Full Moon March 2023 Astrology

Sun opposite Moon brings your home, family, and intimate relationships into sharper focus for the following two weeks of this moon phase. Opposing forces, such as work versus home or what you need versus what you want, create inner tension and external pressures. This can lead to conflict and crises that drain your energy.

The lunar qualities of emotions and instincts peak at a Full Moon. So use your increased emotional strength and intuition to overcome any relationship challenges. Subconscious awareness allows for an honest and balanced look at your relationships. You will see any relationship dynamics or negative feelings causing disharmony.

Full Moon Aspects

Full Moon trine Uranus lowers your inhibitions, allowing you to express your feelings more openly. It also lowers restrictions to give you greater freedom and independence. Leaving your comfort zone brings change and excitement without causing upset and chaos.

Heightened intuition and self-awareness allow you to act more spontaneously. And with more flexibility and open-mindedness, you can quickly take advantage of new opportunities and benefit from changing conditions. New experiences, discoveries and adventures are possible.

This is a good time to initiate progressive change and try something new. You could meet people from different ethnic or cultural backgrounds than yourself. This is also a good time to break bad habits and leave boring or unhealthy relationships.

Full Moon quincunx Venus increases your need for love and affection. But it can also increase relationship tension because of an imbalance involving emotional support and love. If the amount of love received is not the same as the amount given, tension will escalate to a tipping point or a crisis to restore the balance. This can range from an argument to a love affair, depending on how serious the issues are.

A personal imbalance is also possible involving self-love. You may seek emotional comfort in sweet food, alcohol or drugs. Whether you are single or in a relationship, you will find it increasingly difficult to satisfy your emotional needs by substituting love for another sweet desire. The continual build-up and then release of tension may become a recurring problem.

The Constellations

Full Moon March 2023 is in the Sign of Virgo. But as the star map below shows, it is located in the Constellation of Leo. This discrepancy is due to the precession of the equinoxes.

Over the last 2000 years, the Constellations have moved nearly 30° out of alignment with the Signs. The Zodiac was invented only as a measuring device (see the ecliptic line below). Astrologers always used visible constellations and their stars for interpretation.

Full Moon March 7 2023 [Stellarium]

The March 7 Full Moon aligns with three named stars, as shown below.

  • 16♍02 – Zeta Ursae Majoris, Mizar
  • 16♍12 – 80 Ursae Majoris, Alcor
  • 16♍40 – Full Moon March 2023
  • 17♍12 – 92 Leonis, Congguan

Constellation Ursa Major

Ursa Major gives a quiet, prudent, suspicious, mistrustful, self-controlled, patient nature but an uneasy spirit and great anger and revengefulness when roused. [1]

Astrologically both Bears were said to presage an evil influence. They are particularly injurious as regards the affairs of nations and kings. [2]

Mizar and Alcor

Supposedly, Mizar portends a Mars nature. The reputation of Mizar, if it is in maximal position in a mundane map, is that of being connected with fires of a catastrophic extent and mass calamities. [3] (Conjunct the Moon in the Full Moon March 2023 astrology chart is a maximal position in a mundane map.)

In personal charts, Mizar is not helpful if conjunction bad planets. It is not wrong to assume that, besides these handicaps, artistic emanations can also be attributed to Mizar. Mozart and Marlene Dietrich had this star rising. [3]

Mizar is said to presage the death of a loved one by the ancient astrologers. [2]

Chinese Taoism personifies Mizar as the star of Lu (禄). The word lu specifically refers to the salary of a government official. As such, the Lu star is the star of prosperity, rank, and influence. The Lu star was also worshipped as the deity dictating one’s success in the imperial examinations and, therefore, success in the imperial bureaucracy. [4]

Mizar and Alcor

Mizar (right) and Alcor (left)

80 Ursae Majoris is named Alcor, from the Arabic الخوار al-khawāri, meaning ‘faint one.’ It is the fainter companion of Mizar, the two stars forming a naked eye double.

The ability to perceive this separation of these two stars, Mizar and Alcor, was considered a test of good vision and was called the “test” or presently the Arab Eye Test. [5]

In Hindu astronomy, Mizar is called Vasistha and Alcor is called Arundhati. As a married couple, they symbolize the closeness marriage brings to a couple. [6]

In some Japanese mythological traditions, the star Alcor is known as “jumyoboshi,” which roughly translates into “[the] lifespan star” since it was believed that persons who could not observe the star would die before the end of the current year. [7]

According to Ptolemy, the stars in Ursa Major are like Mars. But the spectral class of Mizar (A2) and Alcor (A5) suggest they are like Venus. That would explain the artistic emanations attributed to Mizar and the marriage symbolism of both stars.

The Lion

92 Leonis is Located on the Tail of the Lion, Constellation Leo. According to Ptolemy, it is like Saturn and Venus. But according to its spectral class of K1, it is pure Mars.

92 Leonis is named Congguan, from the Chinese Cóng guān (從官), meaning the retinue. It represents the personal assistant of the Crown Prince (93 Leonis). [8]

Full Moon March 2023 Meaning

The March 2023 Full Moon trine Uranus brings exciting and liberating changes. But the Sun opposite Moon and the Full Moon quincunx Venus point to tension from relationship imbalances or poor self-image.

Heightened intuition and self-awareness from Uranus will help you reduce tension and restore balance. You can pinpoint where change is needed and move quickly to adapt to changing conditions. Even minor changes in appearance, such as new clothes or a different hairstyle, could make a difference. But with lowered inhibitions and a sense of adventure from Uranus, more significant changes in your love life and self-esteem are possible.

The influence of the star Mizar varies, ranging from catastrophic fires to success in exams and the closeness of marriage.

Astrologically, a full moon is influenced by the preceding new moon. The February 20 New Moon is good beginnings and endings, particularly new beginnings. It gives the passion and obsession to reach your goals with hard work, patience and persistence.

The influence of the March 7 Full Moon lasts two weeks up to the March 21 New Moon. This waning moon phase is good for releasing and letting go, resting, healing, regenerating, contemplating, meditating, decluttering, harvesting, pruning, and hair-cutting.
