On March 11 2011 a 8.9 earthquake and tsunami struck Sendai, Japan causing the worst nuclear crisis since Chernobyl. We look now at the astrology and the fixed stars in relation to this disaster. The December 2010 Lunar Eclipse was on the massive fixed star Betelgeuse in the Orion Constellation. As mentioned in that blog, the Japan horoscope has Moon conjunct Betelgeuse (13′). By comparison, Australia has Neptune (floods) on Betelgeuse, Egypt has the Sun (president) on Betelgeuse. The Moon in the Japanese chart represents her people, so the masses are directly impacted by the Lunar eclipse.
The Lunar Eclipse activated the Japanese Moon, conjunct by 40′. At the time of the earthquake, Uranus was putting more strain on the people, being square the Japanese Moon (76′). Uranus brings unexpected, shocking events. Uranus also rules earthquakes and the nuclear industry. Update: Fukushima Nuclear Plant Explosion.
With Uranus on the fixed star Scheat, the events can involve catastrophes, especially concerning the ocean and water – tsunami. The Lunar South Node was conjunct the Japanese Moon (03′). I’m using the precession correction value of 102′.
Other transits to the Japan chart worth mentioning:
Pluto opposite Chiron (29′).
Jupiter conjunct Venus (34′).
Chiron conjunct Mercury (04′).
Ceres conjunct MC (78′) quincunx Ceres (09′).
Ascendant conjunct Saturn (25′).
Now to the chart for the earthquake itself, data from USGS [1]. As mentioned above, Uranus is on catastrophic Scheat. Lilith is also on Scheat, and exactly square the Nodes. Lilith the baby killer in this case, the square tearing apart family relationships.
Mercury, the messenger of the Gods is square the Vertex, or destiny. Mercury is on a fixed star called Deneb Kaitos (04′) in the constellation of Cetus, the Sea Monster (the Kraken in Clash of the Titans). Deneb Kaitos gives “misfortune and compulsory change” [2], and “Inhibitions and restraints in every way, psychologically and physically” [3].
There is a major aspect pattern in this earthquake chart called the Fist of God, or Thor’s Hammer. The technical name is the Quadriform aspect configuration. It is the triangle with the red lines. Moon square Neptune, both sesquisquare (135°) Saturn. With a Fist of God, the tension from the square can lead to violence or destruction at the apex planet.
Moon square Neptune puts the population against the ocean, Neptune is the sea god Poseidon. Neptune in hard aspect like this also represents suffering and victims. The Moon is on a major fixed star called Alcyone (02′) in constellation Taurus, part of The Pleiades Star Cluster. The Pleiades are prominent in the Cherokee Prophecies about the major changes ahead for us. “The Pleiades causes bereavement, mourning, sorrows and tragedies” [4].
So the Moon and Neptune focus their energy down on Saturn, the earth, the land. Saturn in mundane astrology rules infrastructure, buildings and property. Saturn also rules the economy, and the Japanese economy was already teetering, this might tip it over. The Fist of God in this mundane chart points to destruction from an act of God. Remember the Ascendant in the earthquake chart is conjunct the Japanese Saturn.

Personally I believe that we do feel the influence of lunations beforehand, and that could be the case with this SuperMoon. Especially given that it will be opposite Uranus, and square the Lunar Nodes and the December Lunar Eclipse degree.

“We will secure the safety of the people of Japan”. From the news conference by Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan in response to the state of emergency, especially with the nuclear power plant shutdowns. That statement is exactly the Moon in the mundane horoscope.
My very quick analysis and interpretation of the Astrological phenomenon that may have attributed to the Japanese Earth Quake and Tsunami catastrophes are:
We had an intense Winter Solstice conjunct a Full Lunar Eclipse on December 21, 2010 that would keep things rocking and rolling for a long time to come. Lunar Eclipses are the things that set the tone for weather and seismic activity for future lunar cycles to come. The Full Moon Eclipse conjunct the December 21st Winter Solstice was severely afflicted with the planets Mercury (travel, communications and speech and thought patterns), Jupiter (foreign cultures, expansive, large and extreme or excessive), Uranus (Unexpected sudden events, electrical and seismic activity, revolution for freedom, strange phenomenon), and Pluto (explosive atomic energy, the masses, major transformation, destruction, birth, death and regeneration).
With these planets afflicting the 2010 Winter Solstice (within a degree orb of 2012 Solstice point of alignment) conjunct the 2010 Solstice Full Moon Eclipse you can expect these massive catastrophic events to occur within nature, animal, and people alike……A Revolution for Freedom as we have seen among the masses in Egypt, Libya, Yemen…etc, the extreme flooding like Australia, Volcanoes, birds in massive flocks falling from the skies, fish and marine life dying in masses and now this unbelievable Earthquake and Tsunami. There was last year’s BP oil spill….(that’s another story, but still it’s effects are contributing) Worst case scenario now awaiting Nuclear Melt Downs to begin. The horoscope of the Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan had the Lunar Nodes….(In Indian Astrology, these are the Dragon’s Head and Dragon’s Tail) at an almost exact Square aspect afflicting upon and triggering the point of the last Lunar Eclipse that was on the 2010 Winter Solstice point. Lunar Nodes (also called shadows of the moon) are associated to Eclipses and depending on their relation to the eclipse that occurred it is said can indicate major destructive events. It is important to watch approaching aspects to Eclipses for the coming year and sometimes years to come. If an Eclipse was severely afflicted you can be certain to expect destructive weather patterns and severe pulling on earth’s crust. This was the case for our last Winter Solstice Lunar Eclipse for 2010. Another thing to note is that Neptune….ruler of the Sea, was at an almost exact square (afflicting energy) to the Moon at the time of the Tsunami…..This is just another Lunar aspect we see again confirming and interpreting weather. An Earthquake and Tsunami can be considered a Weather Event.
Neptune is about to enter Pisces, and on it’s cusp, the sign of the Fish and the Sea. With this Square aspect to the moon on the moment of the Earthquake and Tsunami, once again you are in affliction and pull in the Lunar activity triggering and calling upon the energy of our last Eclipse and pull on the Earth, while the Nodes are afflicting the last Lunar Eclipse point of 2010. Our Full Moon on February 18 2011, was at 29 Leo exactly opposite Neptune (the sea) on it’s last leg of Aquarius and we have not yet had our next Full Moon. That will be on the 19th of March. This Full Moon in Virgo will be Opposite Uranus forming a Grand Cross with last years 2010 Winter Solstice and Lunar Eclipse. Around that time expect the Major Unexpected…..It’s not over yet.

Lunation aspects to Neptune are important for oceanic changes,Tsunami, heavy rains and flooding, as well as major snow fall amounts throughout the world. You’d have to calculate the Astrogcartography to see the place it will effect during the transits.
It leaves Pisces for good in January of 2026……We need to be mindful of what happens to our food chain in the ocean and get rid of all toxins that can harm it starting now! Japan is a wake up call. It all has a ripple effect. What falls in the oceans and rivers, go back up into clouds and rain upon our crops…..

Some scientist are already using the planetary approach in prediction earthquakes, volcanoes, and severe weather.
Scientists, and all mankind for that matter needs to be aware that nature is much more destructive and powerful than any man made thing and can cause havoc when acting out and upon toxic nuclear plants oil refineries, natural gas….etc. Nature will destroy but can rebuild after it cleanses, but when it hits the fan over man made toxic structures the results are devastating. Residents near nuclear reactor advised to evacuate
The government has issued an evacuation advisory to people living within a three-kilometer radius of a nuclear power plant in quake-stricken Fukushima Prefecture.
Government officials said on Friday that no radioactive materials have leaked from the Tokyo Electric Power Company’s Fukushima Number One plant. The government also says the advisory is only a precaution, and is also asking people living within 10 kilometers of the plant to stay indoors.
The government’s Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency says cooling system failure has made it impossible to cool the second reactor after it automatically stopped operating after the earthquake.
The plant has been declared to be in a state of emergency after the quake caused the technical failure.

I agree. I think its related to the X class solar flare on the 9th March. The sunspots have been very active in the last two weeks or so and we got a blast yesterday. I photographed an amazing double helix in the sky last night here in Cape Town – can someone remind me how to put this up here???

That funny looking symbol next to the Moon in the earthquake chart is for the TransNeptunian planet Sedna. I included it because I have found it may be related to earth changes. It been prominent in a number of charts for major earthquakes. The midpoint of Saturn and Pluto in the chart is 21°30’Scorpio, bang opposite Sedna. As Ken Abrahams pointed out on our Facebook page, the Saturn Pluto midpoint is important when looking at earthquakes. So I’d be interested in the Sabian symbol for Sedna.
The orbit of Sedna is extremely eliptical, like none other in our solar system. It goes half way out to our nearest star. It’s orbital period is a massive 10,500 years. It will be closest to us in 70 years. Sedna was names after the Inuit goddess of the sea. Sedan and Earth Changes.

That’s interesting about the Saturn/Pluto midpoint – I’d never heard that before, although it makes sense. Coincidentally, my 2nd house Sun sits at that midpoint, exactly opposite my 8th house Sedna/BM Lilith conjunction. I’ve always been very tuned into certain imminent natural disasters, including Earthquakes. But then again, I’ve also been tuned into other major disasters that weren’t so natural, as in they were man-made.
Just yesterday (prior to the Earthquake), I posted a comment on Donna Cunningham’s site saying I’d felt strange the last few days, as if I was waiting for something big (not in a good way) about to happen. I hadn’t been able to sleep these past three nights, and my dreams had a recurring disturbing theme. I knew something was up, but exactly what I wasn’t sure. Then when it hit, I knew.
Now that I know about the Saturn/Pluto midpoint, I’ll have to pay more attention to transits. Hmmmm – I’ve been in a major earthquake, maybe I’ll have to go back and check to see if that point was activated.
It was terribly sad watching planes and cars float by looking like childrens’ toys. In just a few minutes, so many lives were changed forever. Last night, as I waited for news about a Tsunami Warning in our area, I also pulled up the event chart.

Thanks for this LB … I was also having strange feelings. I was trying to explain to my partner (Kiwi talk for husband type person) that for the past 3 days I had felt this weird “heaviness” all over my being. I thought maybe I was making myself sick or something – at 65 you never know what is happening with your body! But weirdly enough, the “heaviness” lifted after the event.
Mysterious.
I also felt much of my apprehension ease when the earthquake hit, although I see what happened as a kind of symptom of larger energies still at play. I guess a lot of people felt it – it is mysterious and also comforting.

I watched with incredulity as this formed. There were snake like folds appearing in the cloud which then entwined. They moved pretty quickly so by the time I grabbed my iphone I (I was on the roof of my house!) the cloud was moving. Alas if only I had a camera with a wide angled lens to hand…
We live behind Table Mountain so it doesn’t look like it. I saturated the colour a bit to get clarity – it was almost dusk so low light but the double helix is clear.

(TheWeatherSpace.com) — A secondary geomagnetic storm signature has developed on the K-Index graphs with storm level (class 5) activity.
The Earthquake in Japan happened around the same time as the geomagnetic field burst to a K-Index-Class-5 event. There is no way to tell if it was a trigger but ongoing conversations with our lead scientist here at TheWeatherSpace.com have been interesting to say the least.
“This is a secondary blast to our geomagnetic field and it is quite possible it will lead to another large quake in the world, where though cannot be certain”, Martin said. “Usually these events correlate well with seismic activity, possibly a trigger or ingredient much like moisture is to feed thunderstorm cells in meteorology. There could be many ingredients for the perfect scenario and trigger, this being one of the”.
Northern lights have been seen as far down as the Upper Midwest during this blast of our geomagnetic field.
The blast came from one of the highest velocity solar flare blasts since 2005.
“One more thing to add”, concluded Martin. “The charts in the bz/by/bx graphs crossed at the same time as the quake, leading me to further believe it was a trigger. They are once again crossed. Best I can say is anyone should be prepared worldwide quakes no matter what, they happen sudden and to those without preparations in hand will be the ones that will suffer”.

“Waves from the Earthquake have been ringing the planet like bell, causing stress in all sections of the planet”, Martin said. “Imagine a calm magma chamber that just needs one push, even if a few feet. Mount Karangetang is located on Siau, part of the Sulawesi island chain. It erupted in August, killing four people.
This mountain is along the “Ring of Fire, the volcano chain surrounding the Pacific Basin.

The 26,000 year solar winding (magnetic pressure) cycle, which is displayed to humans (and other life) here on terra in the form of the ‘sun spot cycle’ that is variously considered to be either 22 years or 11 years in length begins with the now, somewhat notorious, 87 day magnetic winding cycle.
This cycle is responsible for the volcano problems now facing the Indonesian populace. As forecast from the August 1, 2010 solar disruption, the Indonesian volcano eruptions and earthquakes commenced on schedule in advance of the October 27th day of the completion of the most recent 87 day ‘bit’ component to the larger cycle.
The next 87 day bit on this cycle completes on January 22, 2011. For many reasons, i suspect that the volcanic activity will increase (along with earthquakes and really strange weather) nearly 2/two weeks before that day. The ‘anticipation’ of the actual day of the winding lap (Jan 22) is due to the lack of release of the magnetic pressures affecting the sun, as well as the continuous build up of magnetic pressures here on earth.
The thinking is that as we progress further into each of these 87 day cycles, the amount of ‘anticipation’ and ‘carry over’ from previous cycles will increase. So as an instance, August 1 of this year produced only 5 days of geomagnetic affective actions, where the beginning of the next cycle that occurred on October 27 is *still* producing activity in the Indonesian islands. So as we progress into 2011, i suspect that the activity will join together at both ends such that between one cycle and the next full 87 day sun polar ‘lap’ cycle, the activity, with volcanoes and earthquakes and such, will continue without significant decrease.
It is my OPINION and personal conclusion that the most likely cycle for a complete 87 days of earth activity will be the cycle beginning on July 15th, 2011.
The thinking also is, that as each cycle is encountered in our progression through 2011, the amount of intensity of earth activity will escalate. Here at HPH we have some internal debate about how rapidly the escalation will progress, however the next 2/two cycles, that is to say, the ones starting on January 22, 2011, and April 19, 2011 will ‘tell the tale’. That is to say, we should be able to plot/chart the activity levels of volcanoes and earthquakes from October 2010 through to June and then project the trend line for increased energies impacting our planet into late 2011 and 2012.
It is also our conclusion that the 26,000 years (approximately) larger solar cycle has, and is showing, definitive harmonics within the solar magnetic cycle. As the planets spread themselves out in a harmonic fashion, it should come as no surprise that cycles within the sun caused by the planets would also exhibit such harmonics. Soooo…the 26,000 year cycle has a 5th harmonic of 5115 years ….which is…guess what? the length of the Mayan Long Count calendar! And other harmonics (3rds, 8ths), as well as this 5th harmonic ALL show climate and crustal changes here on earth (historically). It is also our conclusion that these harmonics are manifesting in a scalar fashion and can be found down to the level of mere days.
So the warning to the residents of the Indonesian Islands, the Malay peninsula, and SE pacific plate regions in general is that this part of planet earth is currently demonstrating vulnerability to these solar effects, and as the solar effects will continue to escalate in frequency, duration, and intensity, changes to life patterns, locations, and requirements in the region should be considered. There will be many reasons that local officials and governments will NOT want to consider this warning, and my theory/conclusions. And i presume that they will argue very fiercely that my conclusions are incorrect. The next year will settle any such disputes. Any officials in the region are invited to contact me should they feel the need.

January 22, 2011 (expect earth reaction from January 7 onward).
April 19, 2011 (expect earth reaction from February 25th onward)

Last year when I started looking into twin flames it was ‘general knowledge” that twin flames reuniting was ‘sacred’ etc etc and had to do with “work’ for humanity, not to be “romantised”…& had to do with leading up to Judgement day or around that time etc…so I got a copy of the bible, but couldn’t find the stuff I had heard about…then one website told me that Alpha & Omega in Revelations refers to twin flames & “What therefore God hath joined together let no man put asunder” and this means great karma will befall anyone who tries to come between twin flames. I doubt it – If you study electric universe/plasma theory you’ll understand that weather is an electrically activated phenomena – essentially, electric forces create form in plasma – liquid and gases constitute a plasma and clouds come under that category as does gas in space. Plasma is the 4th state of matter and constitutes 90% of the universe.
I’ve been watching clouds with fascination for a couple of years and have seen some amazing sights, notable asperatus clouds and other bizarre things! They have appeared in areas I know to be electromagneticaly “weird” such as the Vale of Pewsey in Wiltshire where most crop circles from.

EARTHQUAKE WARNING FROM RUSSIAN INSTITUTE of PHYSICS of the EARTH

A new report released today in the Kremlin prepared for Prime Minister Putin by the Institute of Physics of the Earth, in Moscow, is warning that the America’s are in danger of suffering a mega-quake of catastrophic proportions during the next fortnight (14 days) with a specific emphasis being placed on the United States, Mexico, Central America and South American west coast regions along with the New Madrid Fault Zone region.
This report further warns that catastrophic earthquakes in Asia and the sub-continent are, also, “more than likely to occur” with the 7.3 magnitude quake in Japan today being “one of at least 4 of this intensity” to occur during this same time period.
Raising the concerns of a mega-quake occurring, this report says, are the increasing subtle electromagnetic signals that are being detected in the Earth’s upper atmosphere over many regions of the World, with the most intense being over the US Western coastal and Midwest regions.
Important to note are that Russian and British scientists are at the forefront of predicting earthquakes based on these subtle electromagnetic signals and have joined in an effort to put satellites in space to detect more of them.
More ominously in this report are Russian scientists confirming the independent analysis of New Zealand mathematician and long-range weather forecaster, Ken Ring, who predicted the deadly Christchurch quake and this week issued another warning of a quake to hit on or about March 20th.
Ring explains his methodology for predicting earthquakes as follows:
“The planets very much affect the earth, indirectly, by having an effect on the Sun. Some planets are very large. If the Sun was a basketball the gas giants Jupiter and Saturn would be the size of grapefruits, and the Earth would be, on that scale, the size of a peppercorn.
Jupiter and Saturn cause extra tides on the Sun when they get on either side of the Sun (as with Moon – Earth-Sun when the moon is full) and when these gas giants get on the same side as the Sun, (as with Earth -Moon – Sun when the moon is new). These greater solar tides become sunspot activity and solar flares and can be understood as akin to the increase in tides caused by the Moon when it too gets alongside Earth or opposite Earth.
At the moment we have Jupiter and Saturn on either side of the Sun and creating a tug of war with Earth in the middle. That started last September and will continue until about May. In September the Earth was right in line with Jupiter, Saturn and the Sun too.
That’s why there were several 7+ earthquakes around, it wasn’t just us. For instance there was one in Pakistan on the same day as Christchurch. This Jupiter/Saturn alignment continues until about May, and the Earth comes back into line as well in March. It is why there may be an extreme event, perhaps a large earthquake, around 20 March, which is when the Moon may be again in a trigger position.”
According to this report, however, where Ring is correct in assessing blame for our Earth’s earthquakes on the Sun and Planets, his substituting of Perigean Spring Tides (also known as King Tides) for the low pressure systems associated with them may be incorrect.
The mention in this report of massive low pressure systems being associated with catastrophic earthquakes is especially dire to the United States Midwestern region, which even today is continuing to be pounded by horrific rainfall amounts, and most especially impacting the New Madrid Fault Zone State of Arkansas which has suffered over 800 earthquakes in the past 6 months alone.
Equally in danger, this report continues, is the South American Nation of Bolivia which has, likewise, suffered catastrophic low pressure system storms that in the past week have killed over 52 people.
Most ominous in this report, though, is its warning that the fault-riddled State of California may be about to suffer its most catastrophic earthquake in decades as new reports for this region show the mass death of millions of fish [photo bottom left] is now occurring, and just like the mass stranding of whales on New Zealand beaches days prior to the February 22nd destruction of Christchurch.
Making the situation for our Planet even grimmer are the reports that our Sun is continuing to spew forth massive solar flares, the latest warned to hit our Earth today or tomorrow thus prompting the Hermanus Space Weather Warning Centre (SWWC) to issue a Solar Flare warning for the Southern Hemisphere.
Interesting to note in all of these events is the United States Army announcing this week that it is holding a rare training event involving the US Military, the CIA, Canadian officers, US Treasury and State departments, the US Agency for International Development, the Defense Threat Readiness Agency and the International Red Cross between March 21-25 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and which should the worst happen they will certainly be prepared for it.
As this report concludes, that as of yet, “no firmly reliable” method for predicting earthquakes has been scientifically recognized, it is well worth noting the too many to be ignored anomalous coincidences leading up to catastrophic mega-quakes are breaking out all over the World and should only be ignored at ones peril.
In other words, it is always best to be prepared should disaster strike, wherever the warning comes from.

There’s plenty of evidence to support the mag field anomalies. There are areas known as Vile Vortices where our mag field is highly variable.

The area where the Japanese quake occurred seems to be in one such vortex. These would be where the magnetic fields are open to allow exchanges from the cosmos.

Look at the Red Cross (cardinal red cross) on the Tarot card of judgement. I think that red cross refers to the Grand cross of 2012… maybe the Cardinal Cross…
Anyway, some of the stars as we know, increase their intensity/brilliance without warning and outside what are accepted as “normal” timescales. Most astronomers are still using the thermo nuclear/gravity based models for stars but the actual facts belie that!
I don’t know where to look for updates on what is happening at the GC except there are two monitors – LIGO in the US and one other (can’t remember the name) which is Japan based I think. These detect SGWs – Super Galactic waves. I ‘ll google around and see what I can find! it seems anyway that the one in 2004, although detected, took 44 hours to get to our mag field and the detectors were technically out of service at the time. I’ll google La Violette and see if he shads any light. I don’t think the SGR 1806-20 connection is a coincidence. There could well be a connection to it and the solar output.

(TheWeatherSpace.com) — Reports from agencies say that the Japan quake moved the island eight feet, also affecting the Earth’s axis.
Kenneth Hudnut, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey, told TheWeatherSpace.com that one GPS station moved eight feet and that a map from the Geospatial Information Authority is showing the shift is consistent. Japan has officially moved eight feet from where it once was before the quake.
The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in Italy estimated the quake shifted the planet on its axis by four inches, or ten centimeters.
During the Chile quake in 2009, Earth’s rotation also sped up. It is likely this is what happened during the Japan quake as well.

Jamie..I am watching channel 7 news…a japanese journalist flew a plane to check damage…he came back and reported that “town after town after town has “GONE”…and some towns are completely under water.
Channel 7 news readers are asking “how come the military / governement have not surveyed the damage, it’s taken a reporter to do it?

Hey Rob…been googling Edgar Cayce predictions…gawd…by his predictions something is going to happen to California, think earthquake…but he talks about volcanoes & earthquakes and the earth being shifted off its axis. Have you read his stuff?

Richard Freund, the archeologist leading the research that has come up with this latest find, has perhaps more cudos than other researchers who have made ‘finds’ in recent years – so the outlook is interesting – his find ties in with Plato’s writings perhaps better than any other discovered cities beneath the sea as the greek put the lost city off the straights of Gibraltar – Plato put the date at 11k yrs ago at which time the sea levels rose through rapid global warming and cataclysmic events in combination – there are many many cities down there – nothing weird here really, just, whats been literally submerged emerging again – outer reality is often catching up with what has been known inwardly well before-hand…..watch this space

Quake shifted Earth 4 inches on its axis
WASHINGTON: The massive earthquake that shook Japan and triggered a huge tsunami appears to have shifted the Earth on its axis and moved an island of Japan, a media report said Saturday.
Kenneth Hudnut, a geophysicist at the US Geological Survey , told CNN: “At this point, we know that one GPS station moved (8 feet), and we have seen a map from GSI (Geospatial Information Authority) in Japan showing the pattern of shift over a large area is consistent with about that much shift of the land mass.”
Reports from an Italian institute estimated that Japan earthquake shifted Earth on its axis by as much as 4 inches, CNN said.
The earthquake measuring 8.9 on the Richter scale rocked Japan Friday and spawned a tsunami that slammed into the northeastern coast, leaving about 1,000 people dead.
Shengzao Chen, a geophysicist, explained that the quake occurred as the Earth’s crust ruptured along an area about 400 km long by 160 km wide, as tectonic plates slipped more than 18 metres.

Japan Fallout Won’t Rival Chernobyl’s

Even if the Japanese nuclear plant damaged in the earthquake goes into full meltdown, it is unlikely to cause environmental fallout anything on the scale seen after the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, scientists said.
“As long as there’s no meltdown of the fuel rods, you’re in good shape,” said Kirby Kemper, a nuclear physicist at Florida State University. But if pressure from gases in the nuclear core builds up, “a crack could appear in the containment vessel and release radiation,” he said.
Tokyo Electric Power Co.’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, situated about 150 miles north of Tokyo, was shaken by an 8.9-magnitude earthquake Friday. A tsunami and aftershocks also hit the area.
A portion of the No. 1 reactor’s fuel rods has become exposed due to a failure of the cooling system. Tepco officials have been pumping seawater with boron in a last-ditch effort to bring temperatures down to prevent an outright meltdown. The boron helps neutralize some of the radiation.
“I would describe this measure as a Hail Mary pass,” said Ken Bergeron, a physicist and former scientist at the Sandia National Laboratories, where he worked on nuclear-reactor accident simulation. “If the containment doesn’t survive, we have a worst-case scenario (of a meltdown).”
Tepco has said the containment is intact.
Fukushima Daiichi has six reactors, all built in the 1970s, and three were operating when the quake happened. The No. 1 unit, the oldest and smallest of the reactors, appears to be the main source of the problems.
A nuclear reactor produces electricity by heating up the radioactive material in its core, which then heats water to produce steam. That steam is used to turn turbines that produce electricity. To shut down a reactor, safety valves are opened to release the steam and water is used to then to cool down the reactor core.
The core can overheat if part of it has been exposed above the water level for some time. Pellets of radioactive material are arranged into long rods of stainless steel that are kept in cylindrical arrays, which are then submerged in water. If the temperature is high enough, the core slumps to the bottom of the reactor vessel and melts through it and onto the floor of the containment unit.
Loss of cooling water resulted in a near meltdown of the Three Mile Island reactor in Pennsylvania in 1979, the worst nuclear incident in U.S. history.
The Fukushima Daiichi No. 1 reactor has a better “containment system than Chernobyl but on the scale of most reactors in this country, it’s not as strong as most of them,” Bergeron said in a Saturday conference call with other U.S. nuclear scientists to discuss the situation.
The Tepco reactor has been shut down so no nuclear reaction is taking place. “What you have to worry about is the decay heat that is still in the core that will last for days,” Bergeron said. “To keep the decay heat in the uranium from melting the core, you have to keep water on it.”
The conventional methods for keeping the core in water have failed, “so they are using some very unusual methods,” Bergeron said.
In the wake of the earthquake, the back-up generators that are used to pump water into the reactor stopped working so back-up batteries were brought in. Those batteries weren’t designed to last very long. “We don’t know exactly how they are getting enough water at the core,” he said.
Another scenario is that high temperatures can cause “high speed rusting” by the water around the tube. This would convert zirconium into zirconium oxide and release hydrogen. Hydrogen is a flammable.
An explosion Saturday that blew off the roof and walls of a secondary-containment structure around the reactor could have been caused by a buildup of hydrogen. Bergeron said hydrogen combustion typically doesn’t occur in containment, but this reactor had to be vented to ease pressure.
“The problem is you don’t know exactly what is happening,” said Robert Alvarez, senior scholar at the Institute for Policy Studies.
Thousands of residents within a 20-kilometer radius of the reactor have been evacuated as a precaution. But Dr. Kemper of Florida State University said in a separate interview that in the event of a large-scale radiation leak, people should barricade themselves into buildings and seal the windows until evacuation crews arrive.
The specter of huge environmental fallout on the scale of Chernobyl is unlikely, though.
The Chernobyl reactor used carbon to slow down neutrons, a key part of the fission reaction. In that disaster, a fire ignited the carbon and created radioactive soot that was carried afar by winds.
The nuclear core in many modern reactors, including the ones in Japan, is enclosed by a steel containment vessel. Today’s reactors also use water instead of carbon to slow down neutrons, so there is no big danger of the emanation of radioactive soot from the Fukushima plant.
A full meltdown at the Japanese facility would still release radioactive gases, but those tend to dissipate in the atmosphere. For example, there was a small amount of radiation released in the 1979 Three Mile Island disaster in Pennsylvania, but post-release assessments suggested it didn’t have any real health or environmental impact. About half of the core melted during the early stages of that accident.
If the Japanese nuclear core were to melt, certain radioactive materials, such as iodine, strontium and cesium, would also be released. These particles are one-quarter the size of a grain of salt and can be carried by winds. The larger the grains, the more quickly they would fall out of the air.
Dr. Kemper noted that the wind tends to blow west to east in Japan, and so a good deal of the radioactive particles would drift out to sea. Consequently, there probably wouldn’t be much fallout in Japan’s densely populated areas to the south.
Unlike an accident that releases chemical toxins, a nuclear-plant disaster has one advantage: Radiation levels can constantly and precisely be measured.
Since the signing of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty in 1996, various countries have put in place devices that can monitor radiation levels. So if there was any significant wind-borne fallout from the Japan plant, it would likely get noticed quickly.
But in the area surrounding the Japanese facility, the effects of a full-blown meltdown would likely linger. “The cleanup would go on for a year or two,” Dr. Kemper said.

Japan is not Libia. I´m certain that Japanese are highly intellectual, cultured people. They´re prepared and ready to do what must be done. If that fails, then nothing else CAN be done. From what i see, they´re doing their very best to stop whatever is going on in there. Besides, I don´t think they´re going at it alone. Certainly there are specialist from around the world helping out.
We can only watch and wait. And pray. and send good vibes–which I trust the japanese are also doing.

NORTH-EASTERN Japan can expect another monster earthquake large enough to trigger a tsunami within days, the head of the Australian Seismological Centre says.
The director, Kevin McCue, said there had been more than 100 smaller quakes since Friday, but a larger aftershock was likely.
”Normally they happen within days,” he said. ”The rule of thumb is that you would expect the main aftershock to be one magnitude smaller than the main shock, so you would be expecting a 7.9.
”That’s a monster again in its own right that is capable of producing a tsunami and more damage.”
The Japanese quake was the result of a process called thrust faulting. A piece of the Earth’s crust broke away at the juncture of the Eurasian and Pacific plates and was thrust underneath the islands of Honshu and Hokkaido.
The US Geological Survey estimated the quake moved the Japanese coast about 2.4 metres.
”It basically pushed the sea floor up and down on opposite sides of the fault by 10 metres, causing the tsunami,” Dr McCue said. ”It is a sudden rupture that has occurred, but it has occurred because the two plates are converging at about eight centimetres a year and have been for about 100 years. That eight metres is released suddenly when the plate snaps and breaks and produces the earthquake.”
Japan’s last earthquake on this scale was in 1923, when the magnitude 7.9 Kanto quake killed more than 100,000 people in and around Tokyo and Yokohama.
The latest Japanese disaster is unrelated to the quake that devastated Christchurch last month, which was caused by a fracturing within the Pacific plate.
A seismology research fellow at the University of Melbourne, Gary Gibson, said the world averages one magnitude 8 quake a year, but the rate was inconsistent. The 1980s and 1990s had far fewer large quakes than average, for example.
”There is more variation than you would expect from a random occurrence of earthquakes, and we really don’t have a mechanism to describe why that is the case,” Dr Gibson said. ”But there is no question that the last two years have been very active and well above average.”
Dr McCue dismissed suggestions that melting glaciers due to global warming could escalate the earthquake risk.

Well, lots of astro masters here, i see. I have studied astrology for a while but compared to you guys I´ve only scraped the surface…so may I ask an astrological question that might sound stupid?
Marian T blames the moon and Pluto for much of what is happening, and in a way I get that–pluto being the great destructor ( or transformer) assocaited with volcanic eruptions, explosiones, and all things undercover. But my question is in regard to the nuclear plants. Would that be Uranus? I remember reading that this was the planet of nuclear energy( plutonium aside).
And i totally understand and believe the supermoon theory.
I also came across something I had never heard of before, SEDNA. Can someone please elaborate on this.

hi Claudia – I’d personally like to hear uberqueen answer the Uranus question re nukes but, regards the current events here, my feeling is that all the planets are at work on the Solar system’s field in this Japan nuclear scenario, on how it is unfolding, and Uranus has the Electro function that works in tandem with the gravitational, traditionally associated more with Pluto and Saturn – the nuke plants generate electricity/Uranus, so, he could also be a catalystic element behind the explosions

Interesting – suggests the possibility of a malfunction around the 7 March, which they knew would take a few days to repair. When the quake hit, they were on caught off guard. Just a scenario.
With TEPCO as the key driver of events … this does not bode well. But there could be hope in the form of technical expertise from outside.

Looks like the 3rd biggest economy in the world just tipped over the edge. Nikkei down 7% yesterday, crashing down 13% today. Even the ASX in Australia is down 3%.
This excites me. We’ll all be skint because the value of everything will be wiped off! Thank god for that. We all learn the value then of non attachment. I was struck by the sole bewildered man searching through the carnage at one site looking for remnants of his family and home and the woman looking for her elderly mother and while it was sad and poignant it was an amazing illustration of what we have to let go, which is relationships to stuff. Uranus and PLuto on the Cardinal Cross will bring us, the herd in Cancer, to the charnel house where Libra will make us examine our choices.

Hi Barb – the HERD in Cancer – I refer to the CArdinal Cross as seen through the school of Alice Bailey and Esoteric or occult (hidden) astrology. She speaks of the three crosses of initiation (or rather the ascended master, DK does) – the Cardinal Cross is the final cross of initiation for humanity. The system says, that all life form has to pass through the sign of Cancer to become incarnate, its a basic law of incarnation, so she refers to it as the herd – the herd of humans, the herds of all animals. Aries would be the point of action – and we currently have Uranus now in Aries, CApricorn is the Earth and life on it PLuto now there of course… challenged by Uranus giving us challenges like no other and Saturn in Libra – hard choices.

Seems the web is just screaming out watch out for the West Coast here. Just watched a U Tube interview with a man who predicted one within four days previous and he says this full moon and the following week ripe and that 3 high water conditions are there like equinoxes and to watch for unusual animal activities which he is now convinced unlike earlier in his career are signs of geomagnetic disturbances affecting them. Whales beaching etc.

Hi Charyl. All I can think of is to check the coordinates and the timezone. When I start the chart for events like these, I choose a nearby town from the database, eg Tokyo, so I get the right timezone, JST -9. Then I key in the exact coordinates and over-ride the location:

Just checked – Oarfish are deep sea dwellers – so probably their otoliths would sense things closer to the ocean floor. Oddly, one type of otoliths is called sagitta – which is where physicist Paul La Violette reckoned the 2004 tsunami originated as a galalctic wave which interacted with earth. His excellent book Earth Under Fire is well worth a read as it charts the story of earth’s development through the zodiac. You can find him interviewed on YouTube too.

I remain keen (as they say in NZ) to watch the Uranus/Pluto Square. This would also fit into the Clif High ‘expando-planet’ theory which predicts increasing volcanoes as plasma from the ensuing solar cycle enters the earth’s core and recharges the magnetoshpere.

CNN: …the March 11 tremors shifted the Oshika Peninsula near the epicenter by just over 17 feet and dropped it by just over 4 feet, the Geospatial Information Authority in Tsukuba, Japan, reported Saturday.
Those two land mass movements are records for Japan, according to government figures.
The global positioning system data from the Tsukuba University-based authority revealed the peninsula on the Pacific coast moved in an east-southeasterly direction toward the epicenter. The quake also moved land masses in many areas ranging from the northeastern region of Tohoku to the Kanto region including Tokyo, the authority said.

barb – the best way to understand the crows is to listen to them and observe their movements, so, can you say what those crows were doing when they were hanging around your place, and what they are doing now + is this unusual, are they regular visitors/residents?….also, if they are connected with anything at all they may simply be giving a headsup, neither good nor bad

if this is a precursor to a big quake, many will die. the Philippines doesn’t have the same “preparedness” as Japan, nor do they have the same building technology as Japan. many will suffer there if a big one hits.
the coast where the quake hits is along the edge off Philippine plate and the subduction zone is well beneath the ocean where it’s deeper (larger volume of water).
Japan was hit with smaller quakes before the big one hits, the same thing might be occurring to the Philippines now.

I might add that when one of them is upside down on a piece of plastic with all six feet with no traction one does feel a slight twinge of compassion for them as innocent mindless creatures of god. Little babies. Then their sticking a hose in to desensitize is pretty considerate too before they draw blood on that membrane on their back that blows up as it fills. Just not as ascethic as I would like.

Even if it did, the structure of the tectonic plates and fault lines around the city makes it unlikely that Tokyo would be hit by a quake anywhere near the intensity of the 9.0-magnitude one that struck March 11, said Roger Musson of the British Geological Survey
But, given the vast population – Tokyo and its surroundings are home to 39 million people – any strong temblor could be devastating.
“Even if you’ve got, let’s say, a 7.5, that would be serious,” the seismologist said.
Japan is located on the Ring of Fire, an arc of volcanos and fault lines spanning the Pacific Basin, and is regularly hit by earthquakes.
But before last week’s quake – the largest to hit the country since it started keeping records 130 years ago – few geologists considered Japan to be a strong candidate for a 9-plus earthquake, said Andrew Moore, of Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana.
There is mounting evidence, however, that Japan has been struck by several severe quakes in the last 3,500 years – most in the northern reaches of the country. Sand deposits indicate that several quakes have spawned 30-foot-high (9-meter-high) waves that slammed into the northern island of Hokkaido, he said, the most recent in the 17th century.
Similar deposits underlie the city of Sendai – the area rocked last week – with the most recent from an 869 A.D. tsunami that killed 1,000 people and washed more than 2.5 miles (three kilometers) inland.
And even weaker quakes that hit Tokyo in the past have caused significant damage.
But last week’s tremor changed the coastal landscape – and not just above sea-level. It created a trench in the sea floor 240 miles long (380 kilometers long) and 120 miles wide (190 kilometers wide) as one tectonic plate dove 30 feet (nine meters) beneath another, said Eric Fielding of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
While that relieved stress at the breaking point, it appears to have piled pressure onto adjacent segments, said Brian Atwater, a geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey.
That added strain could now trigger a strong, deadly aftershock on Tokyo’s doorstep.

First attempts to calculate Tokyo’s quake risk

As if the thousands killed, injured or displaced by the Japanese earthquake and tsunami hasn’t caused the country enough distress, there are now reports that the megaquake may have increased the chance of a major earthquake hitting Tokyo. But seismologists are emphasising that any such claims are extremely tentative.
Ross Stein of the US Geological Survey in Menlo Park, California, and his colleagues are running the numbers to try and work out how the magnitude-9 quake has affected seismicity in the region. Stein told me:
Nothing we can do now is firm. We are performing very simple and naive calculations.
The threat was set out by the Associated Press:
Last week’s tremor… relieved stress at the breaking point [but] appears to have piled pressure onto adjacent segments… That added strain could now trigger a strong, deadly aftershock on Tokyo’s doorstep.
ABC News, Fox News and Metro News all picked up the story.
The basic idea is straightforward. As the plates of Earth’s surface move slowly past each other, they sometimes get stuck and stress builds up. Eventually a critical threshold is reached and the plates lurch forwards, causing an earthquake. The movement of one plate can then change the stresses operating on its neighbours, leaving some of those neighbouring regions at greater risk of experiencing a large earthquake.
But as Richard Luckett, a seismologist at the British Geological Survey in Edinburgh, explains, the problem is working out what has happened to the different plates, and to the many faults that could, in theory, produce a quake. Luckett says the quake will have changed all the faults under Japan:
There’s no reason why it should be one fault rather than any other. We also don’t know which ones were close enough to rupturing for this to be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.
It’s particularly difficult to work out what will happen in Tokyo, as it sits near the boundary of three separate tectonic plates (see diagram).
Stein, working with Shinji Toda of Kyoto University in Japan, is trying to resolve this problem using stress transfer calculations. His method treats the Earth’s surface as a stiff block of rubber, which he then breaks up to represent the different plates:
You cut into it with a carving knife and displace the two sides, then glue them back together with crazy glue. The rubber ends up distorted, and there are stresses that are greater nearer the cut.
Using this type of model, he has calculated how the stresses have changed since the big quake, to identify which faults have been pushed closer to failure and which further away. Some early results are available on his website, but he has repeatedly revised them over the last few days and expects to continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
The results suggest that the risk of a big quake in Tokyo is now higher than it was before the quake, but there is no way to put a figure on the overall increase in risk.
According to the calculations, the most affected fault is the Sagami Trough, an undersea trench south of Tokyo at the junction of the three plates. Stress on a region of this fault that is thought to have caused the 1923 Great Kant? earthquake appears to have eased. But another area, further out to sea and linked to the 1703 Genroku earthquake, is apparently closer to rupturing. The neighbouring Tokai fault, long treated as a risk, may also be slightly more stressed.
But these predictions should be taken with a big pinch of salt. Stein himself calls the calculations “ridiculously naive” and “frail”, emphasising the enormous uncertainties:
Earth’s rubberiness varies from place to place. The amount of slip from the quake is poorly known. Which faults are active is also only crudely known.
For now, detailed earthquake predictions are still out of reach. The aftershocks are rumbling on, but we can only make educated guesses about where they will strike next.

Do we know where the epicentre is? I’ve been to Burma twice back in the 80s – it was magical. I went to look at where my great grandmother came from. I spent time in Pagan which suffered a major quake in 1972?? Pagan is a sacred site by the Irawaddy which used to have about 13,000 temples on it. When I went there there were 2000 standing, the rest were just ruins. It was stunning.

Hi Charyl – I think Greg was refering to the 52,000 cycle that is allied with the precession of the equinoxes – I have heard him talk of such, in relation to the Mayan Calendar – the basis. more commonly understood, is that the cycle repeats every 26,000 years, and that within this time we have the opportunity to raise our game, to realise our potential for evolution that is intrinsic to it – the question of the interviewer, whether the ‘green etc’ is neccessary, is both as impudent and as pertinent as you can get – the understanding of the potential for change within the cycle is that if we don’t make the leap, we will simply have to start again on another 26,000 year cycle, and go through all the re-building and re-establishment of technologies, both material and spiritual, that we have achieved formerly – we risk the same amnesia we have to former civilisations that have attemted ths leap, been through the cycle, and come acropa – so, behind this is an understanding that our ancestors have done just this, yet fallen prey to the same hubris and shortcomings that we see ourselves suffering the effects of in our time, at our own hands – the onus is on us to make it happen differently this time, so, I am sure that Greg would have answered that if we miss the opportunity, we will lose more than we can possibly imagine – given this is tied into the Mayan Calendar the further implication is that we have very little time left to make the shift – we are seeing a new consciousness emerging and events in the ME, our reactions to the EQs and the nuclear meltdown threats are giving us glimmers of hope that we can do it – world connectivity is aiding and abeting it – but, there are forces at work in the world that are resisting it, mainly human – it, the visionary impulse that is carried in our potential to evolve beyond the current miasm, has to become endemic and grounded, this is our task – the alternatives are……..

Why don’t we talk more about the 60’s generation, the pluto Uranus X generation. I’ve already said that I personally see an underground swell towards the OPEN gates, meaning it’s time. David Stone in the book “Ascension Manual” 1994(Neptune/Uranus conj time)gives reason why they have opened in an unprecendented opportunity for upward movement in mass numbers.
Also pluto/uranus is interpreted as uncontrollable natural disaster’s.

OSAKA, Japan — A shallow 6.5-magnitude earthquake hit off the northeast coast of Japan on Monday, the US Geological Survey said.
The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a 50-centimetre (18 inch) tsunami warning for the Pacific coast of Miyagi prefecture, which was devastated by the huge earthquake and tsunami that hit on March 11.

Strong geomagnetic storm slams Earth on Wednesday
The solar storm has a Kp-Index of 6, out of the 0-9 scale.
This is higher than any previous solar storms of this cycle, including the March event.

there are EQs everyday, lots in the 4.5 to 6.5 range, as well as minor ones but EQ activity in the last 10 years is equal to that in the last 100 yrs – Honshu has been very active over the last month and especially in the last week and its not only the Ring of Fire thats lighting up either – central Indian Ocean meeting point of Antarctic/African/Asian plates has shown some activity this year prior to Japan’s biggie and this will be strongly triggered by the June 15th total lunar Eclipse – recently northern Himalayan region, Central Pacific, Mexico and Carribean have been very active too

However, the Geographical Survey Institute, said now is not related to the investigation commenced immediately, as it would hit the local cities and towns more sad.

A new calculation by American and Japanese scientists has concluded that the March 11 event might have heightened the stress on faults bracketing the ruptured segment of the Japan Trench.
“There’s quite a bit of real estate on which stress has increased, by our calculations,” said U.S. Geological Survey geophysicist Ross Stein. “The possibility of getting large, late aftershocks to the north and south of the main shock is real.”

Looks like that eruption has settled down, still awaiting the big one. I just learned the other day from Marina’s post on the Persephone Myth, that Pluto came out of Mt. Etna to abduct Persephone.
Some have wondered if this event was “triggered” by HAARP. While I have no idea myself, this webpage presents evidence that it was. Takes a while to load.
