Copula Star Astrology
It is of the nature of the Moon and Venus, and causes blindness, defective eyesight, strong passions, hindrances and disappointments. [1]
The third star in the Hunting Dogs, less easily visible, is the ‘Whirlpool Galaxy’, M51, above the two dogs and appearing in some illustrations as the leash by which Bootes holds them. Unlike the dogs themselves, this Galaxy did attract attention in earlier times, being then called Copula, A Thong or Leash, as though anticipating the role it was to play later in history.
Copula is almost conjunct Chara, Cor Caroli, so we must take Ptolemy’s Moon-Venus simile for it, unique in his listings, to apply to both the galaxy and the star. We might suppose from this very feminine and peaceable simile that Diana or Bootes must have the dogs out for an afternoon stroll, rather than for hunting, but its reputation in astrology is certainly more potent than that, and, as usual, not very auspicious.
Like Alkaid only two degrees beyond it, Copula often signifies the potential for taking public office, but there is certainly a note of misfortune if the holder allows Moon-Venus to symbolize the making of quick personal fortune from it. Nothing in Virgo permits that kind of corruption without penalty. But, excluding that temptation, Copula and Alkaid (and Labrum, between the two) can signify great respect given to the individual for services well given. [2]
Copula star rules the back of the right lung in the human body. [3]
Constellation Canes Venatici
Canes Venaticic gives a love of hunting and a penetrating mind, making those born under it faithful, keen, clever and fond of speculation. [1]

Mercury conjunct Copula (0°30′ orb): This tends to have an irritating affect on the back of the lungs. They suffer quite frequently because their breathing is difficult on the right lung. The right lung is usually weaker than the left, and the remains of respiratory infections settle on the right side. This can be alleviated by drinking strong, hot chamomile tea as this herb is very good for the lungs. [3]
Venus conjunct Copula (0°30′ orb): This does not cause health problems. These persons are usually working with communications and can be those who sell products in a pleasant way. They are in harmonious situations when selling goods or services and are excellent in this type of occupation. They are not generally salespersons in flea markets but are on a much higher professional level such as advertising promotions on radio or television. They are good at picking up bargains because of their line of business. [3]
Mars conjunct Copula: Louis XVI 0°13′
Jupiter conjunct Copula: Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán 0°08′
Saturn conjunct Copula (0°30′ orb): This is similar to the Mercury placement and affects the lungs in the same manner. The breathing is restricted as the elasticity of the lungs is affected causing a tightness and other complications. They are always trying to catch their breath or straining to breathe so that many resort to mouth-breathing. Drinking hot and strong chamomile tea would help alleviate much of this problem. [3]
