Fixed Star Alhena

Gemini Constellation [Stellarium]

The Sun joins Alhena on June 30

Fixed star Alhena, Gamma Geminorum, is a spectroscopic binary star system on the left foot of the Southern Twin in Gemini Constellation. Magnitude 1.91, Spectral type A1IV + G.

The tradition name Alhena comes from the Arabic word الهنعه (Al Han’ah) which means The Brand (on the neck of the camel). Another name was Almeisan, from the Arabic المیسان (Al Maisan) which means The Shining One.

ALHENA. γ Geminorum. A brilliant white star in the left foot of the Southern Twin, often called Bright Foot of Gemini. From Al Han’ah, a Brand or Mark burnt in. According to Bullinger it means “hurt, wounded or afflicted”, and it has been called “the wound in the tendon Achilles.” [1]

Alhena Astrology

According to Ptolemy it is of the nature of Mercury and Venus, but Alvidas gives Moon and Venus. It bestows imminence in art, but gives liability to accidents effecting the feet. [1]

The bright star Alhena is of the nature of Venus. it is said to give eminence in art. [2]

Alhena, which is situated on the baseline of the constellation Gemini, is supposed to have a Venus nature with a Jupiterian influence. This will confer a spiritual orientation on people thus effected and also give an artistic inclination, with interest in the sciences. [3]

ALHENA. γ Geminorum. A white star on the twins left foot. “A Brand, a Ring.” Spectral class A1. The native is refined, lovable, affable, artistic, subject to honors and riches, has a quick mind and a love of ease. [6]

Alhena, γ Geminorum, means an identifying mark on a horse or camel, made with tar-paint. An earlier name was Almeisan – one who marches proudly – but this was apparently dropped as several stars carried the same name. Nonetheless, it seems right for a prominent star in the Feet of the Twins. Popular astrology has associated this star especially with accidents to the feet, loving to make the worst of every star it can blame for something or other, but it seems quite unnecessary to use Alhena for this purpose, since right opposite to it in the Zodiac is Facies, equally associated with accidents – and with more reason, since Ptolemy rates it a Sun-Mars type whereas Alhena is a more peaceable Mercury-Venus. We should perhaps have remarked sooner that in astrology a star is found to show its influence both at its own location and right opposite to it. From a combination of Alhena’s placing in its Constellation and in Sign, (Cancer), and the Ptolemaic simile for it, it is not hard to guess that this star should show up our artistic skills, especially with the written or spoken word, and abilities to negotiate a peaceful solution to disputes among people. And so indeed it does. We get to the roots of problems and move matters forward from there, and gaining ‘identity’, distinction, that is, for our efforts. All three stars, the two Tejats and Alhena, fill the first 10°, or Decan, of the Cardinal Sign Cancer, into which they entered in 1349, 1621 and 1755 A.D. respectively. Each of these dates, within a year or two, was significant in the rise of European thought and literature from the Renaissance onwards. [4]

Alhena rules one inch to the right of the breastbone. [5]

Constellation Gemini

Gemini is said to cause trouble and disgrace, sickness, loss of fortune, affliction and danger to the knees. [1]

Astrologers assigned to this constellation guardianship over human hands, arms, and shoulders; while Albumasar held that it portended intense devotion, genius, largeness of mind, goodness, and liberality. Considered the House of Mercury and a fortunate sign. Chinese astrologers asserted that if this constellation were invaded by Mars, war and a poor harvest would ensue. [2]

Mercury conjunct Alhena: Popularity, benefits from opposite sex, musical and artistic ability but little fame, domestic harmony, business adversely affected by pleasure and society. [1]

Natives with this conjunction prefer pleasures and social activities. Unhappy situations can develop for these natives in either business or domestic affairs. Natives born under this conjunction tend to be headstrong, or determined to do it their way, even though they might appear to listen to reason. There may be some evidence of talent in music or the arts, but generally these natives will never find success in such careers, however, those that chose music or the arts as careers and become successful will never be at peace within themselves. [6]

This is the nurturing personality. These individuals are concerned with the needs of others. This is generally overdone since it is on their minds continuously. It is difficult for them to discuss other topics other than the needs of others. For example, their conversations would dwell on what someone had for dinner, what they are going to have for breakfast, and what they may have the next day for lunch. The topic of conversation would involve food. These are the persons who would delight in writing a cookbook. [5]

There is the possibility of domestic or other problems with this conjunction, more so with negative nativities. Violence or sublime illness possible. [6]

John Maynard Keynes 1°01′, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez 1°31′, Catherine the Great 2°05′, Rupert Murdoch 2°20′

Saturn conjunct Alhena: Caution, reserve, studiousness, prominence in science or art, some domestic discord, sickness to the children, unexpected losses but possibility of wealth, ill-health at the end of life. [1]

This can be a difficult problem. These persons deny themselves security in order to give their children everything. This is the nurturing parent who does without; denying themselves self-expression and material things in order that their children may have all the things they demand. This can lead to depressions after forty years of age when they find they have denied themselves many things in life, and now their children have little to do with them. [5]
