The Sun joins Alhena on June 30

Fixed star Alhena, Gamma Geminorum, is a 1.9 magnitude brilliant white star located on the left foot of the Southern Twin Pollux in Gemini Constellation. The tradition name Alhena comes from the Arabic word الهنعه (Al Han’ah) which means The Brand (on the neck of the camel). Another name was Almeisan, from the Arabic المیسان (Al Maisan) which means The Shining One.

Fixed Star Alhena Astrology

Fixed star Alhena is of the nature of Mercury and Venus (courteous, affable, orderly, elegant, sweet-tempered, lovable, refined, artistic, honor and riches). It bestows eminence in art, but gives liability to accidents effecting the feet. Often called Bright Foot of Gemini. According to Bullinger it means “hurt, wounded or afflicted”, and it has been called “the wound in the tendon Achilles.” [1]

The bright star Alhena is of the nature of Venus. it is said to give eminence in art. [2]

Alhena, which is situated on the baseline of the constellation Gemini, is supposed to have a Venus nature with a Jupiterian influence. This will confer a spiritual orientation on people thus effected and also give an artistic inclination, with interest in the sciences. [3]

Alhena, γ Geminorum, means an identifying mark on a horse or camel, made with tar-paint. An earlier name was Almeisan – one who marches proudly – but this was apparently dropped as several stars carried the same name. Nonetheless, it seems right for a prominent star in the Feet of the Twins. Popular astrology has associated this star especially with accidents to the feet, loving to make the worst of every star it can blame for something or other, but it seems quite unnecessary to use Alhena for this purpose, since right opposite to it in the Zodiac is Facies, equally associated with accidents – and with more reason, since Ptolemy rates it a Sun-Mars type whereas Alhena is a more peaceable Mercury-Venus. We should perhaps have remarked sooner that in astrology a star is found to show its influence both at its own location and right opposite to it.

From a combination of Alhena’s placing in its Constellation and in Sign, (Cancer), and the Ptolemaic simile for it, it is not hard to guess that this star should show up our artistic skills, especially with the written or spoken word, and abilities to negotiate a peaceful solution to disputes among people. And so indeed it does. We get to the roots of problems and move matters forward from there, and gaining ‘identity’, distinction, that is, for our efforts.

All three stars, the two Tejats and Alhena, fill the first 10°, or Decan, of the Cardinal Sign Cancer, into which they entered in 1349, 1621 and 1755 A.D. respectively. Each of these dates, within a year or two, was significant in the rise of European thought and literature from the Renaissance onwards. [4]

Alhena rules one inch to the right of the breastbone in the human body. [5]

Constellation Gemini

Gemini is said to cause trouble and disgrace, sickness, loss of fortune, affliction and danger to the knees. [1]

Those born within Gemini will be crafty in the good sense of the word, in all their works and in all their tasks. Among them will be writers, mathematicians, astronomers, and famous sages. They will be truthful individuals and moderate in their fear of God. In terms of children, the Gemini are specially charged with the production of twins. Gemini was given the name “many-faced” in ancient times because it denotes not only twins, but three or more children at a single birth.

The Gemini produces a generous and chaste personality. Individuals excelling in games and fond of philosophy and astronomy are also indicative of Gemini, as are also those who are magnanimous, munificent, and (sometimes) violent. Modern astrologers attribute the following to the Gemini: clever, intuitive, restless, heartlessness, undependability, inquisitive, lack of perseverance, and sometimes too clever. Classicists say that the Geminian follow the professions of kings, calculators, teachers, hunters, dancers, musicians, painters, and tailors. The Modernists add: journalists, novelists, lecturers, linguists, commercial travelers, and pupils. [6]

Astrologers assigned to this constellation guardianship over human hands, arms, and shoulders; while Albumasar held that it portended intense devotion, genius, largeness of mind, goodness, and liberality. Considered the House of Mercury and a fortunate sign. Chinese astrologers asserted that if this constellation were invaded by Mars, war and a poor harvest would ensue. [2]

6th Arabic Manzil – Al-Han’ah

Favorable for hunting, besieging towns, and the revenge of princes, destroys harvests and fruits, and hinders the operation of the physician.

With Moon: Plough, sow, but do not travel.

22nd Chinese Xiù – 井 (Jǐng) Well

This is the head of the Phoenix. Associated with beauty, water, navigation at sea, hygiene, cleaning, repairs, and refurbishments. Because of the association of cleanliness with Godliness (virtue), this mansion also presides over law and order, moral uprightness and cleansing of moral wrongs.

The luck in this mansion is said to vary because of the conflict of the elements involved. Labor is rewarded, while idleness is sanctioned. It is good for taking exams, tending to herbivorous animals and all types of industriousness. It is very good for gardening and widows. Bad for funerals because of the risk of epidemics and sudden death, though, and all projects in progress should be worked on instead of being put aside.

This is the nurturing personality. These individuals are concerned with the needs of others. This is generally overdone since it is on their minds continuously. It is difficult for them to discuss other topics other than the needs of others. For example, their conversations would dwell on what someone had for dinner, what they are going to have for breakfast, and what they may have the next day for lunch. The topic of conversation would involve food. These are the persons who would delight in writing a cookbook. [5]

This can be a difficult problem. These persons deny themselves security in order to give their children everything. This is the nurturing parent who does without; denying themselves self-expression and material things in order that their children may have all the things they demand. This can lead to depressions after forty years of age when they find they have denied themselves many things in life, and now their children have little t do with them. [5]

Nikola Tesla 1°31′

Uranus conjunct Alhena: Timid, suspicious, selfish, economical over small things and extravagant in large ones, emotional, vacillating, unpractical and much influenced by habits, easily hypnotized, occult interests and secret psychic ability, afflicted with Cancerian ailments, two or more marriages, one very early and extremely unhappy especially if female, unfavorable for home and children. 1. You forgot Pluto! My mother has IC 9 Cancer with Pluto 9:03. She inherited a genetic disease, Charot Marie Tooth disease. She walked like a duck, slapping her feet down. I have MC 9 Cancer – we hate each other.

    • I had to laugh reading this sorry Marcy. I was hoping people would share their stories especially with Pluto because the planet was discovered after most fixed stars writings.

  2. My progressed Ascendent is going to conjunct Alhena next month. Any thoughts on what this could mean?

  3. Mercury 8Cancer19 9th house, in trine with Neptune 8Scorpio45 1st house, sometimes very hard to know whether a blessing or a curse, because sometimes I my words are inspiring and a blessing to some, sometimes they seem to fill others with fear and trigger a determination to assassinate my character, its a strange one indeed, thus I completely trust my intuition as to what to say, when and how much lol!

I find this to be very accurate and have noted this star to be prominent in Truth seekers with intense devotion to Spirit.
“laying the heart at the feet of the Master” so to speak. Interesting that this star is located at the feet of Pollux, which is associated with the decent of the Avatar or the Teacher of Teachers.

In particular, Mars, Chiron and the Moon I have noted commonly in the charts of these deeply devoted and spiritually oriented souls who’s main intention is renunciation and sacrifice for Humanity.
