New Moon December 12, 2023 – Reimagine

New Moon December 2023 Astrology

The New Moon in Sagittarius on December 12, 2023, is quincunx Uranus. So, the meaning of the New Moon in December 2023 astrology is imagining a better way forward. You can also solve problems using imagination and open-mindedness to overcome polarized thinking.

Two months ago, the October 14 Solar Eclipse made the same quincunx aspect to Uranus from Libra instead of Sagittarius. So, the December 12 New Moon brings a new perspective and opportunities to make improvements, updates or corrections to those things you started or changes that occurred since the eclipse. It helps you reimagine or reinvent a new way forward.

New Moon December 2023 Horoscope

The New Moon on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, is located at 20°40′ Sagittarius. The horoscope below shows that the New Moon conjuncts Mars, but the orb is too wide to have much impact. So is the square to Neptune.

There is also a weak effect from the fixed stars, but the primary influence on the astrology of the December 2023 New Moon comes from the quincunx aspect to Uranus.

Sun conjunct Moon represents the end of one cycle and the beginning of another new 28-day cycle. It gives a refreshing burst of energy and initiative. But it also brings emotional balance, not irrationally emotional, and not too cold and calculating.

So, the New Moon in December 2023 is excellent for making a fresh start, turning over a new leaf, or starting a new project. You can also question old habits, behaviors, and beliefs while searching for new and inventive ways to progress.

New Moon Aspects

New Moon quincunx Uranus can make you yearn for something new or exciting. Positive change and exciting opportunities are possible. But you may come under pressure to make changes, perhaps from a partner, government agency, a superior or an unexpected event.

This mind-expanding aspect gives the imaginative ability, insight and higher awareness to make things happen. But imagining a better future and anticipating change can bring insecurity, uncertainty and fear. You may experience instability, irritability, and a crisis of indecision. Restricting yourself to a single goal will make decision-making easier.

Enhanced creativity, originality, ingenuity, flexibility and open-mindedness are ideal for experimenting, adapting, altering and adjusting. Doing something slightly different could get better results than attempting radical changes.

At a global level, protests or rebellions against the curtailment of freedom, revolution, riots, anarchy and explosions are possible. Uranus-ruled solutions could involve humanitarian, democratic and progressive ideas.

The Constellations

The December 2023 New Moon is in the Sign of Sagittarius. But as the image below shows, it is in the Constellation of Scorpio. The Signs and the Constellations do not match up. Over the last 2000 years, the Constellations have moved nearly 30° out of alignment with the Signs because of the precession of the equinoxes.

The Zodiac was invented only as a measuring device. The ecliptic line in the image below matches the degrees in the horoscope above. Like the original astrologers, I use the Constellations and fixed stars for interpretation, not the Signs.

New Moon December 2023 Meaning

New Moon December 2023

As well as visually being in the constellation Scorpius, the December 12 New Moon closely aligns with one of the brighter members of the Scorpion, Eta Scorpii. It is not used in astrology, but the New Moon sits between the two brightest stars in the constellation Ophiuchi, Rasalhague (Alpha) and Sabik (Eta).

Based on their spectral types, Rasalhague has a Venus/Mars nature, and Sabik has a pure Venus nature. The closest star to the New Moon is Nu Serpentis. It also has a pure Venus nature, which means fixed star Sabik should have a stronger influence than Rasalhague.

The Serpent Bearer

According to Robson, fixed star Sabik causes wastefulness, lost energy, perverted morals, and success in evil deeds. [1] Rigor adds sincerity, honors, success and moral courage. [2]

With the Sun: Sincere, honorable, scientific, religious and philosophical interests, unorthodox or heretical, moral courage. [1] Could be unjustly accused or leave an undesirable situation for a better life. [2]

Constellation Ophiuchus the Serpent Bearer is said to give a passionate, blindly good-hearted, wasteful and easily seduced nature with little happiness, unseen dangers, enmity, strife and slander, and much mortality by poisoning. This constellation has also been called Aesculapius and rules medicines. [1] Ophiuchus denotes prudence and wisdom. It gives the power of discovering healing herbs and skill in curing the bites of poisonous serpents.[3]

Constellation Serpens the Serpent is said to give wisdom, craft, deceit, malice, a feeble will and danger of poison. [1]

The Scorpion

A New Moon in Constellation Scorpio generally makes people strong-willed, courageous, determined, persistent, zealous, decisive and secretive. It also gives serious, critical, analytical, penetrating thinking that can delve into deep, profound subjects.

But harshly aspected (quincunx Uranus), it can turn courage into recklessness and cause restlessness, hostility, sarcasm, jealousy, envy and hatred. It can make people pessimistic, cruel, cunning, vindictive, too secretive, and indifferent to suffering. [2]

New Moon December 2023 Meaning

The primary influence on the astrology of the December 2023 New Moon is the quincunx aspect to Uranus. It brings a new point of view, overcoming polarized or black-or-white thinking to find a new way forward. This may sound familiar because the October 14 Solar Eclipse only two months ago was also quincunx Uranus but from Libra instead of Sagittarius.

This means the December 12 New Moon allows you to take a fresh look at things you started or changes that have occurred since the October 14 Solar Eclipse. This is a good Moon phase for making improvements, updates and alterations.

The previous New Moon on November 13 was conjunct Mars and opposite Uranus. You could have made rash or hasty changes you regret in response to that impulsive combination. Perhaps this New Moon of December 2023 offers a chance to correct mistakes. Or you could reinvent or reimagine a better way forward.

The influence of the December 12 New Moon lasts four weeks up to the January 11 New Moon. The best time for starting new projects is during the two-week waxing moon phase, from December 12 to the December 26 Full Moon.

  1. I busted a gut at re-imagine. I been cleaned out, everything gone. Who am I anymore. This thing is not something I wanted. Rattling around the same ol haunts but I can’t relate. Disconnected. Wandering. Do I even have it left in me to imagine. Everything was fine and then it got taken away slowly and painfully. Sigh. I wonder if I will ever have any imagine again. Sigh. Ain’t I a breath of sunshine.

  2. “The Zodiac was invented only as a measuring device. The ecliptic line in the image below matches the degrees in the horoscope above. Like the original astrologers, I use the Constellations and fixed stars for interpretation, not the Signs.”

Commendable Jamie, the Zodiac indeed used as a measuring device in Magi chart, eye pattern thread, precession of Regulus to ascendant. One for the book, chapter named Ages.

  3. Stationary Mercury and Neptune are interesting. Suggests meditation and rumination as well as suspension of our held concepts and beliefs. Given the waxing of the Moon coincides with Mercury in retrograde and Neptune turning direct, that antsy Uranus aspect looks like the impulsive desire to act is best mediated by reviewing our past actions this Moon cycle. Maybe set some resolutions for the New Year?

  4. Meditating on decan New Moon, Clash of the Titans. The wormwood leaks pseudonym and regalia. What are your principles nobleese? scrape into your belly is full, then shat attack, stochastiic?

  5. Jackson, you make me laugh. I would love to skip this part too, but unfortunately I’m in it and have to deal with it. But thanks for the reminder that there is a future, whatever that might be. Just can’t get there now.

  6. What an interesting and enriching new moon. It dinged my natal Vesta thrusting me into the sacred. That’s a solid for me. I know it, just need to stay in touch with it. Initially it is seeming like that is all there really is. How that relates to the distracting nonsense and deception I don’t know. Staying in touch with sacred, well that feels real.

Saturn, Betelgeuse, Moon stellium. The chart is saying it’s ‘tough being a princess, when you’re not a princess, so-to-speak.’ But there is a lot to consider here, especially in light of a dark, rain swept accident scene in DE the previous Sunday.
