs are well over two degrees.

Mercury square Jupiter will have a noticeable effect on the New Moon. And so should Mars opposite Saturn. Unlike most other aspects, this opposition is applying (getting stronger).

New Moon July 2023 Astrology

Sun conjunct Moon represents the end of one cycle and the beginning of another new 28-day cycle. It gives a refreshing burst of energy and initiative. But it also brings emotional balance, not irrationally emotional, and not too cold and calculating.

So the New Moon in Cancer 2023 is excellent for making a fresh start, turning over a new leaf, or starting a new project. You can also question old habits, behaviors, and beliefs while searching for new and inventive ways to progress.

New Moon Aspects

Mercury square Jupiter brings high hopes for the future, with a positive and broad outlook. But focusing on the more minor details is crucial. A lack of concentration, or inability to focus, may lead to some errors of judgment or mistakes.

A tendency toward overconfidence or excess may manifest through words such as arrogance, boastfulness or bigotry. Don’t promise too much or overestimate your abilities when planning for the future.

Mars opposite Saturn makes “frustration” a significant keyword for the July 2023 New Moon. It brings the potential for frustration from other people standing in your way and disappointment from unfulfilled desires. You may feel weak, inadequate or unattractive.

If anger or resentment builds up, release it through sustained efforts like exercise or hard work. Self-discipline, patience, and steely determination can lead to satisfying results. Sharpen your knives. Don’t use them.

The Constellations

The July 2023 New Moon is in the Sign of Cancer. But as the image below shows, it is in the Constellation of Gemini. The Signs and the Constellations do not match up. Over the last 2000 years, the Constellations have moved nearly 30° out of alignment with the Signs because of the precession of the equinoxes.

The Zodiac was invented only as a measuring device. The ecliptic line in the image below matches the degrees in the horoscope above. Like the original astrologers, I use the Constellations and fixed stars for interpretation, not the Signs.

New Moon July 2023 Meaning

New Moon July 2023 [Stellarium]

The July 2023 New Moon sits between the bright stars, Pollux and Procyon. Although Procyon is closer by degree, Pollux has the stronger influence on the New Moon astrology. The Sun and Moon have already passed Pollux, absorbing its full potential. These two stars are pretty similar, anyway. Pollux is like Mars, and Procyon is like Mars and Mercury.

23♋32 – Beta Geminorum, Pollux
24♋56 – New Moon July 2023
26♋06 – Alpha Canis Minoris, Procyon

The Boxer

Fixed star Pollux gives a subtle, crafty, spirited, brave, audacious, cruel and rash nature, a love of boxing, dignified malevolence, and is connected with poisons. It represents Pollux, the immortal one of the twins, famous for his skill in boxing. Of the nature of Mars, it is symbolically named “A Heartless Judge.” [1]

Pollux has always been considered to portend eminence and renown. The energy of Mars can be extremely valuable in such areas as war, business, and politics. [2]

Pollux, also called Hercules and “the wicked boy” of The Twins, has a strongly felt Martian nature. It is brutal and tyrannical, violent and cruel if in conjunction with the Sun or Moon. [3]

Pollux is a Mars star, appropriate for the twin who killed the other. It certainly can show an aptitude for getting into quarrels, but in a well-configured situation, it also denotes a power of penetration on the mental plane. [4]

With Moon: Hatred of the vulgar, ill-will of women, danger from thieves, violent death, power, pride, sickness, calamity, wounds, imprisonment, injuries to the face, defective sight or blindness. [1] A splendid and illustrious life; great, distinguished and opulent nature. [5]

With Sun: Occult and theosophical interests, blows, stabs, serious accidents, shooting, shipwreck, murderer or murdered, extreme sickness and diseases, fevers, ailments affecting the stomach, homosexual, riches and honor but final ruin, blindness, injuries to head and face, quarrels, rape committed or suffered, banishment, imprisonment for embezzling, violent death, decapitation. [1]

New Moon July 2023 Meaning

Mars heavily influences the July 17 New Moon astrology because of the star Pollux and Mars opposite Saturn. So this New Moon is energizing and can propel you to success. Sun conjunct Moon represents a fresh start and new goals. Mars represents your goal-directed energy.

This New Moon gives energy, initiative and courage. It favors success in competitive or aggressive fields like business, politics and sports. This combination also creates much anger, resentment and frustration. So this is a good New Moon for success in acts of violence like fighting and war.

The term “dignified malevolence,” whatever it means, seems a good description for a New Moon conjunct Pollux and Mars opposite Saturn. Conor McGregor has fixed star Pollux conjunct Sun (1°15′), Moon (0°01′) and IC (1°26′), and also Mars square Saturn (2°29′.)

Success will be more likely if you channel this volatile energy into hard work and achievement. Even if you aim to hurt people, you should avoid overconfidence and boastfulness. Focus instead on self-discipline, patience, and steely determination.

The influence of the July 17 New Moon lasts four weeks up to the August 16 New Moon. The best time for starting new projects is during the two-week waxing moon phase, from July 17 to the August 1 Full Moon.

  1. My mercury is exactly 24.56 in Cancer in the 12th house. Ruler of my 12th is in the 5th.

  2. ‘Astrology King’, it’s long past time to clean up your act! If you’re going to put yourself out there in the name of Astrology– otherwise, you’re simply deluding others along with yourself.
Auditing your site over some time, one can’t help but notice your emphasis on the negative– images, words, perspectives: Just a sampling of the plethora of
unnecessary & unwelcome descriptions you throw out there, herein– “rape committed”, “dignified malevolence (whatever it means”), “Even if you aim to hurt people”…..

I ask you to reflect on how any of this really helps people (when so many are in need of help these days and look to astrology– many of your words just add to the climate of confusion, chaos & bad vibes).
So, stop being a “drama dragon”, stop with the archaic references to meanings, which are overloaded with ill-will interpretations just being senselessly piled onthe reader. Doing such is simply the lazy astrologer’s low road. Yes, while Mars meanings IS martial, aggressive, antagonistic, etc. Mars also has many beneficial meanings (as do all planets, points, cycles, eclipses, etc.) Mars can & does mean energetic, courageous, pioneering, protector, advocate, etc. Time to drop the useless, silly (& often harmful) dramatic invectives and interpret rightly, for 21st C. human evolving; not to set yourself up as the ‘king of’ and mislead people seeking astrological truths to understand their lives better, so that they can make better outcomes of them.
While you DO state some actual knowledgeable information (e.g. providing the actual degrees of each new & full moons, fixed star positions that may effect the phases, planetary aspects, orbs of influence, etc. the rest– the negative imagery & archaic gobbly-gook has got to go, man!
Think about what you’re doing– how your affecting other people’s views, and lowering astrological standards..
I hope you take this to heart and…
    “clean the machine, king!!

    • Oh dear. Every other astrology website will tell you how the New Moon in Cancer makes you compassionate, intuitive, and protective. Not here!

      • Sounds to me I better get cracking writing the book. Gather up a few hundred clay tablets, chip away, chip away. I know someone who seems qualified, IT experience, several languages, and linguist, local yocal. Do a survey or two. Recall I tried to do this before the proofs and donation that ended up in the Guggenheim.

      • JAMIE .. I had not realized this, but I see that New Moon (Sun/Moon Conjunction) was almost exactly CONJUNCT my Midheaven at 24˚08′ Cancer. What on earth could this mean in terms of my 10th House matters? Some kind of new beginning, but to what end? By the way, I appreciate you presenting both sides of the Astrology equation. As most honest, impartial people know, the truth sword cuts both ways. So, presenting the positive side as well as the negative is just plain realistic. If this fella above needs a teddy bear, please somebody get him one.

      • “Oh dear. Every other astrology website will tell you how the New Moon in Cancer makes you compassionate, intuitive, and protective. Not here!”

My critique nowwhere promotes ‘an astrology of flowers ‘n’ fairies & angel dust’. That doesn’t help either & is another mislead as to what astrology stands for & means. Nor can such be called astrology– a star system that would genuinely address more challenging aspects & yet, not descend into despair– leaving humanity “no hope”….
So, to resort to this simplistic “either/or” mindset or rebuttal doesn’t help. Yes, oh dear!
Astrology, an being extremely nuanced cosmic system, as such, cannot be simply ‘either/or’ to be of any genuine help.
It is not for entertainment purposes (though, so many useit/see it as such!) but to help in human understanding & evolving.
What astrology IS– a valid & awesome science/art/system/ language– is essentially a cosmic/divine GIFT! Thus,a gift to be used rightly by the sincere astrologer. I stand by my critique, King, repeating my request to contemplate what you’re saying.

  3. I’d rather be warned of the pitfalls than be given all hearts and flowers and romance!

  4. How to use the energy in a positive manner was suggested. Maybe it’s just me, but the levels in experiencing the energies is the great thing about astrology.

  5. Well, this is bizarre. Haven’t had icky new moons in awhile. Past victimizations come flooding forth. New moon within 2 degrees of natal venus. So good thing I am not a vengeful person eh? I focus on being a survivor, but do kinduv live like a refugee sometimes. I think this new moon Venus thing is a setup for Venus stationing within 1 degree of natal Pluto midheaven. And all I know about Venus Pluto people is that they want to own me. So I am not angry in review, just confused a bit because normally I don’t think about this stuff, ie. It doesn’t own me.

    • With water signs, vengeance. Air signs, vindictive, Earth signs, remembrance, and Fire wants to burn. General malovence of the Elements, a review at dignity New Moon.

  6. Eris, the planet if discord. When this word shows up, like when someone says: “Sowing discord”, you might want to look at the cluster bombs in your chart.

    https://postimg.cc/RWhXzZKx

Solomon Seal or Hexagram, progressed chart with July 19 transits.

A few highlights: Moon has now formed a sextile with Pluto, and Yod with Saturn. Eris in sextile to Part of Fortune. Ixion sextile to Galactic Center, Yod to Ceres/Algol apex

When the progressed Moon is at the apex of a yod, fast moving, and many different sextile combinations… that is pandemic territory, as was the case in Age of Aquarius chart.

In my progressed chart these days, its mostly the case of deciphering certain political language. So its a fortunate thing i look at the prevailing discord. Yods in my chart, and in mundane, are bombs. We get to look at the Solomon seal again without lurching.

or maybe lurch about in a minor way: Mean North node transit 19 July, 29Ari40, Solar eclipse degree.

  7. So my ascendant is at 21 degrees cancer castor and pollux fixed stars. I’ve thought about naming a band after them. Lol anyway. Dignified malevolence is interesting in a world as of today being heavily influenced. Have a great day everyone!

  8. @paulfstreppel: ‘deciphering political language’. You are so naturally funny sometimes.

  9. Never thought i’d be saying I really like this mars Saturn energy. In touch with pure unadulterated strength. Strength as opposed to performing strength. Now I can let those performances slough off. Working astrology so freeing. Ahhhh

  10. I am stuck thinking about the above critique of this. Astrologers have an area of study and have aright to their methods. To me a bad astrology site is the one that blocks me without notice. How hard is it to drop an email saying ‘it’s time to go.’ I get that. I understand. No offense taken

The sites I don’t like are thrones that doc their harpies on me. Those harpies aren’t winged, they slither around. Overly intense loyalist to their host thriving on imaginary danger. They are very obvious right off the bat on some sites. But on others they are more covert, like bugging my computer. Or imagine my surprise when I found a stranger in my garage digging through things quoting commentary I made on the site. She would not leave. I could not say it is time for you to go, but get the eff off the property. An astrologer, who by the way I really respect for being a straight shooter, once commented ‘you wouldn’t believe what goes on behind the scenes at some of these astrology sites. I have an idea. But there is always behind the scenes. at every job I worked. Even my bio unit, I was 50 before I found out the behind the scenes there. Just got to focus on what I’m doing. That other stuff is nuts to me.

So that’s what I consider bad astrology site to be.

  11. Now that this New Moon has been and gone, I can testify that it was (rather) horrible – so glad I was warned and consequently managed to cope.
You absolutely ROCK, Jamie! Thankyou for this post.
