Fixed star Rasalhague, Alpha Ophiuchi, is a binary star on the head of the Serpent Bearer, Ophiuchus Constellation.

Combined magnitude 2.07, spectral types A5 IV + K5–7 V, colors bluish-white. The main component, α Oph A, is about 2.5 times larger than α Oph B. ^[1]

The traditional and official name Rasalhague is from the Arabic رأس الحواء (raʾs al-ḥawwāʾ), which means the Head of the Serpent Collector. In Chinese astronomy, Rasalhague is known as 候 (Hòu), which means Astrologer. It represents the official responsible for observing astronomical phenomena. ^[1]

Rasalhague Astrology

Fixed star Rasalhague has the spectral type A5 + K5–7, indicating the planetary nature of Venus and to a lesser extent Mars. This would account for its more immoral characteristics compared to Sabik (Eta Ophiuchi) with its pure Venus nature.

RASALHAGUE. α Ophiuchi. A sapphire star situated in the head of Ophiuchus. From Ras al Hawwa, the Head of the Serpent Charmer. According to Ptolemy it is of the nature of Saturn and Venus; and, to Alvidas, of Jupiter and Mercury in sextile to Mars. It gives misfortune through women, perverted tastes and mental depravity. ^[2]

RASALHAGUE. α Ophiuchi. A bright white star in the head of Ophiuchi. Spectral class A5. This star imparts to its natives liberality, broad-mindedness, humanitarianism, philosophical ideas, some misfortune through the opposite sex, tremendous visualization. ^[3]

The star Rasalhague (α Ophiuchi) is of the nature of Venus, as is Sabik (η Ophiuchi). But these stars have generally been associated with the excesses of this planet, portending perverted morals, mental depravity, and misfortune through women. ^[4]

Ras Alhague. Alpha Ophuichi. Ras Alhague, in the Head of the Snake Charmer, has a Saturn like character, and some of the undesirable Venus qualities are also present. Connected with these are Neptunian tendencies, making the native especially prone to infections caused by toxins. People thus influenced tend to medical or hallucinatory drugs, stimulating food, too much good living, and overindulgence in alcohol. There is danger of insect bites, snake bites or assault from animals or rabid dogs. Since this is the Head star, the note is one of control by the mind, not by the brute strength that is so often evident in illustrations. The Saturn-Venus theme is still with us. ^[6]

Constellation Ophiuchus

According to Ptolemy is like Saturn and moderately like Venus. It is said to give a passionate, blindly good-hearted, wasteful and easily seduced nature, together with little happiness, unseen dangers, enmity, strife and slander. Pliny said that it occasioned much mortality by poisoning. This constellation has also been called Aesculapius and held to rule medicines. By the Kabalists it is associated with the Hebrew letter Oin and the 16th Tarot Trump “The Lightning Struck Tower”. ^[2]

Ophiuchus was noted in classical times as the constellation of those who had the power of discovering healing herbs and skill in curing the bites of poisonous serpents. In a genearthical chart the constellation denoted prudence and wisdom. ^[4]
