Fixed Star Tejat Prior

Gemini Constellation [Stellarium]

The Sun joins Tejat Prior on June 24

Fixed star Tejat Prior, Eta Geminorum, is a triple star system in located in the Left Foot of the Twin Castor in Gemini Constellation. Although a naked-eye variable star, Eta Geminorium has two compents, A and B.

  • η Gem A is a magnitude 3.15-3.90 spectroscopic binary, spectal class M2IIIa.
  • η Gem B is a magnitude 6.04 star, spectal class G0III.

Eta Geminorum is officially named Propus (from the Greek, meaning forward foot). Stellarium (the image above), the website Constellations of Words, and George Noonan use the name Propus. But in astrology, Iota Geminorum is called Propus, and Eta Geminorum is called Tejat Prior.

  • Fixed star Propus is Iota Geminorum at 19♋01, between the shoulders of the Twins. (named from the Latin word that implies Close.)
  • Fixed star Tejat Prior is Eta Geminorum at 03♋26, near the left foot of the northern Twin. (also named, Propus and Praepes).
  • Fixed star Tejat Posterior is Mu Geminorum at 05♋18, on left foot of the northern Twin. (also named, Tejat, Nuhaiti, Dirah and Calx).

Eta Geminorum bore the traditional name of Tejat (or more precisely, Tejat Prior), from an old southern Arabic word of unknown meaning, tiḥyāt. Eta Geminorum is also named Praepes and Pish Pai, from the Persian Pīshpāy, پیش‌پای, meaning foreleg. Tejat Prior is the only member of the Chinese lunar mansion 钺 (Yuè), meaning ‘Battle Axe’.

Tejat Prior Astrology

Fixed star Tejat Prior has the spectral class M2, indicating a planetary nature of Saturn.

TEJAT. η Gemorium. A binary and variable star situated on the left foot of the northern Twin. Of the nature of Mercury and Venus. It causes violence, pride, over-confidence and shamelessness. [1]

The star Propus (Tejat Prior) is of the nature of Saturn. It can portend eminence to those born under its influence, but such an eminence that most would not aspire to: the hangman’s noose is likely to be the end result. [2]

TEJAT. η Geminorum. A binary, variable star on the left foot of the northern twin. Color, Orange-red. Type MO. The native is mercenary, cunning, subject to violence. The native is prideful, shameless, mentally quick, affable, orderly. [5]

Tejat Prior, η Gemorium, has a hybrid Arabic-Latin name meaning the Underneath Front (star). Within two degrees of it on Castor’s foot is Tejat Posterior, μ Gemorium, the Underneath Rear star, naturally. Bye the bye, Tahat is a better pronunciation. Posterior also goes by the names Dirah and Nuhaiai. Both Tejats are Mercury-Venus stars by Ptolemy: thus again, we find that quality which we saw in Alhena, the ability to express ideas in reasonable and acceptable ways which win because of their manifest intelligence. Some commentators have, as usual when they mention almost any star, drawn attention to the capacity found in these three to capitalize on the popularity one may gain from the ease of the ‘public appeal’ quality latent in them, and to use it for unscrupulous ends. But this is doubtful if there is any advantage at all in human affairs which may not be abused, if one is so minded, so why single out this one for special condemnation?! All three stars, the two Tejats and Alhena, fill the first 10°, or Decan, of the Cardinal Sign Cancer, into which they entered in 1349, 1621 and 1755 A.D. respectively. Each of these dates, within a year or two, was significant in the rise of European thought and literature from the Renaissance onwards. [3]

Tejat Prior rules the left breast. [4]

Constellation Gemini

Gemini is said to cause trouble and disgrace, sickness, loss of fortune, affliction and danger to the knees. [1]

Astrologers assigned to this constellation guardianship over human hands, arms, and shoulders; while Albumasar held that it portended intense devotion, genius, largeness of mind, goodness, and liberality. Considered the House of Mercury and a fortunate sign. Chinese astrologers asserted that if this constellation were invaded by Mars, war and a poor harvest would ensue. [2]

This manifests as a harsh personality rather than a nurturing individual, thus causing many conflicts in life. These persons are raised in a harsh environment as children, either mentally or physically. They receive harsh treatment, such as beatings or lack of food, which affects their outlook on life as they get older. Later in life, they do not know how to be nurturing or thoughtful, and go to any lengths to abuse others. They can be quite brutal in a close relationship as they are attempting to repeat their own experiences but as one who is brutal rather than the one receiving harsh treatment. They also injure the chest area of the body by bumping into objects or walking into things, like an open door. A female would be more aware of this and use more care to avoid hitting the chest, but a male would not notice it as much and would continue in this way throughout the life. [4]

    • See the general description above and read what Manilius said about Gemini rising [3]:

“From the Twins come less laborious callings and a more agreeable way of life, provided by varied song and voices of harmonious tone, slender pipes, the melodies …”

    • Hi Christina. With all the fixed star, if there is no specific interpretation then go with the general description. In this case “strength, eminence and success.”

      • Ok, Jamie. Thanks. I always get afraid a little when I see cancer somewhere in the chart..????????

  1. Like to add this star is conjunct my Venus and my brothers Sun yet the description for Tejat Prior conjunct Mars is most appropriate. “These persons are raised in a harsh environment as children, either mentally or physically. They receive harsh treatment, such as beatings” We had a violent abusive Mother and suffered both mentally and physically at her hands. My brother physically abused his wife for many years but I was determined not to do same to my children, they tell me they felt very much loved and respected during their childhood….
